Heres the other thing too, the very nature of knowledge itself is that you dont know what you dont know. You will never know when you have 100% of the knowledge about the universe because we get this knowledge through inductive reasoning.
@@maxkline8985 True but if we were ever somehow able to reach that plateau, the total stagnation of knowledge would at some point lead many to believe that we had in fact peaked. @@gloriouspurpose_ Obviously they have no choice but I don't think you grasp what I'm saying. Why do the laws of physics work the way they do and not a different way, and why do they or anything exist at all?
@@PikUpYourPantsPatrolThere is a theory in physics that states that existence could only occur under these conditions. If the hydrogen efficiency of fusion was even the tiniest fraction different helium could never have been fused and so on. Therefore, the why is that it had to be this way, or not at all. You can then simplify your line of inquiry down to "why does the universe exist" as opposed to questioning why every law of physics couldn't just have been slightly, or indeed drastically, different. Just a theory, and the seeming contradictions we find, such as when Newtonian physics no longer apply at the quantum level, could disprove it. Interesting regardless.
Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day (1st Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV). Jesus shed His blood for our sins (Ephesians 1:7 KJV). Water baptism DOESN'T save us (1st Corinthians 1:17 KJV). We are saved by grace through faith, not our works (Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV).

People tend to believe anything as long as they can escape from being morally responsible for what they do, think, or say. I believe in a creator, who created a world for us and made us in his image to know right from wrong, and in the end we will be judged accordingly. Furthermore I believe the creator himself came on earth in the body of Jesus Christ to pay the moral Sins for all so we might have a change to be right with him. Christ suffered and died for us so we might be forgiven and given eternal life through the glorious gospel and the amazing grace. So in short, its either Christ or nothing.

Read the CTMU if you want to know what reality is rather then having a belief about what it is. Hey Sam, this conversation reminded me of John Vervaeke's conversations with Jonathan Pageau. What you are talking about is the relevance problem which is linked to the consciousness problem. I once went on a few dates with a guy who eventually said "it would be so cool if fallout actually happened" and that was my sign to stop talking to him
The "fatal conceit" idea he's talking about is actually discussed a lot in Platonic philosophy, especially the Socratic Dialogues. You could even argue that the Socratic Dialogues are mainly based around the idea of an old philosopher questioning the lives of people who believe their expertise in a certain area of life gives them authority over all other areas of life. Sam isn't always as articulate or authentic as he could or should be, but it's clear he has a really bright mind and a genuinely curious nature about life, which are admirable qualities in any human being.

I've read a bunch of armchair physics books, I watch the videos... as a layman, I probably have as good an understanding of that stuff as anyone else. *Why does anything exist?* If the universe expanded from a singularity, ok, why is that singularity there? Why is anything... anything? I've talked about this with some people... there are usually three positions. a) "Cuz it's just there" (yeah ok) b) Question is irrelevant, and c) Yeah, it's strange.
Yeah... the epistemological question of the limit of knowledge is an interesting one... I think a casual glance at modern cosmology on "dark matter"/"dark energy" just goes to show, we're way less farther along than the eggheads would like to admit.
@@mercster Singularity makes knowledge impossible because it makes the distinction between objects impossible. It nullifies the laws of identity and non-contradiction.

Imagine if there was a guy. Ok. And this guy declares he is the fulfillment of a whole religion, and that that religion is now based around him, and that the old system of that religion is no longer legitimate. And 40 years after that, the Temple of that old system of the religion is destroyed, and it's old priesthood wiped out, never to be reinstated for over 2000 years. Making it impossible for those who rejected that man to practice their religion. Leaving ONLY the new system, and the new priesthood. Wouldn't that kind of validate that that man was EXACTLY who he said he was?
Now imagine that there was a prophecy written 500 years before the destruction of said Temple, that predicted within a 10 year window when that Temple would be destroyed. Idk, man that's kind of nuts. But that's me tho. No eternal consequences around it or anything...

Of course, if that was in fact all there was to know or all we were able to know would still be up for debate. Could not truly know, but reasonably suppose perhaps.

The how and why cannot truly be understood. We come to conclusions through observation and pattern recognition. We can't explain why things are the way they are and not a different way.
Well things are the way they are because they have no choice but to be. Our sun is going to die one day, like every other star, because that's just how it is.
@@gloriouspurpose_ That makes no sense whatsoever. You're just asserting brute facts
@@PikUpYourPantsPatrol
What doesn't make sense about it?
Interesting regardless.

its crazy how much I can relate to Sam's way of thinking here. I can also relate to people not knowing what the fuck do I mean whenever I try to convey these thoughts(Nick's reaction, lol)
Last 10% only appears like it’s the last 10% based on initial assumptions. In terms of the pure amount of required effort, that last 10% actually accounts for more like 99% of the effort. Complex problems are exponential in nature, not a linear progression of effort.
And even then you only probably know 90% of the 10% you didn’t.

Read the CTMU if you want to know what reality is rather then having a belief about what it is. To truly identify reality one has to use logic to derive tautological statements about it's metaphysical nature from the undeniable fact that we have perceptions, and that those perceptions imply certain logical truths about how we relate to the physical universe consisting of them.

Sam isn't always as articulate or authentic as he could or should be, but it's clear he has a really bright mind and a genuinely curious nature about life, which are admirable qualities in any human being.

he is correct godel who as far as i'm concerned talks about the limit of knowing was a believer ;
people that would try to go further and says we can know everything are often non believers, that's a great observation by sam hyde .
That’s because divinity isn’t a property of knowledge
The law of identity applies to the epistemological not the metaphysical and especially not the Ontic.
@@Thermalsquid360 Sure... I'm a believer, but when talking to a scientist about physics, metaphysics, etc... you can't fall back on that, as God is neither provable nor unprovable.
