Edith Head is a real person. The best wardrobe designer of her time! Amazing! Those Oscars are real.
She reminds me of Edna from Incredibles
@@melaninking199 Good call - According to Wikipedia, "Edna Mode" was directly inspired by Edith Head. Brad Bird, the director, voiced her character.
Edith Head's 8 Oscars:
1950 - The Heiress
1951 - Samson and Delilah
1951 - All About Eve
1952 - A Place in the Sun
1954 - Roman Holiday
1955 - Sabrina
1961 - The Facts of Life
1974 - The Sting
She won twice in 1951 because the Academy used to have separate B&W and Color categories of Best Costume Design
Wow. I did not know that.
That's a hell of a list of movies
Anne Bancroft was in All About Eve. Great movie, she was a coniving snake.
@@barbaramollmann5990 There was no Bancroft, it was an Anne, but Baxter.
@@gerrymarko5893 , You're right! I actually knew that so I'm not sure if I brain farted or autocorrect got me😉
Edith Head’s last film was the brilliant Steve Martin comedy, Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid. Martin looks every bit the part of an old style gumshoe, thanks in part to Edith Head’s amazing work.
I haven't been able to find the interest to ever watch that.
But I will now.
Thank you
She was a legend
Anne Baxter and Edith Head were best friends. In fact she got her this gig on Colombo.
Anne Baxter AND Edith Head no less, proper royalty there.
I like yur handle
So do I.
@@rascallyrabbit717 ~ Thank you. I like yours too!
@@retroray58warby98 ~ Thanks, I like yours RetroRay! And your kitty of course!
Ruby Tuesday 😸
And now you know the inspiration for 'The Incredibles' character, Edna 'E' Mode.
And knowing is half the battle!
*GI Joooeeeee!*
@@abrahamlincoln9758 😅😆 YOH! JOE!
🕵️Did he check her pulse?? *Instantly* one of the coolest Columbo moves ever! 👏👍
Edith Head did so many costumes for so many movies it's no wonder she had so many Oscars, she even got one more after this episode was filmed ☺
The women wore very stylish clothes in the 70 s. I love that pants suit, with the pink peak a boo..in the leg. I would wear it now.😍
Just realized where Edith Mole came from on the Incredibles.
Yep
EDNA, darling. EDNA.
MODE, darling. MODE.
If that is Edith Head she did the costumes and wardrobes of so many old movies.
It WAS Edith Head.
@@litlgrey o, ok, i figure she was significant.columbo episodes do that sometimes😊
I love the grey suit combo she did for Danny Kaye in "White Christmas"----even the socks and shoes were spot on! It was in the "The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing" song and dance number with the marvelously talented Vera Ellen....They don't make them like that anymore!
I wouldn't know. And I don't watch Xmas movies anymore.
I think Edith Head did the Confederate uniforms.
The scene here with Anne Baxter's character criticizing Columbo's tie as he investigates is quite similar to what Faye Dunaway's character would do on another Columbo episode many years later. Both guilty.
Edith's new line for her will have to be several orange jumpsuits.
Edith in one of her signature outfits- for herself- She always wore neutral colors, she did not like to take attention away from the stars.
It wasn't because of the stars she worked with. She said so herself in her book The Dress Doctor (1959): "I experiment. I don't say, "I can wear only beige suits with white collars" (my favorite); I follow fashion. I couldn't expect my distinguished clientele
to pay me much heed if I didn't. Besides, the emotional power
of clothes is terrific; they are the best nerve medicine in the
world; why not use them?
I experimented. I'm not a bad guinea pig, either. Im
just over five feet, I couldn't be accused of being a grey-hound, but that is no reason for being negative. I don't look like anyone else. Why should I? That was a mistake that held me back for a long time: trying to look like other people.
Then, about twelve years ago, I began concentrating on me and evolved a style of my own. Colors overpowered me,
prints overpowered me, so, be monotone."
Edith styled Anne Baxter in e Cecil B D'Mille's 1957 biblical epic, "The Ten Commandments". That turquoise gown she wore as, "Nephatiti STUNNED!!!
She did Anne Baxter’s wardrobe in All About Eve as well. Won an Oscar for that film.
Love edith head's designs! You can always tell who she costumed--she had such a signature style
The legendary Edith Head!!
Like anyone gave orders to Edith Head!
would make a great instructional video for tying a tie! Great chemistry!!!
Am I the only person who thought “no capes”?
Rahul Shah. Nope I thought the same thing.
Look it's the lady from the Incredibles
yes edna is based on edith head
@@kirkrjb Well if she isn't then it's one hell of a coincidence
Brad AmeerBeg I had no idea. I originally thought it was pure imagination, not inspiration. :)
@@rahulshah1408 Me too
The opening scene is gorgeous so throwback, the colors and sparkle, but Columbo spotted in Barney's Men''s Suits Department - delusional
Another difficult clip: To what benefit is the offer of a tie and an admission of potential dirt? Perhaps the character senses the inevitability of the discovery - surprised to have kept it hidden this long - and hopes only to finish this last picture? idk
Ms. Head was awarded an amazing eight Oscars for costume design. Seven of them are seen on the table. I'm betting the missing Oscar is for "The Sting", which she won just weeks after this "Columbo" episode aired.
Anne Baster, she was beautiful, my God.
I also wanted to give thanks for the movie titles And their year information
Coal Umbo
Please list the date these episodes aired so we don't have to Google it every time, it's really annoying
Never heard Edith’s voice before. For some reason I assume she sounded like Edna Mode / Brad Bird.
was that her real office or a set made to look like it?
I'm home
That tie looked ridiculous.
I love seeing my Mae West in the background.
What happens after this scene?
Lets get the full episode?
You buy the Columbo DVD set.
Good lord, that is one desirable 50-year-old lady!
NO CAPES!
Never meet your heroes.
*Mrs Columbo* Pop quiz, my friends: how much did my husband earn as a LAPD lieutenant and in which episode was this disclosed? Hint: his nemesis went on to become famous, but I personally felt that the episode was lacking and the multiple (now) famous actors under-performed.
I am attracted to women named Head
Whoever owns this channel. I don't subscribe to. However I think teasing people with a little bit of some show is awful thing to do
Most likely if the owner posts full episodes, copyright infringements and all might shut them down. There are a few full episodes on here but these teasers are better than nothing. Imagine if even the teasers were removed.
