  • Basically, you're looking at a 307 cu powered, luxury Holden sedan from 1968. The real story is the family connection that spans the decades from the moment it was purchased brand-spanking-new off the showroom floor, to the present day. It is the car from Canaga.

    That was about 2 years before Holden replaced the 307 Chev engine with both the locally manufactured 253 & 308 cubic inch V8's which were introduced into the HT Holden.
    My favourite older Holden besides the VB - VH & VL Commodores was either the LH - LX Torana or HQ Holden Kingswood which my dad used to drive,it could've done with a bit better motor than the old 202 cubic inch in line six ,at least a 308 cubic inch V8 engine would've been better & would've drank the same amount of fuel anyway,the ergonomics were far improved over the previous Kingswoods albeit broke quite a few design rules in its day but was a very successful car.
    Their stuff up is when they "Yanked" the HJ Holden up & put that daggy speedometer from the previous Holdens back in, they basically attempted to "Cadillac" the Holden Kingswood as far as styling went,it wouldn't have went down well with me if I was born before it was made in 1974,Holden did that again in 1984 with the VK Commodore where is was "Yanked" up with it's "boxy" instrument panel & dash - what was Holden thinking ????
    They have done the same thing as that with the VF Commodore again - what has Holden been thinking again ????
    Hopefully I can find a good VE Commodore for my next car, they have done nothing wrong with that model, Australians who haven't liked me into some of their owners would wonder why I'd want to buy one, sad to say I'm not into every Williams whose a Holden in Australia because I'm another one of them who wasn't into an ESTJ everyone except me was liked to it seems,I'm a Holden through my mothers side of the family & another Holden wants to marry me so what's their problem with a person whose like me?
    Maybe half of that Holden is a Ford whereas I'm not a Ford ????
    I have had to find out why the Japanese whose Toyota just got I'm verm that's a Brown who was after one of their cars (Camry or Hilux) when I've been driving a Commodore for 20 years now & I think that they are a better car (i.e. more power & better fuel consumption),particularly if the 127 kilowatt 2.5 litre Camry gets the same fuel consumption as my grandfathers 175 kilowatt 3.6 litre Alloytec V6 VZ Commodore (7.5 litres per 100 kms) then I'm not impressed with Toyotas offerings !!!!
    I have a feeling they were after a business rather than a personal relationship with me so I always have to find out why they just seem to have a Delforce or Hall (ISTJ) a lot of Aussies were seeming to think are Japanese people anyway !!!!
    I may as well say that a Japanese person whose like that is just like one of their Summers !!!!

    I used to own an exact station wagon version of that car including the colour and engine, but mine had a black interior. I really miss that car. mine had a replacement tailgate and the gold colour was very difficult to match exactly, just like this one's front yard

    G'day Dan'l. Lovely looking Holden HK Premier. I love the condition, interior and exterior. I'd buy one if I lived in Australia, and possibly have it shipped back to the USA with me. The only thing I'd change would be to upgrade the gauges. I'd give it Monaro GTS gauges, and sunshade visor above the windscreen. But otherwise, I'd keep it as original stock as when it left the showroom. Lovely car. :)

      Try finding Monaro gts cluster it would cost u an arm and a leg

      How much would an arm and a leg be?

    • @wasabicars

      As it turns out I know a guy in the US with a HK (lower spec Kingswood, not Premier). Sadly, his details & photos of the car are buried in my Facebook inbox which isn't searchable. :)

      I'm sorry to hear that. If I could afford it, I'd buy either an HK Premier or a Brougham. A Kingswood would also be good, provided all the accessories one could be ordered are there. I don't like bare bones cars.

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  5 років тому

      Yeah, the classics must be getting harder and harder to find, and certainly at a reasonable price. Isn't Roy Slaven from Lithgow? Are the Lithgow Shamrocks a real team?

    Had one of these back in early 70's. White, 307cu inch, 2 speed powerglide. Never got more than 20mpg from it, but who cares.

      Googled it. Yeah, can kinda see it. I think back then, Aussie designers travelled to GM HQ in Detroit to design the Aussie cars. No doubt there was influence.

    Did Chevy make a 307 in 68? I though it was a 305. Interesting vid

      I'm pretty sure it has it's own engine family. I don't think the Holden V8 and the SBC were directly related. In 1969, you could get the 350 Chevy or 308 Holden.

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  7 років тому

      68 was the first year of the 307. Holden imported both the 307 & the 327 for the HK model. With the minor update that followed, they used the 350 chev engine along with the locally (and just) developed 253 & 308 V8s.

      The minor update that followed the HK, i.e. the HT, used the 350 chev engine along with the newly developed 253 & 308 V8s

      Not zero, because I've only ever seen two in Japan ever. And I've already done a video on one of them. Oops, I did see a third, but I showed that in the last video. The Kaido Racer video. That other one, I will show at some point.

      Hey, Mr Montana. I was actually flicking thru G+ just yesterday and saw your name pop up asking who had won the Wasabicars award at that Mountain Cruise event. Sorry for not responding then. The winner was Grant Zimmerle with this car: facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10154366964351921&set=a.10152305684171921.1073741829.643016920&type=3&theater
