A Drop of Life from a Pond

- Hey! This is a drop of water from one of my home grown cultures. It is full of life with single-celled organisms. Small ones are Paramecium and the bigger cells are Stentor coeruleus. Isn't it wonderful? I have 5 liters of this drop at home 😂.
.
Stentor coeruleus is a really big single-celled organism that you can see with a naked eye. It has many skills, if you cut it into pieces each piece will form a new cell. They are also green-bluish, makes them incredibly cute in close-up they kinda look like blue whales. Check my previous videos to see that smiling adorable whale. 😂 I will post more today! I have some free time. 😊 Thank you for watching and reading!

What type of microscope do you use?
So has anybody figured out what equipment is Jam using?
rename your youtuber name jam and the microbes
or Jam's microorganisms
...looks like a screen saver! :D
I once got a toy microscope for my birthday and it could still magnify untill about this big. We always had a small 1.5*1.5 meter pond in the garden with some goldfish in it.. I once took a drop of water and a piece of plant from there to check under the microscope. You probably can imagine how baffled I was to find something similar to this video. I took a big sample to school next day and had everyone check out the little things in my goldfish pond! For one day I felt like a scientist lol
Wow microscope MUST BE NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow it's crazy how crowded they are!
We had an experiment like this to see these organisms. Apparently the bigger ones are more commonly found near the surface of the water since they are photosynthetic, while the smaller ones are further down below so that they won't have much predators.
Fun fact I guess.
@Tom Horseman Thanks! Good to know some more about these little organisms
Reminds me of Times Square.
@Desiree Silva Yep, exactly!! :)
I am 62 former software engineer and I think you have the coolest channel!
Makes me wonder where they're all going..
It looks like a bustling city.
*waits for everything to dissolve*
Man you have no idea how inspirational you are ... Watching these videos really open windows of thought for me and helps me cope with an untold truth
Fredrick Landry same here, watching this makes me love life. I want to protect it now at all cost
@@dccopa13 except when you play postal
It's not cute when imagining this organisms are in our water
they are actually not, the drop of water from this video came from a pond which was full of all of that, the water we drink is passed through many cleaning facilities and all of the microorganisms in your water are killed and washed away
Also - they are harmless as our immunological defence system is ready for such things. To harm anyone such things first must survive acid in stomach and then meeting with white cells. Illness causing organisms evolved to sneak pass defences. But we can build up them - by vaccination.
Your tap water is chemical treated to kill off microbes of all kinds. I actually looked at tap water under my microscope and it was completely clean. I had to allow tap water to sit outside overnight for a week before all of the chemical treatment evaporated out of it, THEN place grass and leaves in the water and wait another week before I even saw any microbes. I for one am thankful for water treatment plants!
I am waiting for the colonies, like Volvox and company . . .
Get a mouthful of slimy pond water and it kinda tickles 💝
DID YOU TRY IT!!!!???
Cursed comment
I'd like some pre-main-video introduction like you picking the drop or setting the microscope. As well some mid-video explanations like what is being seeing. Nothing to much informative, just general basic things.
I agree, introductory context would be a nice addition
I was about to comment the same !
While this is a super good idea, I know I personally prefer to view quietly, and the quiet of the video makes me imagine how these critters perceive the world
Reminds me of rush hour traffic in Hanoi, Vietnam!
Senator Coeruleus sounds like a Roman autority.
This is calming to see
Jam I think I love your germs
So much life!
Mesmerizing!
I love your videos, they are helpful for my studies 🤗
Your videos are so interesting, please keep on doing them! i love to see the hidden wonders of the world far from what meets the eye
Awesome!
Mesmerizing to watch
Everyone seems busy
This would make an awesome Screensaver! I mean, I'm sure someone else said it (probably several did!), but it's still true!
Funny thing is, you can *see* the Stentor coeruleus with your eyes. They are the big round ones.
A drop of life fits this beautiful scene perfectly!
I agree with the other commenter, this would make a beautiful screen saver. :)
Wow!
Wow! You've done a beautiful job culturing these beauties.
This is an excellent video.
Can you give some tips on what to feed microorganisms like Stentor to make them grow?
I love these videos!
So many Cuties~
Wholesome channel
amazing
Yeah, I'll remember not to drink lake/pond/creek water ever again ever.. or does this count as protein?
@@metachirality we have been consuming water containing such microbes for centuries
I got recommended
I checked your channel
I watched some of your videos
You got a new subscriber 😉
In color!
A black background is a really nice touch! Id assume all the micbros are blue colored xD
Where on earth are they going so fast to? They’re in a drop!
hello mr jam :)
posting this _again_ so u see it, please answer!
i am in grade 12 and will soon complete my high school studies. i am extremely interested in microbiology and would like to ask u some questions, please :)
1) what did u do in college? which courses and stuff i mean, because i will probably do the same, cuz i like what u do! 😁
2) what exactly does ur job entail besides observing these organisms under a microscope?
i hope u see this and reply,
love and best wishes from a fan
Hey there! That's awesome, I would gladly help you! Can you send an email to jam.and.germs@gmail.com? So we can speak about your options?
@@JamsGerms thank you for replying, and check your inbox!
Please do a video on Chlamydomonas or Spirogyra. Thanks. Awesome videos btw🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Anybody looking to get into microscopy, there’s a fantastic book called “Fundamentals of Light Microscopy and Electronic Imaging” by Douglas Murphy. I’d be willing to bet money Jam’s read it. It’s expensive though. But just search books, articles or videos about microscopy if you’re interested in the topic.
Hey jam, can you post a video on magnetotactic bacterias?
What's that stuff in the background that the others keep running into?
Hello Jam! Can you do more videos on organisms that are medically significant and common if possible? Love your videos, thanks!
Hey there! I am not sure if I get it correctly, like microorganisms that are used for medical purposes?
@@JamsGerms Oh sorry, my mistake. What I meant is microorganisms that are pathogens to humans (mostly parasites, helminths and their eggs, plasmodium etc.) I'm a med student and I only know about these theoretically (and from some pictures) but I would really like to see them alive if you run across them during your work :)
Have you considered using the closed captioning system to add optional in video commentary? Primitive Technology uses it and I could see it working on these videos.
Yeeeee hes back
Such a busy day, gotta swim!... :) Is there any way you could add some music to this?
Can you list the equipments you're using? Which microscope? which camera?
Looks like kyoto
I can't imagine what's in the ocean. I swallow ocean water easily
Are they all friends?
This is why you don't drink rain water or similar sources. You take in mouthfulls worth of these lifeforms when you drown in a lake, but this is only a drop worth.
Still, it's far more facinating than fish, as these organisms are actively living out their lives nuch quicker and dying.
Rotifera and paramecia ?
Jam hi
God damnit I need a dark field condenser so bad
Hey I don't have a dark-field condenser. I just made a DIY dark-field patch to insert into the filter holder. Just google it there are even videos on UA-cam. ☺️
Potatoes and French fries
Its looks like that one scene from ratatoullie when the rat eats cheese and a strawberry together....for this he must have eaten cucumber with pepper i think.
so, you’re telling me, that if i put my finger in a pond this stuff is gonna get on my fiNGER? BYE
You'll be surprised what lives in and under your skin then. 😏
love it but the silence is painful buddy
I would love to watch the rest but .........
So accidentally swallowing water from a pond gets you these huh
They look like fish
What traffic in India is like
can u put some glycerine to slow them down plz?
if u like u can also slow the video down to see them better :)
This is what swimming pool water looks like if you pee In it.
4 bacteriophages disliked the video!
I wonder what water from a swimming pool looks like, due to all the chemicals in the water i assume it has 0 life in it..besides humans swimming in it.
No one's eating no one. How boring
Disgusting creatures
