My question to you is ; in what way has the show gone "woke" ? Because I've watched many versions, including the original with Michael Flatley , ( the unedited version), nd his replacement Colin Dunne and the core cast has not changed at all. From the beginning, the show has featured a Spanish Flamenco dancer, American tap dancers and Russian ballet dancers, in addition to the Irish dancers. The reason for this, in Jean Butler's own words during an interview, was to show the similarities in these other dance styles, to Irish dance. Irish "soft shoe" is similar to ballet and "hard shoe" is similar to tap dancing. I would guess that you have not seen the show in it's entirety, otherwise, you would realize that your comment is unwarranted.. I am a black woman who was trained in ballet and I, as well as some of my other black friends, LOVE the show and have tickets to see it live , next year. The story behind Riverdance, is that music and dance, are a common "language" that we all understand regardless of what ethnicity you identify with. Also, another fact that you may not know, is that one of the dancers in Michael Flatley's other show, 'Lord of the Dance ' ( the 1996 Dublin show), John Carey, was half Asian. And the male lead dancer of Riverdance back in 2020, Padraic Moyles, was so impressed by a black lady who mastered Irish Dance, that he encouraged her to audition. So I'm not sure where you are getting the idea that Irish dance got hit by the D.E.I. bug. Before making that kind of comment, you should watch the entire show; the core cast and storyline has never changed from the beginning. Instead of being critical and disparaging, enjoy the show. Celebrate it's beauty and the fact that it has inspired and brought joy to so many. Look at the positive; we have enough negative, poisonous attitudes in this world today.
