For everyone wondering, after Elphaba wheels Boq behind the wardrobe, he quickly and quietly slips through the back of the wardrobe and changes, then slips back into the wheelchair.
There's actually someone in the tin man costume inside the left side of the wardrobe. When Boq is wheeled behind, he swaps with the tinman and slips inside the wardrobe. The rest of his lines "what happened" etc... are a voice over :)
