Has Drinker ever shown that he understands deep and varied characters? I only remember him glorifying paperthin stereotypes... whicch fits fabulously into that right wong Media bubble... didn't Ben Shapiro also write awful Thrillers with impersonal cardboard cutout "protagonists"?
I actually have to disagree with that, some of the best stories in history have been written specifically to explore ideas and even politics first, the basis of telling stories is often in messaging. The problem is that the anti-woke crowd are inherently uninterested with higher ideas, don't want to be challenged to think hard about anything, and are openly uncurious about the world. It's not the message, it's the idiots writing it.
all conservative critics run into this problem: they think creating art is as easy as disingenuously tearing it down, so they launch a movie/music project that starts with a bang but always ends with a self-pitying whimper as it gets torn to shreds.
Honestly I don't think it's anything more complicated than an Uwe Boll type situation from people who are just far more cynical. Conservatives will consume conservative media as a point of honour, but it isn't even about the viewership unless like you get these flukes like God's Not Dead. The investors who fund people like Ben Shapiro aren't in the habit of losing money. tax incentives, loopholes and unnamed accounts are probably the more involved than any reptilian ideological beliefs they hold
Almost like they've only ever meant 'stop pushing politics I dont like'. Almost like they get mad at celebrities and sports people speaking up about politics they dont like saying "Shut up about politics and stick to your job" only to fawn over any D-list celebrity or rare sports person who actually supports their politics. Almost like all of these people are nothing but inherently dishonest hypocrites with no shame at all in their efforts to push their propaganda and beliefs.

I'm honestly disappointed that conservatives can't seem to make good art anymore. People like Tom Clancy used to write some kickass thrillers, now all we've got is unimaginative drivel that repeats some variation of "I HATE THE WOKE" over and over again.

@ginidontthinkso4282 OK so the book I read was "Redemption" which was the start of his Ryan Drake series. I will try to remember as much of the plot as I humanly can but I will warn you most of my recollection of the book was complaining about how cliche it was and predclicting everything that came next so well I genuinely started to convince myself I was prophetic. So our book follows the authors James Bond x Jack Reacher love child Ryan Drake. An ex British army man who joins the CIA, because of crouse he does, as a (and I'm not making this up) Shepherd. He and his team find people. Especially those who don't want to be found! Because you know that's what shepherds do. They find lost sheep that don't want to be found. Now him amd his team get sent on a mission. Go get this woman have her back on US soil within 48 hours "but this turns out to be more dangerous than anything Ryan and his team have faced before" I'm sure this was an actual blurb on the book. So him and his team set off to go save the woman who's name starts with either an M or am N if I remember correctly. Cliche stuff happens along the way and they have to fight to get the girl then they get her. And it turns out she's also a government agent but not for the USA if u remember right. Then they naturally start to develop feelings for each other and along the way he learns that the us government was lying to him or some shit which males him run away with the girl instead and it seemed like the rest of the series was going to be focused on both governments tracking them down. It wasn't a bad book in terms of writing or spelling or anything like that it was just too cliche and pulpy for me to ever take it seriously. Its the sort of book I'd expect to find my grandfather reading in between watching black and white westerns.
People tend to forget there has always been an active "conservative" side to the movie industry. They're most of the action films you can find in the dollar bin that were produced by chinese/southeast asian companies.
I think one of the Drinker's videos that crossed over and got widely ridiculed by the community was his "review" of The Boys season 4, where he just read out a handful of negative comments from Rotten Tomatoes and admitted he hadn't watched it. There is nothing wrong with creating dumb pulpy spy stories, the problem is the drinker's "holier than thou" attitude of "you libtards don't know jack shit about storytelling! It'd be one thing if he was critic whilst being fair and easygoing towards artists whilst making his own work. Writing or working on stories is no easy task even if you can spot mistakes in others' work. Unfortunately, as you said, he has this high and mighty attitude. If he's gonna treat other creators as if they are nefarious or incompetent rather than human beings, then he deserves to have a taste of his own medicine should he make the same mistakes. Also, at least The Room and those Neil Green movies are funny as hell. CD is just frustrating. Also, they at least fought uphill battles just to be made while CD can publish as he pleases.

Critical Drinker having a Mary Sue character in his own movie reeks of exactly the same sentiment that led to that one Daily Wire western having a Mary Sue character. The arrogance of these guys to criticize it in modern films while glorifying it in older films they've already decided they like using the same old "But they did it RIGHT" without being able to actually articulate what exactly "right" means or doesn't mean in this scenario. In their arrogance, Drinker and Daily Wire think they're doing it "right"
My suspicion is that if they can characterize a role as "leftist" then any competency is a Mary Sue If they can call it conservative then the character is a badass instead and the fact that John McClane threw a car at a helicopter in Die Hard: Rossya means he's a smart businessman
I think a lot of his analysis is actually pretty good. I don't agree with his politics, but anyone trying to insert politics into a story tends to ruin the story. Either you already agree, in which case it's a bit dull, or you don't, and it's infuriating. A lot of fiction is produced with the mindset of "when they see this they'll know I'm right!", and that invariably detracts from the enjoyment of the work for the 99.9% of people who don't reevaluate their world view. The only exceptions I can think of didn't try to directly make me think a certain way, just view the subject differently (starship troopers the book is famous for this. Nobody agrees with it but it's very informative as to why you disagree). It's like how that Gina Carano Western movie got The Daily Wire criticized for featuring a "strong female character" when the bulk of the movie is actually her character messing things up until her husband arrives to save the day.
Critics transitioning into creation regularly run head first into the issue that the ability to discuss art and create it are often very distinct skills. Drinker can be a decent critic and identify the reason why certain scenes or movies flop, when he is sincere. But he has pivoted to pandering to a crowd that wants to be told that Hollywood is run by a woke-cabal that is ruining movies by pushing "tHE mEssAge!" and he pivoted so hard that it is undermining his critical skills, and this combined with the issues good-faith critics face means that he was pretty much set up for failure from the onset.
And it's not like more sincere critics haven't also failed at being creators. Crucially I think the problem is that people think that Critic means criticism rather than CRITIQUE. One is saying bad things about a thing, the other is about analyzing the thing.

@@ggunnelspct Agree about books. And Hollywood. A Lakota adoptee has been gently educating me for 30 years. Yes... you are 100% right. Female warriors, hunters & shamen did happen and in some cultures it was commonplace, but the Drinker's points were not about that generally. It was the notion about abandoning the tribe to go on a quest, which the elders would, under most circumstances, not have permitted. The inference (in this story) that defying gender norms and assigned roles weren't the done thing, her bucking against them (and getting people killed) would not be indulged. That's on the writers. In a film being praised for its accuracy, the writers found it easier to resort to that trope rather than portray Comanche society more accurately and then find a reason for her to be the rebel outlier. You may not like the Drinker's style or delivery, but I'd encourage you to watch the review again. He often cites "Predator" as his all-time favourite movie, and you get a sense why when he compares it to "Prey". Believe or not, his review would have sent more of his viewers to see "Prey" rather than discourage them from doing so. ua-cam.com/video/UPbhK3TF8VM/v-deo.html
I remember the Critical Drinker reviewing Rhe Expanse commenting on "how refreshing it was to see a show without politics". I've never seen someone miss the point of a show that much. The Authors and later producers talk explicitly about how they included diversity in the story, and the second book is written as a political drama.
and to think he has the arrogance to make video likes "The Drinker Fixes Alien Romulus". He can criticize all he wants but nothing I've seen about him as a writer tells me he's good at writing.
@johnglue1744 one is miles above and beyond the other. Spoiler alert - Alien Romulus is better than anything CD has touched thus far. Cool, you don't like it. That's great but the overall consensus of critics and audiences alike enjoyed it.
There's nothing in this film that counters any of the actual filmmaking issues he complains about. It takes a swim in them, tbh. I suppose his rule that a movie can't have anywhere near as many women as men in it is upheld. Didn't seem to change the quality much, to no one's surprise.
I stopped following the Drinker and Nerdrotic when they became too self-indulgent, whiny and overly opinionated based more on their personal stances of the subject matter than the actual nuanced and professional takes that they initially had. They DID start sounding "anti-woke" and made it more clearer as time progressed that they, like the material they criticized, became one in the same.
Which is a shame because Nerdrotic introduced me to The Expanse. It got really frustrating because I started watching him to discover hidden gems that have been drowned out by mainstream mediocre content. But everything he puts out is just negative stuff about how he hates it. Okay fair enough, so tell me what stuff have you watched recently that you liked so we can encourage more people to like good stuff. It got worse when these 'critics' started panel shows which were nothing but a bunch of people making fun of the show with zero critique. That's when I realised they were just in it for the money and had no passion for the art of cinema.
Four videos on Critical Drinker? Wow, you must be OBSESSED and JEALOUS of his success! Anyways, I'm going to watch the Drinker talk about Rachel Ziegler for the 1804726th time in a row.

I used to take TCD seriously until I watched a film that he reviewed. He completely missed the point of Blade Runner 2049. I soon came to realise he was just another Anti Woke Warrior
Honestly you start to see why most these conservative commentators all failed to breakout in Hollywood. Not good writer's, actors, or Directors... For a bunch of people who gained success over "Dunkin on Hollywood and wokeness" sure as hell can't make a film.
The section about Estonian geography reminded me of when the A-Team movie with Liam Neeson showed a picture of my home city Cologne (including one of the most prominent landmarks in all of Europe, like only second to the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben's tower) and captioned it with "Frankfurt, Germany" Boy was I mad! >:V
Drinker thinking he can make a good movie reminds me of pro gamers thinking they can make/fix a game. Just because you play the game a lot doesn't mean you know how to make one. Same thing applies to this
its funny how all the conservatives who make "art", either put out a generic yet bad action movie/book or a "triggering comedy". Yet they complain how hollywood is out of ideas (but also complain if they do have new ideas)
I remember the drinker advertising his new book and it sounded like the most generic Tom Clancy spy thriller political espionage copycat. I was not impressed then, and I'm not impressed with this.
Years ago I was talking about the Critic and a friend noted that "he only likes old films, but it's not that he dislikes new ones. He just doesn't like change". I'm glad to find a much deeper wording of this very sentiment here.
@multiverserift Probably, but Alien was made in a cultural context where a strong female protagonist was not "a threat". She was also sexy in the film. One of the major complaint of the anti wokers is that women aren't hot anymore, or that they are making them intentionally unattractive. Ripley is still seen through a very male gaze.
@@Ennio444 is this how Ripley is perceived? Until today, I always thought the view of her, even in her undressing scene, is refreshingly un-horny. She is naked and vulnerable, not eye candy. Always thought that was the whole deal, and I assumed that's what everyone thought.
Funny how he dedicates his life to criticize Hollywood for making "forgettable, woke/preaching first, no story crap", and yet when he gets the chance to show the world his critiques are not shallow, that he knows what he's talking about, that he can teach the big, "political fueled, agenda pushing bigots of Hollywood" how to do art, he can't seem to even live up to his own standard, as you say, I'm pretty sure you could take voice clips from his own channel, organize them on top of clips of his movie and you'd get a full "critique" suggesting the movie is just another "woke slop" piece of shit.

That sounds too woke to be a critique so I can ignore for a reason other than I'm mad you hurt my feelings.
It's almost like if you focus on ideology first, whether that be woke or anti-woke, you don't actually make anything other than propaganda.

@plixypl0x trouble is, they're not good at the technical part either. I think they view art more as a product than as art, really.

Give us ghe hightlights of his stuff

@ : While it’s not what I did in graduate school, I’ve taken some courses on the anthropology of these populations (let’s call them the indigenous population of the American plains) and female warriors weren’t unheard of. It’s true that gender roles were quite well defined, but that definition didn’t exclude them from being parts of warfare. I would note that the female protagonist and her relationship with the tribe she’s in demonstrates those gender roles - and she finds a way to buck them. The Critical Drinker argued that this would never happen. The reality is the reverse - women were often part of warfare and raiding (much of this related to frankly manpower shortages if nothing else). Check out the biography of the female warrior Lozen. Stop learning your history from Hollywood and pick up a damn book.
He keeps preaching about “fixing” films when he can barely make a somewhat ok film himself.
Well fixing doesn't mean making the movies good, it means turning them satisfactorily intolerant as by his standards... ("dewokeing")
They'd have failed in a Kentucky community College ..
All makes sense now, don’t it. They fail in the industry because they suck, and then they just become bitter and angry all the time.
Hm, now that you mention it, didn't Ben Shapiro's attempted career as a Hollywood screenwriter crash and burn into a massive lake of excrement?
Glad you mentioned B1rdman and Josè in this video.
Also, I wish you happy holidays as well. 🎄
and you! 🎅
The section about Estonian geography reminded me of when the A-Team movie with Liam Neeson showed a picture of my home city Cologne (including one of the most prominent landmarks in all of Europe, like only second to the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben's tower) and captioned it with "Frankfurt, Germany"
Boy was I mad! >:V
man, now I’m thinking about Mangal Doner
@@PillarofGarbage All hail Prince Poldi I. 👑
Drinker thinking he can make a good movie reminds me of pro gamers thinking they can make/fix a game. Just because you play the game a lot doesn't mean you know how to make one. Same thing applies to this
Eh, I wouldn't make that comparison.
Modding communities exist because of the diehard players, and their contributions keep their games fun and alive.
Well dear viewer, looks like the drinker is getting a taste of his own medicine. Go away now.
It's funny when critic say "fine, I'll do it myself better" and flunks it just like rest of us would, if not worse.
I wonder why he fakes being Scottish
He probably wanted to work for Vince McMahon
@@Leahcimmichaelmaybe he's compensation for the fact that there's no Angus McCloud from where he's from
Because the UK is considered highly conservative compared to the USA?
its funny how all the conservatives who make "art", either put out a generic yet bad action movie/book or a "triggering comedy". Yet they complain how hollywood is out of ideas (but also complain if they do have new ideas)
Conservative values naturally inhibit creativity lol
I remember the drinker advertising his new book and it sounded like the most generic Tom Clancy spy thriller political espionage copycat. I was not impressed then, and I'm not impressed with this.
Years ago I was talking about the Critic and a friend noted that "he only likes old films, but it's not that he dislikes new ones. He just doesn't like change".
I'm glad to find a much deeper wording of this very sentiment here.
Even this is romanticizing the past. If Alien and Aliens would come out today, the anti-woke crowd would lose their nuts because Ripley
Russel brand once asked critical what his top 5 all time movies were. I don't know who could take him serious as a critic after that.
Why, what was the answer?
So, what are your top 5... I'll wait.
@@ianoz1 hush child, adults are talking
@ianoz1 you a bot girlie?
@@connorletkeman5002 To quote Uhura, "Sorry, neither." How about you?
So glad to see people turning on and calling out The Critical Stinker. I hope he looses more than he ever had.
How am I not surprised his first movie is a Call of Duty subplot?
Funny how he dedicates his life to criticize Hollywood for making "forgettable, woke/preaching first, no story crap", and yet when he gets the chance to show the world his critiques are not shallow, that he knows what he's talking about, that he can teach the big, "political fueled, agenda pushing bigots of Hollywood" how to do art, he can't seem to even live up to his own standard, as you say, I'm pretty sure you could take voice clips from his own channel, organize them on top of clips of his movie and you'd get a full "critique" suggesting the movie is just another "woke slop" piece of shit.
We have to give Drinker some credit, Rogue Elements is a great cure for Insomnia.
Hey, I recognize you from twitter and reddit!!!!!
