What river trees are native to these meadows? Also, do cottonwoods store a huge amount of water in their trunks and roots over the Spring and Summer when water is plentiful in the meadow and then release this water back into the groundwater in late Fall when going into dormancy for the cold Winter?
Great video, and a great explanation of why dense thickets of trees can actually be a bad thing. Also, although we can't put it back like Humpty Dumpty, we can still have a vision of what is was before the European colonization and even before humans came over from Asia.
