Yeah, which makes you wonder who is this controller for? Seems like it is a better PS1 controller than SEGA Saturn (3D Controller) which is just silly.
I think that's probably a good thing, as it feels more like a switch controller first and a Saturn controller second, to me (at least as it currently stands). And it's best that folks go in with realistic expectations, honestly... -SaturnDave
Well they are selling it as a SEGA Saturn controller with 3D Controller support. But you can't have proper 3D Controller support without analog trggers. These are used for fine camera control and acceleration and break and other uses in games.@@SEGASATURNSHIRO
I love it that retrobit took their time to do it justice instead of just releasing the original prototype. It is commendable as most companies would release an unfinished product. Here is hope for the dreamcast controller to also come out! Also please retrobit, keep these available on market so when people's controller break they can buy another, don't just give up on them.
Can the two analog sticks work as twin sticks for games that support them? It's literally one of the only reasons to have something like this over a normal 3d pad for Saturn. It'd be amazing if it worked as a twin stick controller for games that support it.
This is a question we actually asked retro-bit last year and they said that it was a pretty reasonable thing to program a mapping for. We asked about it again this year and once again they confirmed that it was a good idea on their radar. No word if they will follow through with the implementation, but we will certainly let you know if they do. At the very least, it sounds like something that could be added in a firmware update...
Does anyone have the definitive input lag in milliseconds yet or not yet ? 8-10 is via USB or Bluetooth ? They look/sound absolutely incredible, like the perfect retro/modern2d controller!
At least someone finally pointed out that the analog triggers are missing. So this isn't really a Saturn 3D control pad replacement. The guy acting as if they aren't important is lame. The analog triggers were a huge step forward for racing games.
So about the “3D control pad support”… the controllers can be switched to analog mode from what I saw, but the shoulder pads still being digital restrict the controllers from being used for almost any game old or new. If the future updates can fix that, this may end up being the best controller ever. It’s still good enough right now for me to order though based on this and another review video.
Did you press R and L together to see if they register? Nights should break if so. Because the 2.4 Ghz wireless don't allow you to do it so you can't for example enter the Vampire Saviour extra options. They never bothered to fix it.
Something says me this controller is not a replacement of the 3D-Pad, having its full support. The controller do not have analog triggers, and it looks the analog is just a D-Pad remap. It's a miss of opportunity... 😩
Already preordered it. Just loved the feature set, and the saturn was my favorite. Having the extra shoulder buttons will be very nice. Should be a premium controller for fighters and 2D games on PC. I don't see it as replacing the XBOX 360 style controllers for general gaming, but should be great for playing all the indie stuff I love.
Can you use this on PS5? At least with the Brooks Wingman FGC converter? I'd love to have this for fighting games on there! Been trying to find a competent siz button controller for PS5 for a while (and yes I've tried the Hori Octa controller, d-pad is brutal on my thumb after 30 mins), and I feel this could be perfect for SF6.
I wish they could find a way to comfortably include full sized analog sticks and maybe some extended grips. The six face button set up might not allow that, though. Either case, the Saturn controller is the perfect 2d controller. I'd buy this one just because it's the most feature rich, even if it's not the best for modern 3d console titles. Many titles don't require too much accuracy though so maybe I'd use it just because I like it. The Sega button layout is just the best, though. Each button is distinguishable and there's no problems with hitting the wrong button.
Can C and Z be remapped independently, though...? Also, my favored mapping for Saturn would be to alias L/R and ZL/ZR to each other, instead of aliasing one of them to C/Z.
This is REALLY goddamn cool, especially the rumble and additional shoulder buttons. I'm a bit concerned about the analog sticks though, they look really similar to the Switch's Joy Con analog sticks which imo are WAY too tiny and feel terrible because you have so little travel time so actual analog movement is really difficult to do precisely. The normal sized sticks on the prototype look much nicer to use...
