The following: A Foal is a baby horse of either gender A Yearling is an infant horse of either gender 1 year old A Colt (which I used previously interchangeably with a Foal) is a young male horse 2,3 years old A Filly is a young female horse 2, 3 years old A Stallion is a mature male horse 4 years and older (noting that horses after this age age at the same time) A Mare is a mature female horse.
