Hi Chad, Great work! You’ve got some beautiful locations to explore! I’ve been considering an F for less weight & more power. How does your WR250F handle roads & highways? I’ve got a WR250R with Tusk DS Sport on back & a Motoz fattie on front. After I had the wheels balanced it’s not so bad even up to 80mph, however I haven’t ridden it long distances. I am planning TAT & BDRs though, so highway will be a concern. Also are you planning on reinforcing the rear fender to handle the luggage & Rotopax? Thanks, Drew
Thank you Drew, After having to look up TAT and BDRs I feel so sheltered🙂 The WR250F does good on the highway. It will top out at about 75mph, but it gets noticeably better fuel mileage and is most comfortable to cruise in the 60-65mph range. Here is a video of me on my bike burning down the interstate ua-cam.com/video/-QRSB_inHFU/v-deo.html I have not reinforced the rear fender and at this moment I do not intend to. I’ve had the Tusk Excursion bags loaded with all sorts of supplies for moto camping like food, hygiene, clothes, top bag, sleeping bag/pad, tent, coat, etc. and the Rotopax. I have put nearly two thousand miles loaded like that. The fender is holding tough and not showing signs of stress or weakness. However, the fender does bobble some so reinforcement would be best.
@@Rally_ADVentures Nice to hear it can handle the highway just fine. Have you changed the sprockets from stock? I’m running 14/51 on mine to improve low end torque at the wheel. Is 1st gear on your F very low? With the extra power it has I’d think you could get away with slightly taller gearing to get up to 75-80 on the highway. I have the Tusk Excursion system as well, my son has the Grand Loop Coyote, which is nice. Are there any larger after market gas tanks out there from IMS or Acerbis? I know the new under-the-seat gas tank & above-the-gas tank air filter might present some engineering problems for tank fabricators. I wonder how well the Acerbis or Camel ADV rear-side tanks would do. Betcha you’re glad they didn’t have the R’s in stock when you were shopping! Thanks again Chad!
@@drmayerr I am currently running stock gearing. I do a lot of single track in somewhat steep terrain and would like it if it would "tractor" a little better so I bought a 52 tooth rear (not installed yet) to maybe get a little more "tractor" factor. I'd be curious the increase in fuel mileage with the 14 tooth front? And the power of the bike I think would handle that sprocket well also. I came across larger aftermarket fuel tanks when I was looking to get more range between gas stations. I don't recall what brand(s), but I remember a 2.8 gallon tank which is only .6 gallons over stock. That is ultimatley what led me to keep the stock tank and pack a 1 gallon Rotopax. I also pack two 1 quart bottles of fuel in my Excursion bottle bags if I intend on a little longer adventure. You nailed it on the comment about the R. The F has been worth every extra penny. @@Rally_ADVentures That 52 will sure give you some grunt to the ground! 1st gear will be very short, you might wind up starting mostly in 2nd & using 1st for very steep sections. I mainly went with the 14 front sprocket because with the 13 or smaller, people sometimes report a problem with the chain eating into the swingarm, so when I bumped up to 14 front I bumped to a 51 on the rear for some extra grunt too. But using a 14 gets the chain very close to the R’s crankcase as it comes around the sprocket so I had to buy Sandman’s case saver. I don’t know how tight that area is on the F, it might be too tight for a 14. I just bought a CRF450L yesterday, so my WR is going up for sale, but I’ll still keep my eye on the WR250F’s & your vids for sure!
