Finally some BiB 😍 if you really liked this, all 3 albums will satisfy you! This album is not actually a concept album but their lyrics, sound and tone is very much based on the same themes, mainly 80s, 90s and early 00s mixed together ranging from metal to the eurobeat. Their name and a lot of songs are based on the manga series Berserk that someone with more knowledge can introduce you to 😅 Anton Kabanen, one of the guitarists and part vocalist are their main songwriter and was so also for his previous band Battle Beast. I can recommend My Dystopia from the same album which is kind of a progressive power ballad. Like with Nightwish there is not a singel song I don't enjoy from this band, so you just can't go wrong with whatever you choose to follow up with. Oh btw their vocalist Yannis Papadopoulos have his own youtube channel where he have uploaded some insane vocal covers where Ghost Love Score is among them! It was because of this channel he got the bands attention when they was looking for a vocalist😉
Bit of a rundown on the Manga Berserk. It was created in the 80's and is a very dark medieval fantasy manga. The man character has a giant monster sword and is kind of one of the originals for giant stupid swords. It is very story based and visually impressive many franchises have been influenced by it. Especially the dark souls/soulsborne series. I will always recommend it to anyone to read I don't want to spoil anything but just be aware. It is VERY dark. If you are squeamish or easily triggered probably best not to pick it up. The creator died on May 6th 2021, the studio and his best frenemy picked it up knowing the beats he wanted hit so they can finish his story. When the world found out about his death there were tributes all over video game and many other places. They also used to do a show of his artwork once a year.
This was actually a concept album of sorts. The songs and lyrics were HEAVILY based in the Armitage/Armitage dual matrix anime movies of the 90's. In fact the quote at the start of this song and "highway to Mars" are taken directly from the two films. The film focuses around humans fearing being replaced by androids and instigating an extermination of them, the main character is Gen4 android that is almost indistinguishable from human including the ability to reproduce and give birth.
I got to know this band through their song 'Blind and Frozen'. A very catchy song, which totally showcases their singer's (Yannis Papadopoulos) voice. Absolutely worth a listen. I got to see them live last May, as they were supporting Nightwish on their US tour. Very entertaining and they sound really good live. I will probably see them a couple more times, because they will also be the supporting act for Nightwish's European tour.
I got to see them in Denver opening for Nightwish, and agreed--they were fantastic. Although I did wonder if they didn't keep ducking offstage for hits of oxygen, on account of the altitude lol
Saw them live fronting for Nightwish in San Francisco in May and felt their stint was so short and wanted more. They were pretty good. I really like their song Frozen and One Night in Tokyo. Would watch them again.
I always like to describe Beast in Black as pure cheese but the finest cheese money can buy :) a big guilty pleasure of mine. Same as Battle Beast. May I suggest Black Ninja or Master of Illusion by them.
About your comment with the "dark haired guitar player" (named Kasperi Heikkinen) - yes, he was in U.D.O. some time and referring to an interview of Anton Kabanen (Band founder, blond guitarrist, main song writer) they got known when Kasperi was on a tour with U.D.O. Thanks for the reaction. Looking forward to some more beast in black, specially recommending "blind and frozen" (from first album Berserker), "My dystopia" (Dark Connection, which unfortunately not has a music video), "Cry out for a hero" (From hell with love, second album), "Sweet true lies" (From hell with love album), "One night in tokio" (Dark connection, for some real 80s vibes) or "Crazy, mad, insane" (from first album Berserker). All except My dystopia with official videos. P.S.: Do NOT use the official video on "hardcore" (from dark connection) for your channel in america ;-) it's explicit, but the song's good and there are live versions of it (e.g. ua-cam.com/video/DDECeHY4pwQ/v-deo.html). Looking forward for the next great reaction. 🙂
Your are the only UA-camr who has commented on the ACTUAL video itself, other than it’s top tier music. The video actually sucked me in and I was fascinated with the story. Great song, great video.
Saw them for the 1st time a week and a half ago here in Oregon. Was a little skeptical going on but holy smokes were they great live!! Was an awesome night!!
Thanks for the video. I’m seeing BiB next month opening for Nightwish in Hamburg. Hadn’t found time to check them out yet, so this has been a real eye opener. Gonna give the album a listen asap.
Anton found Yannis from UA-cam. Yannis had left a comment in some Anton's (Battle Beast?) video and Anton went to listen some of his covers. They made connection in Facebook too and finally met in person in Creek when Anton was in his final Battle Beast tourn in 2015. At the time it was clear to Anton he will be leaving Battle Beast and will make someting new soon... Battle Beast fired Anton in 2015. There was too much musical difference and personal problems between the band members. It was a shock becouse Anton was a founder and the core of Battle Beast. He made a new band and Yannis came to singer. Yannis did cover of Nightwish Sahara and send it to Anton. Anton asked "who is this women singing with you? ", it was a surprise what Yannis really could do with his voice. Anton is a composer and writes the lyrics to Beast In Black. He have said that in Beast In Black there is true friendship and connection between band members. They have toured with Nightwish and Sabaton. They also did a small headline tourn in USA before tourn with Nightwish started last summer. I would recommend Blind And Frozen, Sweet True Lies, From Hell With Love, Born Again, Died By The Blade, Sweet True Lies...
I first heard of them when I saw they were opening for Nightwish in Lowell, Massachusetts last May. They put on a great show! Even after an awesome NIghtwish performance, their song "Blind and Frozen" was the one song stick in my head on the drive home! A lot of Nightwish fans skipped their show and came in late. When Beast in Black is headlining concerts these people are going to regret missing their appearance!
I really enjoy this band. Talented and self aware of the stereotypes and cliches that they lean into. The lead signer does a cover of Nightwish 'Ghost Love Score' ua-cam.com/video/nfZxu1aQzp8/v-deo.html who they have opened for this last year.
Nice Video and I think that the 80's Vibe of this Bands music also got me into BiB. "Dark Connection" has "Cyberpunk" Anime/Manga as a concept behind it. "One Night In Tokyo" is just an appreciation of the Capital of Japan and the song "Broken Survivor", "Dark New World" and "To The Last Drop Of Blood" are based on the Fantasy Manga "Berserk". "Moonlight Rendezvous" and "Highway To Mars" are based on the Cyberpunk Anime "Armitage III". Other Cyberpunk Anime that that were the Inspiration for this Album are "AD Police", "Battle Angel Alita", Cyber City Oedo 808" and "Bubblegum Crisis".
great reaction again, thanks. Anton Kabanen, who founded both Battle Beast - also worth checking out - and beast in black, is a huge scifi and anime and manga fan, especially of Kentaro Miura's Berserk. Broken survivors is one of best in black's songs that takes you deep in that world if you feel going deeper down this bands discography; See you next time!
Yes! BiB!! What a song and video! Great "quantum leap" from the first two albums. You have to see them live to really understand how good and yet still so underrated band BiB is! They were touring in Canada and the US with Nightwish this Summer and it was not the first time. So you could see that as a "sign" of their talent. Yannick is amazing, you need to listen some older heavier songs to experience his total range and talent! Best Regards from Finland!
First song I heard from them (I believe it was also their 1st single) was Blind and Frozen. I will not lie, I heard it on radio so I did not see the band, so at first I thought they had a female vocalist. Overall I love the combination of synths and metal they create. I also saw them live in the Tuska Open Air festival in Helsinki this summer and I agree with others here, they are a great live band.
They sound fantastic live, saw them last month as support band for Nightwish (unbeliavable concert by the way). The song I enjoyed the most was probably "Sweet True Lies", some 80's vibes there. Cheers from Buenos Aires.
I love Yannis's voice he has so much range and power, musically they they are straight out of the 80s power metal, mix of synths and guitars but with an up to date twist that means they stand out today, they deserve more than the odd listen, I have a couple of their albums and they are pretty diverse. Later this month I will see them live as they are supporting Nightwish. Big love to Floor are she recovers from her surgery for Breast Cancer
I had the best time being the least wasted person at a crystal method show! I had on a vintage fuschia colored velvet bedcoat. I got petted all night! And everyone had candy!
I wrote a comment earlier but it disappeared. I wanted to say how great it is for you having done the last months so many finnish bands. Nightwish and especially Wintersun and now BIB. Yet I have requested several times to do two other GREAT finnish bands. I know it's up to your choosing preferences what to play but I think you'd be missing something special. These 2 are APOCALYPTICA and AMORPHIS. Amorphis - House of Sleep ua-cam.com/video/CleR2nYASdo/v-deo.html Apocalyptica - Live or Die ua-cam.com/video/lqGTCR0a3Hw/v-deo.html Apocalyptica - Path ua-cam.com/video/m9xqO9kKqyk/v-deo.html I would truly appreciate having you react to these videos. You are my favourite reactor and therefore it would mean a lot to me. Thank you in advance!
oh yeah Yannis Papadopoulus, probably the best clean male voice out there (including every genre) dude can´t do no wrong i recomment one of his side projects "Warrior Path" he did the vocals on their self titled album
BiB great power metal and have been a great support to Nightwish on their recent tour. First came across them as a result of seeing Yannis' cover of Ghost Love Score, he really does it well as an acapella arrangement
The rabbit hole of Finnish rock bands is quite deep :) Here's a newcomer I recommend Luna Kills - "liar, liar" ua-cam.com/video/kKtgYInn9-c/v-deo.html&start_radio=1 (also One Desire, Shiraz Lane,...). And it seems I have to find your reaction to Nightwish covering Pink Floyd :D
Lol if you would worry about this video imagine their video for song called Hardcore with all it's sexual imagery. This here btw was not directly Blade Runner inspired but inspired by anime Armitage III (as it is evident from intro text) which was inspired by Blade Runner. Also if you want an even more synth based song by them as well including a synth and guitar combo solo try One Night In Tokyo.
Quite good first time reaction of the band. They have really good and catchy power metal songs. When I need some uplifting music, I listen to this or another Beast band. And this video is just great. It is good to see that music videos are not completely dead. Good comments and reviews of the song.
I saw them last october when they were supporting Nightwish on their concert here in Buenos Aires. very very funny live band... they sound really good, and the bold guy is a very good singer... those high notes! ...
Ah Beast In Black. So cool that you did this Eric! They are amazing live band and they have three amazing albums. Power metal yes, but they are still a kind of different from that genre, they have very own style. They do everything 10/10, their founder and songwriter Anton Kabanen is such a perfectonist. I bicycle a LOT and Beast In Black is great band and music to make my legs to roll so badly and want more :D Pure Finnish quality with Greek and Hungary twist :)
Great reaction/analysis. To combine 80' synth sound and (strangely happy?) melodeath one might think to check out Omnium Gatherum's "Reckoning" - from that same album "Origin" I suggest to listen "In Front of Me" a banger Infected Mushroom cover (to respect great musicians of I.M. listen the orinal first) BTW Omnium Gatherum's Rush cover "Subdivisions" has true 80's keys.
Yes, Kasperi the guitarist has been playing with UDO for years. btw here is some very early work from Kasperi, in band called Elenium, To Aim and Miss, (2 gtr solos in the 1st minute :D ) ua-cam.com/video/8L7SZKLvjjg/v-deo.html
I know exactly what you mean about metal and synth in the 80s. I was in high school back then and there was a rivalry between the guys who like metal and those who liked synth. And I was in the middle of it, I'd listen to Jean-Michel Jarre and Iron Maiden and I didn't see the issue. Probably why I really love Beast in Black, they really combine the two very well.
I first heard of their singer, Yannis, when he covered Nightwish's Ghost Love Score - and I think it got their attention as well. When I saw Nightwish in Denver this past May, BiB opened for them. They are fantastic and I loved their set. I haven't had the money to buy any new music so I haven't bought any of their albums yet. I really like them and could love them with more exposure. They are FANTASTIC in concert, with synchronized guitar playing moves while Yannis runs around like a madman dressed in full leather on that hot stage. His vocals are incredible! I'd like to see more people react to them. Thank you for your reaction.
Beast In Black have an interesting style, Berserker, Eternal Fire, Ghost in the Rain, One night in Tokyo, Born Again, Blind and Frozen are all good songs.
It's a much different tone, but their "Ghost in the Rain" hits me hard. I'd like to request that. :) I also love "Heart of Steel." Possibly unpopular opinion, I hate this music video XDD but the song is good.
Yannis has an awesome voice and was also in a prog band called Until Rain and has at least one solo song. He also has a lot of covers on his UTube channel including Nightwish's Ghost Love Score (and yes he has the vocal range).
Go watch the anime movie Armitage III. This song is a direct reflection of the movie. Also the song Highway to Mars. It mentions the space port of St. Lowel. That is from Armitage too. There are 2 Armitage movies. The first one is Armitage III. The second one is Armitage Polymatrix. Both good but do watch them in the correct order.
I need to honest. This is just not for me. I tried getting into their music and it did not capture me. I heard about them as they opened up for Nightwish, when I went to see them during this tour so I did try. Even-though they did not really move me, one this is absolutely true.....They put on a great live show. All I ask for when going to see live music is to be entertained. They did that without doubt.
I've seen them live twice. I'm not the biggest fan of their music (although it's entertaining and they are good at what they do), but they are soooooo fun live. 😃
Beast in Black is from Finland actually. Started by same guy, Anton Kabanen, who started Battle Beast, but was in the end kicked out of it. Another band worth listening to. Battle Beast. Search for "Black Ninja token Lounge" to get an excellent view of the energy of Battle Beast and the vocalist Noora. Some say Noora is the daughter of Ronnie James Dio... By the way, this song is not a typical Beast in Black song. Blind and Frozen would be more appropriate IMHO.
Finally some BiB 😍 if you really liked this, all 3 albums will satisfy you!

These guys were with Nightwish when in Minneapolis this past year, truly enjoyed them and their performance was awesome!
My wife and I should be seeing BiB in a couple of weeks' time, supporting Nightwish at Wembley. Should be quite a night!
Saw these guys support nightwish yesterday in Birmingham...off the chain good..🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

Noora ❤️ what a voice 🤟🏻🔥
The instrumentation and vocals are great. The visuals had a great concept, but came off as a little cheesey to me, and very dated to 80's Sci Fi.
