Ya know, after seeing G-Eazy change over the years made me think that every rapper really does change with fame, but I have to say I still get the classic "Hoodie" vibe from this album. I mean, it IS different but it's still "Hoodie" haha I don't know how to explain but Goddamn I love this
After giving the whole thing a listen, my first impressions.. The mixtape definitely had a lot of strong points. I think this is the best RAPPING Hoodie has ever done by far. He was not kidding when he mentioned bringing back older styles, but he went beyond that and definitely improved on his flow. 'Intro To Anxiety', 'Remind Me Of', and 'Are U Having Any Fun?' were definitely my favorites, of which I think 'Intro To Anxiety' was probably the stand-out best track on the mixtape, although 'Remind Me Of' definitely has a chance to become my favorite.. Back to the vocals, I'm very happy he's solidified the flow on Happy Camper. The title track on People Keep Talking definitely had the same quality vocals, but Happy Camper (in my opinion) had far more tracks with the classic Hoodie sound that people love (ah, nostalgia.. weird thing). Hoodie is one of very few rappers who actually possesses a singing voice as well, but the problem for me was that on some older projects (All American, PKT) he had a tendency to focus on that more than the rapping, and while that wasn't necessarily a bad thing, it just wasn't what I would have preferred to hear from the same rapper who put out absolutely killer verses (Looking at you, Nolan Ryan). Hoodie dialed the singing back on here for sure, and that showed. He used the exact same vocal range that very few rappers have, but applied it to the rapping rather than the singing which I think was a brilliant move. As for the things I was neutral on, the first thing that came to mind was the features. 'Champagne And Pools' had the best features on the mixtape, and I think KYLE & Blackbear definitely added to the song, but besides that the features were pretty so-so. The thing is Hoodie doesn't need features considering he has the right voice to sing choruses, so while I don't think any featured vocals made the songs worse, they really didn't seem any better than they would be with Hoodie singing. Chance the Rapper on 'Long Night' was (in my opinion) the best use of a feature I've seen hoodie use, such a fun song that Chance fit perfectly on. I just didn't see any extra appeal for guests here like I did with 'Long Night' Things I didn't really like? The beats. They have gotten far better in a technical sense, but as for the sound? I didn't love them. They were in no way "wow this is bad.." to me, more along the lines of "none of these actually seemed connected to the songs..". They just felt a little bland to me. If I feel like a song could have a totally different beat on it and sound no worse? That usually isn't a great sign to me. The last thing I'd like to note is in almost all of Hoodie's past projects, the album starts REALLY strong (typically upbeat, fun, energetic, etc..) and progressively slows down towards the end. I can't figure out why this is. Happy Camper felt the same. The first half was extremely light, catchy, and rather ambitious, but towards the end (with the exclusion of 'Champagne And Pools' sorta...), they got slower and slower. With an album that starts for at least the first half, slowing it down typically haults the flow of it. Overall? Love it. Hoodie's best project? Maybe... I think it was extremely strong, but probably too early to tell. 8.5/10.

King To Me is my new favorite song, it makes me think of my father. I never had a grandfather figure because both of mine passed on when I was really young, my father used to be away a lot for work so growing up I used to resent him, until I was old enough to realise that it was all for myself and for my mother...the day I realised that was the day he cried while apologising for not always being present in my life...that was on his 50th birthday. I know not many people get to have that ideal relationship with their father for whatever reason, but a father doesn't always have to be the man that conceived you. Just thought i'd share.

King To Me is my new favorite song, it makes me think of my father. I never had a grandfather figure because both of mine passed on when I was really young, my father used to be away a lot for work so growing up I used to resent him, until I was old enough to realise that it was all for myself and for my mother...the day I realised that was the day he cried while apologising for not always being present in my life...that was on his 50th birthday. I know not many people get to have that ideal relationship with their father for whatever reason, but a father doesn't always have to be the man that conceived you. Just thought i'd share.
