I love your kit! I am a Yank, but I love the British Ruck Sack, so I bought one because they are bomb proof. I am 63, so the extras are necessary for me. Gone are the days of sucking it up when I was a young U.S. Marine! Lol!😅 One request I have is would you be willing to do a video on setting up the kit you have and doing an over nighter? I am planning this spring to do a short backpacking trip because my diabetes has rendered my feet problematic for long trips. I always have loved getting out into nature and camping. I lived in New Zealand for 10 years and enjoyed the bush, but it kicked my butt even when I was much fitter due to the elevation gains just to find a good campsite! I want to continue day trips now that I live in Arkansas, USA and I am looking for some ideas and yes some motivation! I enjoyed your video and it is nice to find a like minded fella who loves to backpack and camp! Thanks.😊

I have used military kit professionally and for camping/wildcamping and it’s the best about very strong and durable like you said you would have to go to some lengths to break it. Good video mate
Similar to me, 66L in the winter and the 45L in summer. It's mainly the sleeping bag that tends to take up all that extra space. I do have an ultra light 35L bag which I used for 2 nights in the Peaks with Marc, got it to 10kg all in!
Friendly reminder that a shitbin (Plce rocket pouch) will hold 15x440ml cans... 😂🥃🥃🥃 Ipk sheet fits nicely into the picket where your frame insert sits, I also have a jute camo screen in there, bonus padding for you as well.

Good one. I've started using my old Berghaus Cyclops Roc again. Lightweight rucksacks like my Osprey Talon are good but sometimes they just don't feel robust enough.
I have the long and short Bergen. I have a engineers bag too. I am going to be in rough places so I need the durability. I keep the set as grab and go. But the Bergen bags are for multi day use. I use an Alice style bag for day trips and overnights.
I'm sorry your kit bag is to heavy of a lot of people but if your happy with it that's fine , like you say you know where your going and it's only a short distance your travelling. The ex army surplus trade is still good value for anyone who likes going camping.

Hey Jim/ Allan .. I have the 100 liter dpm Bergen and I too full it to the max if I,m doing an overnighter.. and as you say it,s lighter when you leave a camp the next morning . So forget ultralight . ..👎... . thanks for sharing ATB.. Sam 👍
I have one of those, but made a few changes. They work fine... An you are right about the "ultralight" stuff. People dont know until they use it... May I recommend a collapsible (silicone) blader of 2 or 3 Liters?

I like your logical reasoning conversation though this one could do with two improvements 1/2 I quite like your facials expressions when you talk, it’s just bit more entertaining and engaging so bit more close up would have done wonders 2/2 a little more settled scene like pitching up chair and making a cuppa on stove in the opening before going into intro. Still very nice 👍🏼

I have always found it interesting how people approach the three schools of "camping/outdoors activities". Bushcraft, hiking and prepping. I think there is a lot to be learned by taking ideas from each of these schools of thought when building your own kit. I can see that you take heavily from the bushcraft side of things, which in no way am I criticizing, but I still say it's a good idea in general to keep an eye on what's going on in the other schools as new ideas come to light and new kit come available.

Thanks for that. I have used the British kit in "various rolls" and although it tends to be on the heavy side, it has never failed on me.

Good choice! I like a Alice pack too if I am going a bit lighter.
I use my bergan for collecting fire wood, it gets thrown around and its bomb proof.

Yes a lot of old gear in storage is being given to other countries to use, rather than it going onto the retail market.

Yes we can always get new ideas from others. This is my basic kit, but the is plenty of other gear depending on the situation.
Summer bag: 10Kg (11Kg luxuries) Winter bag: 13-14Kg (15Kg luxuries) for one night.
I was that sort of weight, but since I got old and ill, I have to have more comfort.
