It is a lovely story. While Jim and Della’s hearts were in the right place, the two should’ve realized they could’ve bought something with the money they had. Della already had enough money to buy something for Jim and should’ve left it at that. Della even thought Jim only thought she was beautiful because of her hair. Jim could’ve bought any random combs and they would’ve still looked lovely in Della’s hair. Also I’m here not because of school but because I like the story.

The word Magi ( Mogh ) is an Iranian word given to high priests of the Zoroastrian religion and they were indeed of high intellects . As far as the expensive gifts that they possessed , one should remember that Iran was the super power with an affluent population . So the notion of desert and being poor is a stereotyped of today . But you are right in a way that with the introduction of Abrahamic religions to Iran ( present day Middle East ) total desertification of man's body , soul and environment starts and is in the process .
