Errata: curse you, BG3 for making me lazy about meeting minimum ability score requirements for multiclassing! 😬. Right, we need a 13 Dex or Str to multiclass fighter later. We can drop Cha to 13 to get there and it doesn’t really affect the build too much. So it’d be 15 Wis (+2, +1), 14 Con, 13 Dex, 13 Cha to start.
The BG3 curse is real 😂
Take a drink
For what it's worth it still works perfectly for me, my DM doesn't use multiclass requirements >:D
Ran into that issue recently in a game. BG3 is too nice to us, lol.
It happens to the best of us.
"If you love chaos but you also love control"
You're making Shadow the Hedgehog, got it.
Sounds like my horoscope for today
Oh good old edgy the hedgie. Now we need a class that gives you pump action machine guns.
@@megan_alnicoEldrich Blast = Chaos Spear?
Also Fiend/GOO Warlock seems fitting thematically with his backstory.
"Chaos Control!"
Or Maxwell Smart.
"Today we're building a cleric. So we start with Figh... Sorcerer lvls. And we do custom lineage". You got us in the first part, Colby. Good to see, that things aren't completely off the rail tho
Oh no. I, Colbert, have created a monster.
Yup, monster nr 152, keep em comin' Colby!
Oh! so that's what Colby is short for.
Oh no, you've inspired more teamwork. How will the game be balanced now
lol my name is Colton and I have been called ever C name under the sun 😂😂
I'm really sorry Colby, but You made one big mistake...
Your character doesn't meet requirements to multiclass into a Fighter, as You dumped both Strength and Dexterity.
Thanks Colgate, very cool build!
No but for real, this sounds very fun to play. This one goes into the "builds to eventually play when my group finally has time to get together" pile (the pile is 16 builds high already).
I would never confuse you with King FireHammer (Colton.) Nor would I confuse you with Treantmonk (Chris.) Your channel and name are both very distinct, Cody.
Honey wake up, new D4 dropped!
I read that to the tune of “Chrissy, Wake Up”. 😂
Order Clerics are honestly my favorite support subclass in the game. Thanks Colin for this great build!
Calculating the extra damage done by the Rogue of the party is the perfect way to highlight the potency of Order Cleric's Voice of Authority.
“Or maybe if you just wanna play an order cleric”
You see, he truly gets me.
I love the potential roleplay factor with this build! When you mentioned the Vortex Warp + Voice of Authority combo I had to make a double take because that sounds like so much fun! Thanks for the great video as always, Connor!
Literally slingshotting your allies into combat sounds like so much fun, especially because they get an attack
If someone still needs a reference to dissonant whispers+opportunity attacks, just read player's handbook page 195:
"You also don't provoke an opportunity attack when you teleport of if someone or something moves you without using your movement, action, or reaction"
Dissonant whispers makes you use your reaction to move, so you provoke opportunity attacks
it's been a year or two since I subscribed, and there are a few fav builds of mine that I like to listen to from time to time.
what i appreciate most though, is the wholesomeness and humbleness of Colby when he is greeting the audience.
it matters, and makes a difference. Thank you.
My feelings (& watching habits hehe) exactly ❤
I've been dealing with severe depression for a long time now and I'm almost embarrassed by how much this holds true. I think it's because it comes off as 100% genuine, coming from him.
Thanks Columbus for another great build video!
We all know if this was a BG3 build, it'd be by our favorite D4 host, Carlach.
I love the Order Cleric! I've been really hoping for one of these builds, Chloe!!
So glad for another banger build, Charlie! Your uploads never dissapoint!
You haven't done a team up build showcase in a while, I'd love to see another one. Maybe even a BG3 version (drink)!
I’m so glad to see you’re OK with funny name mistakes, Cobby
Always enjoy your videos, Carl.

Alternate build: (@51:51)
The first character I ever played was a human order cleric. Over the course of a few years' campaign, I brought him from level 1 to 20. He started out as a defunct doctor and ended as one who slew an avatar of a corrupted creator god, restoring order to the realm.
This subclass holds a lot of fun memories for me. Thanks for the reminder, Chuck!
I really appreciate that you're taking into account how you're helping allies numerically.
It could be fun to do %bump to ally dmg for the support spreadsheet, I know it would be work to calculate, but it may be the best approach (and it would make for cool graphs)
"Silvery Barbs is not OP... Just really, really good, and I will choose it for every character build I make" 😅
Shield is taken more often (=More OP?). What I heard most is that SB disrupts the game more, many DMs dislike loosing some of their cool tricks and, most importantly, it was added later.
I am very pro-balancing in DnD 5e'24 (both of them and more), but till then... just calling it overpowered feels a little to simple for me.
(Sorry for the essay on a possible joke comment)
The thing about Silvery Barbs is that if they bumped it to a 2nd level spell, everybody would still take it. Because it should've been a 2nd level spell. I don't know who at Wizards decided we needed _another_ 1st level Reaction spell (we honestly do. Give me a million of them, I don't care), but they definitely overcorrected when this one came up.
Edit: There's literally one 2nd level Reaction spell: Gift of Gab, from Acquisitions Incorporated.
My only regret is that I dont have the opportunity to play all of these builds. Kobe does such a good job of making optimized builds that actually look fun and thematic.
Played a forge cleric with a rune knight in a one shot recently. Would love to see what you could do to turn that combo up to 11! Thanks for the awesome video as always, Connor.
That’s one of my favorite thematic pairs
Another great character from our favourite, Cummerbach!
You have a great voice Cade!
...And can make DnD characters pretty well too I suppose ❤️
Yes we need ASMR with Chris!
I've thought up a build that's SAD, does a lot of damage, and can be quite tanky depending on your spell choices. I'd love your take on it.
DSS 1 -> Hexblade -> 1-2 -> DSS 2-5 -> Order Cleric 1 -> DSS X. Comes online at 7, and your goal is to use Grasp of Hadar to drag enemies from your allies into your Spirit Guardians. With healing word and silvery barbs, you could probably proc VoA consistently as well.
Its funny, I just watched Treantmonk's God Mage build and now I'm seeing another Sorcerer Cleric multiclass build. It's wonderful to see the different choices you make
A single dip in order cleric is awesome with wizard too
Silvery barbs is best used to effectively recast your strongest and highest level offensive spell against the most threstenijg enemy + give advantage to a character who can effectivly use it.
The only balance is, relative to other caster options, it takes up a reaction thqt could be used to shield, absorb elements or counterspell
Notably all of these reactions become more efffective as you level up, and further increase the divide between casters and martials.
When you're higher level you have more low level slots to burn. A silvery barbs to try to reapply a save or suck spell on the BBED, give advantage to elven accuracy fighter, paladin or such, a counterpsell against an even stronger spell, resistance to even more damage, stopping attacks with even more damage hitting, etc. is very strong.
Colton delivers another great build!
Charley always has the best builds!
Another great build Crowley!
These videos really get my creativity flowing. Thanks Jack.
The other consideration for mostly cleric vs mostly sorcerer levels is maxing WIS vs CHA and how this affects saving throw and skill bonuses.
As others have mentioned, more sorcerer levels gets you access to twined haste to give out three extra attacks per round if you want to take the risk…
Hobgoblin from MPMM for bonus action helps.
1 level or order domain for voice of authority. Works regardless of spell list used or positive/negative effects cast on ally.
6+ gravity wizard to move enemies and allies alike. Gravity well doesn’t differentiate between spell lists either.
Telekinetic feat at lvl 4 to round out intelligence and give an additional bonus action to move enemies or allies.
Casting bless on Allie’s can now move all of them 5 feet without opportunity attacks, and one of them can make a reaction attack. Perhaps the ranged attacking character no longer has disadvantage on attack rolls from being within 5ft of a hostile creature.
Also, you’re a wizard.
I'm playing in a game with a wild magic sorcerer and we homebrewed the wild magic surge mechanics a bit. The DC to avoid a surge starts at 1 but every time you complete a spell the DC goes up by 1 making it increasingly likely they will have a wild magic surge the more magic they use. Since we love wild magic in our group we ruled that the DC goes up even when casting cantrips, though cantrips won't trigger a surge, but that means the next time you cast a leveled spell and have to roll against the DC, it might have gone up a lot because of all the cantrips you've used. I understand that wild magic isn't for every group, but we love it and get so excited every time he fails the DC lol
Got to hand it to Colby, he's really good at taking an innocuous sub-class ability and using it and some clever character build choices to make a PC that's fun and useful to play in game! And in original ways too!
Cumberbatch, your builds are always delightful, even if they're so MAD that they're impossible. It's a delightful video. Well done.
Love the video, Conrad! Keep up the good work!
This. This is now my new favorite build. It has the vibe of Treantmonk's god mage, but you get to stick closer to my first love: clerics. AND do damage too?! Be still my heart... Thanks, Crustacean!
Thanks again Cobalt. I love support builds and really liked the battlefield commander. Looking forward to more from you.
Keep up the good work Kolbe! : D
37:50 you're docter strange in infinity war opening portals for the party to attack Thanos through lol
silvery barbs to trigger voice of authority - wow that's brilliant
Another great build Cory!
Nice video! I made a similar build once and they had a decent magical weapons so could action weapon attack. That way I could bonus action healing word!
Also the biggest help was then using the optional spell points rule so I could just cast 1st level silvery barbs and helping word way longer
I think the best case use for upcasting bestow curse to to add damage is like you said a pre-combat set up for more damage against something with a very high wisdom save (like some very powerful dragons) that giving disadvantage to wisdom saves wouldn’t be as affective, or has a weakness to necrotic damage.
Played your Battlefield Commander in a one shot and had so much fun 😁 can’t wait to try out this, Coalbee!
Loved this video Colby! I was debating whether to single class order cleric and be a githzerai for shield or to multiclass, and now after watching this video I’m definitely taking some sorcerer levels. Thanks!
Fun build, I think I will give it a try! Hope you get rid of the remnants of that cold soon Colby.
"Harvey Dent... can we trust him?"
I really enjoy the concept behind this build. It's such a really awesome idea!
Thanks for another great build video Colin 😜
Konner, you're words of affirmation keep me going during these trying times as a delivery driver! Thank you for all you do!
I recently created just for fun an Order Cleric(8)/Psi Warrior (5)/Enchantment Wizard (7). Bonus action enchantment spell, then two hits, plus psionic strike, plus Divine Strike. Or can be used for control.
How i make this work in adventurers league where SB is banned:
Spring eladrin lets you teleport allies. You can teleport them x amount of feet into the air that would be convenient. Then you can cast feather fall as a reaction on that ally. Youll still have your action to target a second ally!
I play creation bard 14, order cleric 1, DS sorcerer 1. I use performance of creation to make cover, my dancing item dances up to an enemy, then i launch the rogue over for sneak attacks from cover. If you are both riding the dancing item when combat starts you can use your teleport on the item you are riding for maximum bonus action effeciency.
Silvery Barbs doesn't let you target an ally for the advantage, it let's you choose one. You target someone who succeeds a roll but then choose who gains a benefit. Without targeting an ally you won't trigger the Order clerics ability.
This feels like it could be really cool on an NPC that shows up to help the party every once in a while, especially at high levels when martials fall behind casters. DMPC’s are always a bad idea but this one would be among the least egregious.
Interesting build, I like the idea of letting my teammates shine brighter. Thanks for another video!
Haha! Basically the character I’ve been running in our current campaign for a year now! Love to see it here!
I went Aberration Sorc, Artillerist Arty and Order Cleric. Using the same tactics mentioned in the video.
The key to forced movement option is "Did the creature being moved use a resource of some kind?" In the case of Dissonant Whispers the target uses it's reaction; hence you can make oppys on it.
Thank you, Colgate, you always know how to keep it minty fresh!
I'm currently playing a Wild Magic Sorcerer/Death Cleric that plays similar to this but focused on the Inflict Wounds spell and it's so much fun!
Recently started an order cleric build, and decided to go the evoker path so I can get those hot and spicey fireballs that trigger VoA. I'm sure it would outperform in terms of burst DPS but slightly less support than a Sorcerer version which you could go with Inspiring Leader for some OP buffing.
Fun fact on spirit guardians, it technically triggers voice of authority. It has you choose allies to be unaffected by the spell which means as part of the spell your allies are targeted.
With the sorceror focused build you could RP it as the chaos winning out over your attempts at order
I created a similar themed character, but it was a storm sorcerer that would accidentally discharge electricity in a magical form of epilepsy, and was taken into a temple and taught to control his magic with the help of some deity. Basically sorcerer 1, tempest cleric everything else.
Very similar to the build I came up with myself. However there's another fun angle to go with this concept. If you were to go Int instead of Cha as your secondary stat evocation wizard plus order cleric is also wild. You can use all the big blasts spells you want without hurting your allies but ALSO give the free attacks in the process since sculpt spell doesn't untarget you allies when you use it. Imagine dropping fire balls on the entire fight and the your barbarian finishes off one of the survivors before they have a chance to react, like Grom Hellscream in the Warlords or Draenor Cinematic.
Love a strong Cleric build! Great video!
Amazing video as always Conall.
Since you're doing my favorite combo of cleric + sorcerer, I'll chime in here to add a combo I usually do:
Make sure you grab extended spell metamagic and the Aid spell as a cleric. That way, at the end of the day right before you take your long rest, you can cast an extended aid at the highest level you can muster for a 16 hour long Aid that can grant anywhere between 5 and 40 max hp to three people. Naturally, the long rest will deduct 8 hours, which means you have 8 hours left. But that's generally enough to cover the adventuring day, anyway.
The other spell I do this with on my bard is foresight. Both are 8 hours long spells by default
I see why vortex warp is your favorite spell for this build. As soon as you said it, it became my favorite too. It sounds like such a fun move to pull off
btw I played your Battlefield Commander build in a campaign. It wasn't just intended to be a fantastic support, I can confirm, it actually *was* a fantastic support. I really enjoyed it, and my party did too.
Currently playing your hammertime build, now looking through your builds again for NPC character that i’ll be using when i start DMing!
Your players are gonna have a hard time against a league of Colby builds 🤣
I'm playing a similar build to this where I went 1 level into order cleric and am doing the rest glamour bard. I play it like he has the Dune weirding voice. He's a battle commander focused on support, control, and battlefield mobility for his party. When he heals or buffs allies, they get a free reaction attack. He can spam command on enemies. His inspiration gives temp hp and let's allies move as a reaction. My party loves him.
A fun combo with this character might be rolling with a gloomstalker/rogue/fighter archer, and to buff them with bless and holy weapon. This duo would be part of the order that designates specific targets to smite. Imagine this with the stealth bomber build...
What a fun build!
This is also one of my favorite builds of yours!! This is dope! Played a similar character, that couldn't really do this kind of damage, but was a heavy support character it was 1lvl Order Cleric/X levels Glamour Bard
As someone named Colton who regularly has people misspelling my name with the irregular spelling of Colten, thank you for spelling my name correctly (and the traditional spelling). I feel seen.
Don't forget to take Magic Missile on this character. Voice of Authority requires you target an ally w/a level 1+ spell. It says nothing about that spell being a buff or healing spell so I like the idea of using magic missile and having one of the missiles give your ally a little kick in the butt to get them moving. Plus doing this allows you to use your action to both deal a bit of damage and trigger Voice of Authority and use your reaction to Silvery Barbs to trigger Voice of Authority a second time.
I made an order cleric/ eloquence bard for my table with mostly martials and go full support, they love the reaction attacks!
I’m playing a Order cleric 5/Wild sorcerer 1 right now, really fun to play and a lot of help to bring the spot light to my friends at the table
I can't believe you finished the Law & Disorder cleric without saying "done done!" If I built this, my toll the dying bells would definitely make that sound.
I played a Clockwork9/Order1 from level 2 up and it is still my favorite support/control build of all time. Twinning a Vortex Warp the paladin and rogue across the map into flanking positions on the BBEG is fucking priceless.
Clockwork does this even better than Divine Soul, too, btw. Way more spells known for one. Being able to cancel disadvantage means if you Healing Word an ally from 0, it pops them up to awake again and allows that reaction attack, so you can cancel the prone disadvantage they'd have.
Silvery Barbs is the MVP, but, Bless is absurdly useful at any time.
Last, don't bother contorting a build to pick up Spirit Guardians. Is it the best sustained AOE spell? Yes. Is it worth it? Also yes. But... is there a better way to get it? Absolutely yes. Take the Lorehold background. If your DM balks at the idea of it giving a feat just tell him you won't take the feat. You just want the background. EZ.
I love the builds you come up with the 1980s hit film Coal Miners Daughter
Very cool build. I want to definitely play this one. I feel ashamed that I never really looked at Order Cleric.
12:10 you are wrooong! (Just appeasing the algorithm gods)
First off, great video.
Secondly, in some ways this reminds me of a Bladesinger I played in my previous campaign. It took a level of Order Cleric and it worked really well. Having the ability to allow your allies to attack is stronger than many would think. I feel that a fair amount of combat was decided by those extra attacks gained from those Healing Words and especially Silvery Barbs. Certainly helped that we had a rogue and a paladin in the party.
Thanks for the awesome video Coldton!
OMG I have never given enough attention to the 5th level bestow curse upcast and curse redesign rule. It opens some interesting possibilities for my current shillelagh ranger/cleric character. Thank you 😊
Great video Corbin!
Ok, hear me out. The Cler-bear. Peace domain cleric moon druid who teleports to intercept damage meant for allies. Magic initiate for armor of agathys and blade ward for resistance. Bear totem may work too... or something with a bug bear. Help me polish this idea because I have to make the Cler-bear! Love the channel!
Go Earth Genasi for Blade Ward with Bonus action.
Colby, how could anyone get your name wrong? It fits you perfectly. The cheesy UA-cam guy who likes to cheese D and D and is named after a type of cheese.
Bref, j'adore ton contenu. Merci d'etre là.
Thanks for the video Cabe! Love it!
🤨
I know you love Dungeon Dudes, and probably have their newest book, but I noticed that your Shadow Blade Monk build idea is dialed up to 21 with their Way of the Arcane Hand subclass. If your concentrating on a spell, it deals double the spell's level in damage on EVERY attack. With a little bit of multiclassing, and the subclass's unique lvl 11 feature, you could upcast Shadow Blade to 9th level and deal 5d8+18 damage per hit
One of the characters I really wanna play eventually is a Half-Elf Order Cleric 1 / Glamour Bard X. The idea is to play a Singer/Dancer/Bard from Fire Emblem, where their signature ability is to grant their allies more actions. I'd have to forgo heavy armor for the sake of flavor and pump Dexterity instead, which is part of why I'd go Half-Elf for the extra stats, but on the bright side a higher Initiative doesn't sound so bad. Plus this way the spell level progression isn't impeded as much. Definitely a build that's way more focused on support than damage, and it'd probably be better as an Order Cleric 1 / Divine Soul Sorcerer X, but I can't get over the flavor, it lives in my head rent-free.
At my Dungeons of Drakkenheim table I have a player who went Order Cleric 1 and has gone Aberrant Mind since. Silvery Barbs is on his psychic spell list now. It's... A lot.
The think about Bestow Curse that really takes it above other control spells (imo) is that you can damage the enemy WHILE it’s active. Polymorph? You can’t hurt them, or it drops. Wall of force? Someone has to be in there with them to do damage. Bestow curse is just … they stand there while the Paladin and barbarian whale on them.
22:10 bless lets your ally hit with reaction :)
