  • Hello, astronomers!
In this video, we dive into how to elevate Takahashi FSQ-85EDX telescope, known as the “Baby-Q,” with PrimaLuceLab accessories. This Japanese masterpiece is already a favorite among astrophotographers for its exceptional optical quality and compact design. We’ll show you how to turn it into an advanced astrograph for remotely controlled and automated astrophotography.
Key Features of the Takahashi FSQ-85EDX:
    • Apochromatic Petzval quadruplet lens design
    • 85mm diameter and 450mm native focal length (f/5.3)
    • Corrected image circle of 44mm, ideal for wide-field deep-sky astrophotography
    PrimaLuceLab Upgrades:
ESATTO 3” Focuser: For precise focusing, crucial for the best astrophotography results.
PL3600271 Adapter: Connects the ESATTO 3” focuser to the FSQ-85EDX tube.
PL3600317 40mm Extension Tube: Adjusts for the draw tube travel difference.
PL3600458 Adapter: Enables connection of ARCO 3" to ESATTO 3".
PLUS 95mm Support Rings: Replace the original tube holder for increased stability and mounting options.
PLLLOS240P 240mm PLUS Losmandy-style Dovetail Bar: installing the FSQ-85EDX with 95mm PLUS support rings and EAGLE to any mount provided wit Losmandy-style dovetail clamp.
PLLLOS350P 350mm PLUS Losmandy-style Dovetail Bar: Extends to the front end of the telescope to let you install ALTO and GIOTTO.
GIOTTO120 Flat Field Generator: since ether FSQ-85EDX front dew shield diameter is 115mm, GIOTTO120 fully illuminates the optics.
ALTO-1 cover motor: to use GIOTTO120 as a motorised telescope cap
PLLMORVLP PLUS Dovetail Clamp: To mount ALTO-1 and GIOTTO120 securely on the telescope.
Join us as we transform the Takahashi FSQ-85EDX into a powerhouse for astrophotography, taking advantage of its incredible optical performance, enhanced with our smart devices.
    Clear Skies!

56mm backfocus after the corrector? I guess that's not enough for a filterwheel and OAG? :(

PLL needs to sell filter wheels! Baby Q needs some filters!

    C’est super ! Bientôt le même pour la FSQ 106 edx 4 ? 🙏 À+

@@picaroba thank you! We hope we can have the FSQ-106EDX here soon to make the same work but, for now, you can use the ESATTO 4” version to connect to the tube with the PL3600324 adapter and then use the PL3600469 adapter to let you connect ARCO 3” after the focuser. PLUS rings for the 106 are the 125mm ones (PLANSU125P).

@@Primalucelab I'd also like to see the build for an FSQ-106EDX, specifically what size PLUS Losmandy-style Dovetail Bar for the top to support the ALTO and GIATTO

How is it the camera is not screwed to some adapter? That is a serious design flaw, especially for remote. Lastly, is there space for a dew heater strap under the dovetail bar?

No it’s not a design flaw, the camera was inserted in a rotating lock adapter after the corrector (so there are no locking screws in this adapter). In fact in the second part of the video you can see I’m keeping the entire telescope in my hands and the camera doesn’t disconnect. Yes already with this configuration there is some space for dew heater strap but, if you need more, you can just add the 10mm spacers PLLSPES10 between support rings and 350mm dovetail bar above the telescope.
