Nice, but there is a small but of misinformation here. Using the SC Filter on Pro-C2 does not "exclude the lows and highs from the compression", like the animation you have of Pro-MB compressing only the midrange that precedes it. Instead, it basically tells the compressor what part of the frequency spectrum to RESPOND to (or listen to), but the compression itself is is broadband and not band-limited.
Technically true, but it’s common for pro engineers to speak of this as though it’s the same thing… and if you listen to the results, you can understand why.
@@ericpeters0n not really sure about this but, seems to be legit. You consider the input instead of the output but the final result might be the same..
He has a few ways of doing it, one is standard clip into Diamond Lift. But my fav is pro Q cut the lows, into standard clip (2x32offline) into another pro q bring back the lows, into another Standard clip then into Pro L. Its super clean. You can also replace Pro MB with Diamond Transient to compress the mids and expand if needed. Luca is a fucking boss!
Luca is definitely a boss! I haven't got Diamond Lift yet; how do you find it? The technique of cutting the lows pre-clipping is interesting, I'll have to try that out. Thank you for sharing! 🙏
He backs off the limiter to a more appropriate level, aiming for a maximum of 3dB of gain reduction. Pushing the limiter is used solely for monitoring purposes. However, I encourage you to experiment with this and find what best suits your music.
@gughffhhghgghghgg1690 Where did the ‘clip the shit out of his master’ come from? Luca uses clippers on his master, sometimes multiple, but he’s generally not heavy-handed with them.
I'm dialling in the effect pretty heavily, then backing it off to a more reasonable amount (depending on the project). This is another trick from Luca. As initially ‘clipping the shit’ out of a sound helps you hear what’s going on. Then, you can back it off to find a more appropriate level.
Not at all. As when you combine sounds together (or sum them), new peaks are created. Additionally, those two things aren’t mutually exclusive. You can control peaks both on individual channels and on the mix bus/master.

Solid catch

Great catch! Thank you for highlighting this. I've pinned the comment for clarification! 🙏

Best production videos on UA-cam!
That's high praise; thank you very much! 😁
Really amazing mixing approach to get a pre-master. Subscribed.
Thank you! I'm glad to have you on board! 🙏
Where am I applying all these plugins? On the master bus, right? And then, once all are in there, I can add gain?
Yes, technically, it's best practice to have a mix bus that feeds the master, but either way, the plugins are processing the entire mix.
Yeah noice ✍✍ Thanks mate
🙏🙏
compressing the mids can be with de ott focusing only the mids?
I steer clear of OTT for mixing, but functionally, it does something similar, albeit more extreme.
If there's no dynamic range, then there is no impact.
Absolutely. Dynamic range and loudness operate on a sliding scale; increasing one typically decreases the other, and vice versa.
So does he use the clipper and limiter after all or is he simply monitoring with them cause using a clipper on the snare and kick seems unlikely

@BeatsbyVanity i ephasized on the clipper though,i find it hard to believe pretolesi would just clip the shit out of his master with standard clip

@@BeatsbyVanity thats what you show in the video my friend

clip to zero
This is total reverse engineering 😅. Why not tame the peaks on each track first before sending it to your mastering engineer?

@ yeah, it’s true that I hadn’t thought of the addition of different transients and frequencies, good remark 👍. Great vid BTW, thanks 😉
@@dyonissiszoes3747 No problem at all! Thank you too 🙏
That is the way one UA-camr suggested doing it but it was more subtle & complicated than just using a limiter on each track
@@silentalliance3269 It’s how I do it and I like the results better than when clipping and limiting the master bus 😉
