In my opinion this is a great album - but flawed. Like Sandinista it needs to be cut back by 25-35%. Richie I agree with most of your, but I love it. Belongs in your Top 20. I think of the word angular, rhythmic, cutting. I hear Gang of Four’s “Entertainment” and Mission of Burma. Thanks for reviewing.

Hey MR. RiChiE! Love your channel. There is a single sided Promo of Double Nickels that highlights the best of this record. It is hard to find but i did find a copy back in the 90s at a record show in Columbus Ohio were i am from. It is called Wheels of Fortune. One sided record with etched side B. Had to adjust to that guy driving on the wrong side of the car. It endangers the whole Road Safety Dance. That album cover puts us in the back seat, and you were doing some backseat driving there, V-R.
Now, mine was the 33rd Like. Some ppl get crucified at that time of life but I was doing the Resurrection Shuffle. A late bloomer, I finally went to college, and due to a weird aptitude for computer programming at a time when the masses were just starting to own home pcs, I was teaching the subject a year later. That wasn't the half of it. Like some jellyfish monster in a Quatermass script my brain was expanding across 4 different universities at the same time without any of the universities realising I was oversubscribed, making up for lost time in 5 fields, all the way to PhD at 50. Truth is I was already self-taught across the board as a teen, that was the main thing. Now I've long forgotten everything I knew about programming and today's whizzkids leave me standing in the dust.
So now here I am taking notes watching Prof Vinyl Richie do his weekly seminar for the postgrads of VC University. So next you;re doing double albums, V-R? Will this include Beatles red & blue? - - because those were my first Beatles albums. If I hit the 19th Like on the next vid I can tell you all about it. The tension is unbearable.

I think they were making an antidote to the type of music that they themselves were fans of in the 70s. No 10-minute power ballads. No effort to make lyrics rhyme. It's not the composed structure of most commercial albums of the time and was more cut-and-paste; kind of like a collection of sketches in a notebook more than a refined masterwork (e.g, Dark Side of the Moon, etc.). Like Saccharine Trust, they were pushing a much more art-punk perspective, rather than the hardcore that was brewing at the time. It makes for a hodge-podge of an album, but really great stuff in the end.

For me, this album is definitely at least half filler material. To be honest I loved the minutemen but only in small doses. The ep was the best format for them. The JOY ep is stellar. The PARANOID TIME ep is genus. The BEAN SPILL ep is killer. I find their lps to be too long. Even the first two where tracks sound similar. However they were unlike other hardcore bands.
