    The Mask of Zorro is one of the finest superhero films ever made. As for The Legend of Zorro, let's just pretend that didn't exist.

      I 100% agree. I didn't think of it as a superhero movie as a kid but it totally is and excells at it. My brother and I rewatched this over and over again when we were kids. Legend of what? What's that? Yeah never heard of it. Does not exist.

      @@parkerpshebnisky1051 I won't presume to question your assertion, but just to add some context I urge you to find another Zorro movie- it's from the '40s, in black & white, but perhaps you'll find it entertaining as well- "THE MARK OF ZORRO", starring an A-List star of that time, Tyrone Power- he's handsome, dashing, portrays the 'duality' of the Zorro/ De la Vega roles well, & has some 1st rate sword fighting between him & Basil Rathbone, once considered to be the best movie swordsman in Hollywood... it's a GREAT 'Saturday afternoon popcorn movie', & I'd bet you'll like it! (Oh- & it also features an 18-yr-old Linda Darnell, who, for my money, was one of the absolute screen goddesses of that era!!) Anyway, be well!!

      Me, myself & Irene was okay. But then Osmosis Jones, Shallow Hal, Stuck on you, Fever pitch, Heartbreak kid, Hall pass, D&D to, etc weren’t nearly as funny.

    I dont care what Siskel said. The Mask of Zorro is one of the best swashbuckler epics since Raiders of the Lost Ark. I know its cliche but I love when Anthony just whacks the blade out of Antonio's hand

  • @Antonio_Ortiz
    @Antonio_Ortiz 2 роки тому +7

    Gene had a lot of hot takes, but he didn't care for Antonio Banderas playing Zorro, and he felt his casting and characterization was too cliche'd and on-the-nose? Ebert was right: that was the appeal of the character.

    Although I haven't read his book about the JFK assassination (too long), I'm boggled that Vincent Bugliosi reached the conclusion that Oswald was the lone gunman, so I've read online.

    • @GarretGrayCamera
      @GarretGrayCamera 2 роки тому +3

      Yeah, it's funny how the tide has turned on that one. After JFK everyone thought it was a conspiracy now I believe the prevailing thought is that it was Oswald.

    • @uhdudewhy7980
      @uhdudewhy7980 2 роки тому

      @@GarretGrayCamera I wouldn't say it's the prevailing thought. I'm sure most with any common sense are convinced it was a conspiracy. Bugliosi called his JFK book his "magnum opus". I've heard VB was very full of himself, maybe narcissistic.

    • @joelglanton6531
      @joelglanton6531 2 роки тому

      VB is a propagandist. Modern researchers have all reached a consensus regarding the stink of the intelligence agencies being all over the Tate-LaBianca murders as well as Polanski and Manson themselves, which Bugliosi fails to give even the slightest credence to. He's almost solely responsible for the popular notion that Manson was just some crazed hippie who could somehow influence several young and otherwise free-thinking people into committing murder.

    Theres Something About Mary was and is one of the funniest movies ever made.
    "You had your window, Ted."
    "Stalker huh?"
    "Yep, big time."
    "This wouldve never happened to Woogie."

    Siskel looks a bit ill in this episode. I wonder if he was already suffering from the cancer that would ultimately take him. I’m not sure he ever went public with his diagnosis.

      This was after his surgery; he lost a lot of energy and motor functions for the remainder of 1998, sadly.

    I wonder what they've thought of Hopkins playing Odin in the MCU?

    • @WheresPoochie
      @WheresPoochie 8 місяців тому

      Roger Ebert didn’t like Thor at all (1.5/4) but he didn’t have any remarks at all for Hopkins.

    The guys liking There's Something About Mary shows that they CAN like a stupid raunchy comedy.
    I still don't know how they disliked similar (IMO) hilarious movies like Dumb and Dumber

    • @LumpyAdams
      @LumpyAdams 2 роки тому +3

      Siskel loved Dumb and Dumber. Roger was being snooty about it and couldn't bring himself to give a thumbs up because he "felt above it."

      @@LumpyAdams to Ebert’s credit, though he didn’t like D&D as a whole, he did find the parakeet scene hilarious. Not only did he start of his print review mentioning that scene, but he also he gives out a little giggle talking about it during his At the Movies review of Kingpin.

    Could Lolita be remade today? Seriously, I’m guessing the “Netflix and chill” generation would be too offended and appalled by such challenging materiel the financing would never happen. God forbid an audience be made uncomfortable
