Love my 1997 all time all wheel drive Hiace. Came with the lace headrest covers. Wife hates them but I find them so uniquely Japanese. I call her “HiLace”!
Those noisy bugs are called cicadas, we have them in Guyana. We call them 6 o'clock bee because they start to make noise at exactly 6 PM daily. Maybe it's a different species to Japan because ours only comes out at 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
You know I always wonder why we hear that type of noise in Japan. Thanks, that does make sense now, but man those bugs are really noisy. lol
Hearing the cicadas in a video is so surreal, it's like an anime in real life, you know what I mean, if you watch anime, almost every single one has cicada sound effects somewhere
Derek, the sunroof thing is a safety feature as far as I know. You just need to release the sunroof button and then press again and it should close the rest of the way.

I have absolutely no need for a mini van, but owning a 90s - 00s Japanese mini van is without a doubt one of my dreams, a delica and I would probably die of happiness
Daaang that thing is tidy. We've been importing these into New Zealand en mass since they were the current model, but once they've spent 20+ yrs on our roads they're pretty well buggered. This thing is just immaculate, tidier than many 6 month old cars I've seen. It'd almost be a shame to actually throw the family in it for a camping trip.

The rear deflector is to reduce dust and dirt kicker up from air and rain. Tailgate gets super dirty fast.
The AC control and vent panel is high because cold air falls. The heat panel with floor vents is because hot air rises.
I just had a brainstorm. I realize Toyota historically has been anti EV and trying to milk their hybrids as much as they can, but with the VW ID Buzz on the horizon, a super popular platform like the HiAce (a new all electric one) may be a way to respond more favorably (especially after the issue with the bZ4X wheels falling off and the buy back).
Sounds great, will work out well in Alberta, Canada today where people with EVs have been told not to charge their vehicles because the grid is under strain due to the extreme cold weather....but sure, EVs all the way..
