  • Foldforming is a technique of metalworking whereby metal is folded, repeatedly forged and annealed, and unfolded; at which stage it generally has a dramatic new three-dimensional form.
The technique was invented in the late 1980s by Charles Lewton-Brain. Charles' work has been recognized by the British Museum Research Lab, by a 1991 Rolex award, and in 2012 he was the recipient of the Governor General Award for his contribution to Canadian arts.
Charles Lewton-Brain is Associate Professor, Jewellery in the School of Craft + Emerging Media at the Alberta College of Art + Design.
