My pops doing his thing,he always loved this bob james gig more than luther because it was more about the vibe of the music and not so hollywoodized.rip and keep grooving from heaven.
His studio work with Marcus Miller on the early Luther albums is magical and will be listened to for eternity. Like all of the best drummers he has a deep pocket and perfect sense of time, in the same league as Jeff Porcaro, John JR Robinson, Carlos Vega, Buddy Williams and several others who I haven't named or are not necessarily familiar with. You should be very proud of him, Bob James and Luther are absolute legends.
I was Breaking into the Scene as a Young Drummer And In NY I was Working for Frankie Crocker of WBLS Radio who introduced me to Yogi. Pretty soon we into talking Drums the Business and Yogi was talking on a purely NO BS Reality of Grooving How he established Tempo and Timing watching people dance It was a eye opening moment because of what I took for just a matter of the product of music Dance He looked at as more dimensional Off Beats Polyrythums and such but the Back Beat is and Reigns supreme to the Pocket of Groove,
He leaped to his death out of a 17th floor hotel window. Rumor has it, he was despondent about his lack of recognition & monies earned being a drummer.
I love you Yogi. You are the best drummer this world has ever seen.

Matter of time before Yogi did what he did. Great funk drummer but a technique that long term is questionable
those tendons are under a lot of stress
