    Of the Chargers' big three internal free agents, who are you keeping between Ekeler, Everett and GIlman? 🤔

      Gilman and maybe resign Everett to a one year contract with a deduction

      Definitely Everett since i’m in the trading down camp. I think we can get a decent blocking TE on day 3 (Spann-Ford looks like a beast) but we need the offensive production at the position and I don’t really see a legit two-way TE in this draft after bowers. It kind of looks like we don’t really have a choice but to sign Everett unless we are sticking and picking at 5. Even if we think we might be able to trade back and still get bowers it’s a huge risk if that doesn’t work out. I say make him an offer in the $5-$6 million range, then we’ll have the draft flexibility we need. As for Gilman he’s redundant with Derwin, we need a center fielder at safety. And Ekeler? I’m remembering that sideline run where he looked like he was doing a workout in soft sand wearing one of those sprinter parachutes!

      @@Electric_Funeral Everett imo just doesn't fit Roman's offense and what Harbaugh wants to do. Honestly, I think they'd be happier with a Cade Stover AND AJ Barner. Plus there aren't lots of safties in this class, and Alohi shouldn't be too much( I think?).

    Alister, your take on Staley's positional coaches is spot on. It was quite obvious that player development was lacking at almost every position.

      Thanks Bart! His stated objective was to hire a bunch of coaches with teaching & educational backgrounds (Tom Donatell being one example). It sounded good. For whatever reason, it just didn't work. Not sure if it was through lack of trying, but it all came unstuck this past season.

    In favor of trading down twice --
    We can get a blue chipper picking somewhere in the high teens while pocketing 4 more picks.
    I like Estime, 5'11" 227, 1,340yds 6.4ypc. fumbled once in August (ND recovered) didn't fumble rest of season - 11 games.

    I think it’s ok to trade down (perhaps twice) into the late teens if the price is right and we’re doing it to get JPJ. Hopefully that would involve multiple day 2 picks as well as a future 1st. I think an elite center replacing Jaimes (ugh!) is way more important and will be more immediately impactful than an upgrade at RT.

    • @guiltyascharged7752
      @guiltyascharged7752  8 місяців тому

      Love JPJ but I think the first round has to be a premium position personally, as much as they do need a center.

    Stick is worthless and I think they cut Duggan. As much as I hate it I think we have to trade back and get more picks. We have way too many holes to fill. Everything except QB and kicker.

    While a lot of teams like the Ravens and Pats have made a living trading back and getting a slew of picks and hitting on a lot of 3-7th roundees, the fact ofcthe matter is they rarely were picking top 5 during those years. It's a whole different rationale to pass on absolute blue chip players who can change the trajectory of your franchise. Between rounds 2-7, it's hit and miss whether the player is good. So the more picks you have, the better your odds of hitting on someone, and difference in position picked is less important. 1st round top 10 picks are a whole different game. You are much more likely to hit on 1st rounders, especially non-QB players. Passing up a blue chip player you might not get another crack at ever isn't necessarily the right thing.

      yep, why I'm a little more anti than pro trade down in this specific instance for the chargers. Couldn't have said it better myself.

    I have this fear that Justin Herbert will never see a great WR in his first decade or two of his NFL career. With Harbaugh coming in, we won't be picking this high again next 5 years or so. We might never draft a great blue chip generational player in Herbert's career. We will never optimize him the way Burrow playing with Chase, Tua with Tyreek and Mahomes with Tyreek (for a few) and Kelce etc.
