- This past week. F.L.Y. soft opened to the public with it's new land Rookburgh at Phantasiland in Bruhl Germany. F.L.Y. is the world's first Launched Flying Coaster. This coaster is so unique for many different reasons, so today I am going be telling you guys how F.L.Y. Changed the Industry.

FLY started construction 6 months after Taron opened, it’s literally impossible designing a whole coaster in that time, so FLY definitely wasn’t based on Taron‘s success.
I have ridden fly yesterday and today. And it's so amazing. The coaster itself is great. But the overall experience with the hotel is out of this world. I would say the best themed area in the world.
Fly really lives off the theming. The ride itself is really good, but as a standalone thrillride the Illusion of you really flying would not work as well in my opinion
Its just like Taron and Black Mamba, you cant split a Phantasialand from its themed area because its 1 rounded experience as a whole
I live in Germany now for 6 years I grew up going to bush gardens Williamsburg. So I am super excited to make the trip to go phantasialand and try out this coster
Phantasialand is definitely a bucket-list park for me. Even calling it that doesn't do it justice; it is within the next five years, and maybe even next year depending on whether I can find the time.
I rode F.L.Y and holy crap, this ride left me speechless.
The new Vekomas are simply amazing. I experienced the STC earlier this year and was amazed by how Open, fun and enjoyable it was. Totally different from the b&m model. And now that I also rode FLY I am absolutely in Love with the new Models. While FLY's layout is really intense and fast paced onride, it does depend a lot on the theming. Rookburgh and FLY create the best theme Park attraction experience ever for me and so I Hope that If parks Invest into the new flying coaster they should definitely theme it very well
Just think about Disney building a Iron man themed version of this

@@kleator Nah, we'll actually more than likely get an Alita to BECAUSE OF the purchase. Disney LOVES JC. Pandora is by far one of the most popular lands in Walt Disney World and started the new renassciance of Animal Kingdom. They've written blank checks for the next 4 Avatar's for JC, and they always pay attention to strong female characters. I'm almost willing to say there's no way we don't get an Alita sequel now that it's in Disney's hands. When it was Fox, they're known for canceling great series...but Disney? Very likely to green light the sequel...and if it's successful I wouldn't be shocked for them to officially claim her as a princess.
Honestly wouldn’t mind one of these replacing volcano at kings dominion as long as they theme it

It would be an S&S version. Still the same ride just a different group.
Would need be more agressive then FLY to be a worthy replacement of volcano though. But I like your thinking

The term “1 Hit wonder” cannot apply to F.L.Y. Because it is one of many of Vekomas hits.
I was lucky to ride the coaster 6 days after opening (4 times 😊). It's not the most thrilling coaster but it's a really unique experience and I can totally imagine Disney using this type cause it's possible to ride for older people and younger. There were actually seniors in front of me in the queue and they had their time of their life 😁
i rode it 2 days ago.. it was an experience i wont forget quickly. hands forward and you really feel like flying.. got really sick afterwards unfortunately
I’d love to see Universal get one of theses. Idk what the theme would be, but I think one of these flying coasters would be great for their studios park or the new park they are making.

Hopefully we can get a launched flying coaster over in the US. Maybe Disney could do one since Fly doesn’t looks that intense and Disney loves Vekoma. Plus the theming would be insane.

That's right, it doesn't "look" intense
The interaction with the theming is what makes this ride so unique. If any park did this with just about any steel coaster the experience would be greatly enhanced.
Dont underestimate it. Backrow FLY was hella intense
Often heard it does have much airtime, wich I agree on. But I cant compare as I only rode FLY and none other.

I actually like Vekoma’s Batwing at SFA more than the B&M flying coasters. The elements are more fun. Hope someday to ride F.L.Y.
Very good and objective assessment. I absolutely agree with your opinion. FLY is a game changer. It's unbelievable what kind of development Vekoma has gone through. I'm looking forward to the years to come.

Awesome video! F.L.Y definitely looks like a great coaster and an awesome ride for being the first of its kind. I’d love to see Universal take a crack at doing one of these and if Disney were willing I’d also love to see them build a Vekoma Flier as you mentioned.
There was NO set opening date, where did you get that information from?
Arrow Copycat really annoys me a bit. Wasn't vekoma contracted by Arrow to build these in Europe? Doesn't seem like copycat then.
Anyhows: great video. Very informative. FLY is amazing and extremely reridable, which says a lot about a flyer.
Also: I don't think this will sell sooo mucht (hope I'm wrong though). The theming does A LOT. Without it, I doubt Fly would be as good as it is.

I rode Stealth. The coaster was pretty neat, but the park itself was poorly maintained. We watched one coaster breakdown while we waited in line and another broke down while we were riding it.
Few days ago I knew Parque Warner Madrid is about starting to build a roller coaster like this themed in Superman!! Can’t wait!!

Since I am European, I have been fortunate enough to have ridden FLY and HÜK by the end of 2020
I rode HüK, I loved it! It was my #1 for a little while before I rode Expedition Geforce.
HüK is smooth, forceful, it has great pacing and some good airtime. Overall good element choice and the ride just flows perfectly.
I can't wait to see Vekoma build amazing new coasters and becoming quite possibly one of the greatest manufacturers.

You're right. Rookburgh had top of the notch theaming. It had only one big problem.. The restrains. They had these vecoma vests. So tge priblem is, when youre 15 and your weight is only 50kg than it would be ok. But i've 90 and then its not a security problem but a comfortable. Everyone knows if the operator push down the bars 1 point to hard... So they do it by my ride. But if the seats rotate to flying position, your weight will be pushed into the vests so you slip little in the seat. But that enough that you were "loose" in the seats, and the only fixed point is the special lower legs secure. That would be ok when its dirct under the knee (so its like kneeing) but its deeper short above the feet. So you have the most weight sitting down there during flight. And that makes it uncomfortable. Not extreme but so much that you say, "yeah its not bad but also not superfantastic!"
And yes i rode both, flying dutchman and the b&m. And both hadnt these problems (seats)
I went there on my birthday (9-27) and Phantasialand was free on my birthday!
Looking at their track design, I'd say they are changing from an Arrow copycat to a B&M copycat. 😂
I'm joking mostly. I'm really happy to see Vekoma rehabilitating their reputation, and their new rides look great.

I love this video, but F.L.Y. opened just a little over a week ago. Let's not get ahead of things by saying it changed the industry as a coaster just yet. It is a proto-type and technical dificutlies may happen still, but Vekoma has designed a hell of a rollercoaster, and i can't wait to get on it. The theming looks phenomonal, it's original, emersive and very, very well done by the looks of the videos of it. i hope Disney is paying attention for Disneyland Paris!
I've been in Phantasialand's Klugheim a few times, and Rookburgh seems to knock Klugheim out of the park!
Nice video! But i noticed something in your audio, you have a big 60/120 Hz hum in your recording. This is from the power lines, because the electricity has 60 Hz frequency in the US. Due to some electrical effects (most likely a "compensating current" due to potential difference between two electrical devices), or a ground loop, this is amplified so much so that it becomes audible. What you can try: Connect everything to a power strip on the same power outlet. If that doesn't help, see if something is connected to a TV signal, and if the noise disappears if you disconnect the TV signal cable. Or try googling for "60 Hz hum" or "mains hum".
Oh, and if you further want to improve your voice-over recording, get a pop-filter to put in front of your mic. This will prevent the P-sounds etc. to "pop" like they do in "process" at 7:04 ;)
I've been on fly and I don't think fly would be anywhere as good as it is without the theming.
Yes it's a great smooth and fun experience but it lives from the fact that you fly over the great themed area of rookburgh. I don't see vekoma building more of these, except for Disney or Universal.
Its their first version of the launched flying coaster so I guess it still has a lot of space for improvements!! I hope so at least 😂 I think vekoma is really trying hard to improve from their bone breaking old models and I wish them luck. I’m going to Phantasialand next Saturday to test fly out myself!
@@varjo. I think they've built the perfect flying coaster. These models aren't really made to be fast intense rides. But vekoma builds some crazy intense but smooth rides now as well, so they pretty much do everything.
Galactica at Alton towers used to be called AIR when it was first built.

I think and hope that Disney might look at vekomas new models for new rides. As were seeing kow they are willing to go into a thrill ride zone now with tron and gaurdians of the galaxy. I want to ee them do something incredible with a launched flying coaster. Also qt this point o consider energylandia to go over the top with theming. On there new stuff at least. Like hyperion zadra abyssus
I was on it today. Better than Taron, i must say. The theming is soo good i think it easly beats Baron 1898 and Taron combined. And that dubble launch, what a gem
I had a discussion about which was better with a friend and we came to the following conclusion: taron needs to warm up. In the morning on a cold track it's pretty slow, but in the evening, taron rams through that track like a madman.
Fly is much more slow-paced that the experience is mostly the same throughout the day.
So which one is better well:
Taron cold track < fly < taron warmed up
Is what we agreed on.

You have to leave everything in a locker and go through a metal detector. You don't want phones and camera's rain down on visitors below

There were 2 flying coasters made before Vekomas model. Skytrack at Granada studios (made by skytrack attractions) and Komet at encounter zone (made by select attractions)
All that Vekoma new coasters look amazing, but they seem to be reduced in scale. I think the power and size of a B&M fly coaster still beats Vekoma. In the case of F.L.Y. , the theming is more than the 50% of the success.
