I'm in bed trying to get to sleep but I had to many espressos today so here I am at 3am on UA-cam. Hey Michael!
Nellie Stevens are an excellent, very tough Holly. I'd say the only bad thing is that they have to be at least lightly trimmed every year to prevent them from growing to open like. 3am oh no! lol Going to be a later sleeping morning! 4" ! That's a lot of rain! Is this a rainy time of year in NZ? I'm doing some filming here at home up in the new Holly grove and than editing that and than filming again tomorrow at a friends orchard. I've already filmed 1 segment there on growing apple trees and have 2 more segments to film. Get some sleep!

@@marksgardenlife5971 I will have to keep my eye out for them. We have a good tree nursery half hour away, so I will have to go in when they reopen to the public. In my part of the world (Aus 🙄🤭) 4" is average I guess for a stormy week. We average 72" a year so it can be very wet. But in a drought year we can get as low as 18". Salvia was always a go to. I used to like planting the blue, red and white in different beds, although the red always needed dead heading, where the blue and white did not and just kept going and going all season.

      Hey Gabby!
Doing well, thanks! You'll find the perennial Salvia can really be longer lasting. The fall color here....you know Gabby, the falls are so much warmer in the mid atlantic states, that we don't get the color we once had. Frost hit later in the fall and that's what brings the color, but in many cases, the leaves have already browned. In the colder northern states such as Vermont, New Hampshire, etc. the color is still incredible, but even that's a little later than it used to be. Thanks for watching!

Here is Maryland, we have been having much warmer falls than in the past. I'm not complaining either! I like it! But the leaf color is much less and the color really doesn't come until Nov. for the most part. I thought it would be much earlier up in Canada. That surprises me. Thank you, -Mark

Hi Mark. Once again a superb video. Thank you for sharing. Question: Are Salvia "Deer Resistant"? I ask because when we plant summer annuals we always purchase flowers that the deer will not eat nor destroy. My mom's property out on Long Island (2.5 acres) seems to be a Bed and Breakfast for deer. It's a major problem. Your Salvia garden is absolutely beautiful with the stunning cone shaped shrubs (or are they trees?) aligning the garden. Looking forward to your follow up video regarding the transplanting of the trees where you plan on putting in a new pond too. Wishing you the best always from across the miles here in NYC. Ciao. Jonathan

Plants with strong smelling leaves aren’t preferred by deer so you may be safe but when they have no other options, they may still browse them.

Beautiful, especially the circular presentation. Salvia seems to give up the blooming process far too early in my garden (and in the gardens of my friends); blooming stopped maybe a month or two ago. I wonder if high altitude has anything to do with that? Any ideas?

      How you been?
There are a lot of variables in that question. Location is a big one. Personally, I think they are a great idea to bring late color to what can be a very gloomy time of year. Of course the warmer your climate, the more you can get away with in what you are able to use in containers.
