    I have a robot and it enjoy it more than my $8000 expresso machine which breaks at least once a year. I enjoy playing with the pressure and the reliability of it. It also forces me to slow down the morning to do it which is nice instead of go go go.

      Yep. The morning espresso ritual with the Robot is so much more satisfying.

    Just gone one. It makes amazing espressos of course. But I chose it because it’s easy to use and clean, DEAD QUIET, looks amazing like a piece of retro art, and has a small footprint compared to Flair and others.

    I sold my $2500 prosumer machine and bought one. I think the robot makes better shots, is much more consistant, and is a joy to use. However the biggest advantage of the robot is that it will last for decades and will never need expensive repairs. The only thing it will ever need is a $6 gasket that you can replace yourself in 30 seconds. I bought the one with the gauge, but you really dont need that. I recommend the cheaper one without the guage.

      Agree 100% with you. It is a hidden gem. It also introduces (unintentionally) two novelties that reduces channeling tremendously - the air cushion between the piston and the water, and the shower screen that pushes on the coffee pack.

    Best investment ever. 2+ years and I couldn’t be any happier. Quickly solid built like a tank and minimalistic. Only drawback is light roast :( other than that pure perfection. Saving up for an end-game grinder (probably Monolith).

    • @Shreybz
      @Shreybz Рік тому

      It should come with both? But if not def not pressurized

    • @TheSunnySquare
      @TheSunnySquare  Рік тому +1

      If you have your own grinder get the non-pressurized, but if you plan to buy ground beans then the pressurized might be better. I personally never used pressurized on the robot, but based on experience with other machines, it could be easier as you can vary the dose weight and roast types without constant adjustments.

    Do youe prefer the shots from the robot or the ascaso?

    • @TheSunnySquare
      @TheSunnySquare  Рік тому +2

      The shots from the robot are smoother, and the shots from the ascaso tend to be brighter, which is not necessarily bad. It is a bit like taking a picture on your phone without filters (the robot) vs. applying filters (the ascaso). The robot is more consistent, and on the ascaso I get more channeling despite all the pack prepping.

    Why does the Robot require a filter?

    • @TheSunnySquare
      @TheSunnySquare  Рік тому +3

      It is not necessary, but the paper filter helps with preventing channeling and keeping the piston clean. It certainly is possible to make a good shot without a filter.

    You don't weigh your shots?

    • @R8JimBob88
      @R8JimBob88 Рік тому +1

      It’s not as important with these where you’re using all the water in the chamber. He’ll probably know how much water is in there to begin with and how much will be held in the puck. Probably gets to within a gram or two of the desired ratio

    • @TheSunnySquare
      @TheSunnySquare  Рік тому +1

      Yes, you are correct. Thanks!

    • @TheSunnySquare
      @TheSunnySquare  Рік тому +1

      As @R8JimBob88 mentioned, with the Robot, you are less likely to exceed the limit b/c of the small amount of water in the chamber. Also, I prefer longer ratios up to 1:2.5-3 within 30 seconds. At the end of the day, it is the flow rate that I monitor, and the manual machines are great for that. I was paying close attention to timing and ratios, but after thousands of shots came to realize small deviations do not affect the taste I am after. Thanks for you question, I think you gave me an idea for another video in the future :-)

    I have heard you only have espresso if using a pressure of at least 9 bar.

    • @TheSunnySquare
      @TheSunnySquare  Рік тому +3

      In general, Yes. But it depends on the flavor you are after. Some people mod their machines even down to 6 bars. The "new trend" now is pressure profiling, where pressure varies during extraction, usually downwards.

      Got it. But was not being able to create the pressure. Even with the finest grind from a Barista shop. Stuck at around 3 bar. There is some crema and the taste is quite well but this cannot be it.

    • @TheSunnySquare
      @TheSunnySquare  Рік тому +3

      @@frankburkert5939 Congrats for your new machine. Espresso is finicky, and it is best if you have your own grinder to be able to fine-tune the grind size. Manual machines can accommodate larger variations than regular machines, but up to a point. It is likely the coffee shop that ground it for you uses larger doses of 20+ grams, which is considered "modern" espresso, and that means the grind was not fine enough for you. Try larger doses with that coffee and keep the desired ratio. Otherwise, think about getting a burr grinder. Or, if you want to use already ground coffee and vary the dose, consider the Cafelat's pressurized basket. This is a long topic, but if you want to discuss more, feel free to drop me an email at < the.sunny.square.channel@gmail.com >, and I would be happy to walk you through.
