I do agree with your point about phd thesis might not be important as of now but might have some scope in future.
But what do you think about research papers. A student, or professors write 20 papers in a year. Is it have that efficiency/ quality. Is these papers are valuable or just written to show off to their peers so that they can get promotion.
Why research papers have a fomo these days ?
Teaching and research both are different aspect. One can be good in teaching but might not be good in research and vice versa.
If one want to do research then should be promoted on the basis of research experience /skills . On the other hand, if one have interest in teaching, she/he should get promotion on the basis of expertise in teaching /experience.
Now a days, why there is so much fomo around us regarding publishing papers. People having capabilities / potential to teach. They are knowledgeable but just because they don't have number of papers they are not able to get a job.
Don't you think? It is ridiculous. Creating more unemployment in an economy.
Research and teaching are two different subjects.
Don't you think writing 10& 20 papers in a year is useless.
Lets say A professor who have written 60 papers in their career. Is it possible that they would remember all these studies which they have done in their past just for the shake of promotion.
Think about it and kindly come up a new video. I would like to know your thoughts.

I am talking only about quality academia here. Nobody publishes 10-20 papers every year in top journals. There are different ways to judge the quality of a journal. In India, many institutions follow the ABDC list. If you check the google scholar profile of the best researchers in India, you'll find, on average, only one A* publication per year. An A* publication involves an effort of at least 3 years.
Yes, it's not necessary to be good at research to be a good teacher. But, the competition is tough in academia these days. When an institution can hire a person who is a good researcher and a good teacher, wouldn't that person be preferred over a good teacher?
Publications are a convenient way to judge the quality of your research. A published paper means that the paper has been reviewed and approved by a set of researchers who are the reviewers for that journal. This makes the process of judging the quality of research standard across the world. Plus, this makes the hiring process quick and easy. Imagine an employer going through the details of the research of each and every applicant. Would you prefer the subjectivity of the employer or a standard method?
Publications and citations form a significant component of the ranking of educational institutions. That is another reason why institutions hire people with more publications. Whether you agree or disagree, that's just how the system is. Every small thing in the world needs a system.

    Hello ma'am,
I am final year student of masters in economics from BHU, I do like your video s, not clear why, but may be because of your simplicity and lucid presentation of taken topic.
Ma'am I request you to make video on the statistical software/program which a economics student should go through as there are many of them for example, EVIEWS ,STRATA, SPSS, R Programming and python. Both from the academic and business analysis point of view

Hi Dileep, I am very occupied with my thesis work and don't know when will get a chance to make my next video. I won't be able to discuss this in detail here, but I would suggest that you should know Stata, R, and Python (mainly Pandas) if you plan to enter research. You can solve almost all sorts of problems with every software. It's just that every software specializes in a few areas and the speed differs. For example, if you want to do Monte Carlo, R, and Python are much more efficient than Stata. Similarly, MATLAB is used by many macroeconomists for dynamic modeling. In corporates, they mostly use R and SAS. Again, depends on your role and what is your client's demand.

Hello Ma'am, I did not expect that you would be replying after 8 months of my request. Thank You for your reply.
Ma'am, meanwhile I have qualified JRF in economics and looking to take admission in Ph.D., for which I am working on my research proposal,
Therefore I wanted to know If you could help to prepare proposal by sharing your research proposal ?

@@DileepYadav-bc6vt It won't be possible for me to share my proposal. You can find some sample proposals online. I can provide my feedback on your proposal over a one-on-one mentoring session. Drop me an email if you are interested.
