I've watched shoots with just about everybody who claims to have been behind the scenes at WCW. They all claim to have brought Hogan in and they all were the ones with the ideas that made the ratings climb. The one thing everybody else seems to agree on is that Bischoff was the one that ran it in the ground.

Wow, watching this really brings back my childhood. I grew up in Minnesota and used to watch the AWA every Sunday after church. I found the interview with Mean Gene Okerlund more entertaining than the matches. The Sunday matches were the main stars against easy opponents. I remember Jake the Milkman. I also liked the NWA which I think was on a UHF channel.

The story of who got Hogan into WCW is very simple, both Flair and Bischoff have said that Bischoff asked Flair to contact Hogan and set up a meeting. Chances are that's what happend. Though that being said, according to Jim Ross, Hogan had tried to get into WCW in 1993 when Bill Watts was still in charge, but, Hogan didn't like Watts so it didn't happen.
Hogan, Flair, and Bischoff all tell the same exact story in 3 different books in various shoots. Flair and Bischoff didn't bury the hatchet until years after these books so it's not like Bischoff or Flair didn't have reason to lie. But Hogan's book was first and he tells the same story.

The problem with Gregs Hogan story is Mike Graham, Eric Bischoff (with the help of I believe Randy Savage) and now Greg all lay claim to being responsible for getting Hogan to WCW. Someone's lying.

Talk about a sense of entitlement.
He and Mike Graham are practically the same person. Somehow both of them are solely responsible for the exact same thing that grew WCW profits, profile, ratings, etc. If you listen to Kevin Sullivan he doesn't bring up Mike's name very much about the backstage decisions that were made for storylines. Mike makes it out like he was the one who came up with all the best ideas. Gagne here also is "Mastermind" of the long term booking success of WCW, despite not being the Booker. He was a committee member. But then again Greg is solely responsible for the creation of the nWo, Goldberg, the Attitude Era, he discovered Brock Lesnar in 1994, he created the Undertaker in 1988, he was also the first person to come up with a wrestling stable called Degeneration X in 1985, in 1994 he had a story line that WCW didn't use called Bullet Club, him and Verne were the first person in wrestling to think of guys wearing masks, and finally he is the actual reason why Women's wrestling has been a big deal in the last few years. If Greg didn't come up with the idea of the Women's Revolution in 1996 The WWE would not have any women division now.

I was Flair's limo driver in 1993 (coming off Starrcade), and after he beat Vader, I told him he and Hogan could do a great program. Flair said, "WOOO! Let's give him a call!" I got the Hulkster on the phone - he was in the middle of boffing Heather Clem - and he asked, "Whatcha gonna do to get the Hulkster to work for YOU, brutha?" I told him $600K and 25% of the PPV and minimal work. Hogan stroked his porn stache and said, "That's not gonna work for me, brutha, talk to my agent." I did, and the rest is history. Greg reminds me quite a bit of Mike Graham. By this, I mean he's a bitter, self important has-been who takes credit for every good thing that ever happened at WCW while he was there. His grandiosity is on full display when he talks about wanting a piece of Hulk Hogan's contract, including merchandise sales. I don't blame Eric for not giving it to him. Talk about a sense of entitlement.
He and Mike Graham are practically the same person. Somehow both of them are solely responsible for the exact same thing that grew WCW profits, profile, ratings, etc. If you listen to Kevin Sullivan he doesn't bring up Mike's name very much about the backstage decisions that were made for storylines. Mike makes it out like he was the one who came up with all the best ideas. Gagne here also is "Mastermind" of the long term booking success of WCW, despite not being the Booker. He was a committee member. But then again Greg is solely responsible for the creation of the nWo, Goldberg, the Attitude Era, he discovered Brock Lesnar in 1994, he created the Undertaker in 1988, he was also the first person to come up with a wrestling stable called Degeneration X in 1985, in 1994 he had a story line that WCW didn't use called Bullet Club, him and Verne were the first person in wrestling to think of guys wearing masks, and finally he is the actual reason why Women's wrestling has been a big deal in the last few years. If Greg didn't come up with the idea of the Women's Revolution in 1996 The WWE would not have any women division now.

He is a knowledgeable 2nd gen talent that is bitter his way of doing business and producing shows was eventually passe. Nearly every hot act left AWA due to the shackles and narrow minded Gagne perception. Freebirds, Road Warriors, Hulk Hogan, Midnight Rockers, Paul Dangerously, Curt Henning, all cut teeth in AWA and all left when Gagne didnt change with the times. Like Bill Watts, Verne was a legendary promoter from 1960's until the business changed. BTW the carolinas were always a decent yet driving territory but it ran weekly because its not the huge population center Minniapolis, Miluakee, Indianapolis, Chicago, the AWA ran their business in. Thats why AWA didnt run the summer, they ran monthly the entire Midwest

I just want everyone to know that now I can tell the story: I brought Hogan into WCW in 1994. We knew we couldn't compete with Vince without stealing some of his guys first. I was Flair's limo driver in 1993 (coming off Starrcade), and after he beat Vader, I told him he and Hogan could do a great program. Flair said, "WOOO! Let's give him a call!" I got the Hulkster on the phone - he was in the middle of boffing Heather Clem - and he asked, "Whatcha gonna do to get the Hulkster to work for YOU, brutha?" I told him $600K and 25% of the PPV and minimal work. Hogan stroked his porn stache and said, "That's not gonna work for me, brutha, talk to my agent." I did, and the rest is history. I liked Greg, he was a great, great technical wrestler, who had a marginal physique he pushed to the limit. But he seems to be like a dull, strait faced version of Flair with his stories, though even less are probably true and more "selective memory" bs. Being older now i relize how cool AWA was ,, they came to a small town in U.P MICHIGAN and i was trying to find my seat came up to ropes at the end of a aile and think should i cross then Hulk Hogan walks out right in front of me he was huge and yes he was at least ,6/7 maybe bigger his arms never seen arms like and my cousin had 20 inch arms he was a body builder but Hogans were bigger point at the ring to he he was wrestling.
