Your channel is amazing. I am learning a lot, even though I was in the music industry for many years. Also, the fact that you are such a positive person is so refreshing. So many audiophile's are so grouchy and vulgar it is impossible to watch their videos. Thank you very much!
Water Damage That's such a nice compliment. I really appreciate it! I agree with you that so many audiophile's are "complicated" persons and have a weird behavior. I just love good sound and want to get the best musical experience. Thanks for watching and commenting :) Armien
Hey Rob, thanks for watching. Yes, the Stan Getz promo was a great pick up. I took me some time to do the research but I guess since the back cover wasn't finished yet they just took an older cover for the promo copy. Take care!
I was on the hunt for the Classic Records Cool Struttin' and almost bought it on Ebay, but found a NM Liberty pressing from the 60s. Very sweet album, I love Philly Jo Jones on the drums.
Hi Andy, the Liberty pressings are always a good way to go! I would definitely buy more of them if they would appear more often here in Germany. Indeed, Philly Joe Jones is a fantastic drummer! Whenever I see that he is playing on a record it's a good reason to buy it. Thanks for watching :) Armien
Hi Trish, thanks for watching. I really need more Ella Fitzgerald cause I somehow don't have that much vocal jazz in the collection. Have a nice week :)
If you are looking for the ultimate version of John Coltrane's "Blue Train" get the Classic Records Clarity Vinyl 45 rpm Series limited edition box set.
Keep the shrink on that Coltrane! Love the cover of that Basie, that era of jazz is not my bag though. Great story about the Duke Ellington release. Man, your English is wunderbar! Nice Grant Green - he released some lovely stuff for sure.
Thanks for tuning in Ben. I just subbed to your channel and if I saw it right I am number 100. Thanks for the compliment. Greetings from Germany Armien
Where in Germany are you from? I have been to Germany many, many times. I have a wonderful German friend from Lahnstein. We visit each other ever two years. He loves Ireland as much as I love Germany. Both of us love the beers of our respective countries. I think our countries have a lot in common, Irish and Germans work very hard and play very, very, very hard! I have travelled throughout Germany but my top spots are Lubeck, Bamberg, Fussen, Berlin, Heidelberg and Bremen. There is a wonderful basement jazz club in Bamberg - I forget its' name. 100th sub - glad it was you!!!!!!
I definitely need Bass On Top, listened to a few clips and it's so good. Song For My Father is a must-have ! Jealous of that Sonny Clark ... Classic Records is so great. If I see some I pick them up. As you told me I may like the Far East Suite, but weirdly, I've never seen it in the wild, quite unusual Ellington. Maybe your Somethin' Else is better than mine but we both have Classic Records pressings so it's alright ! Autumn Leaves is so good. Also jealous of that Gil Evans, this seems to be a lavish reissue, but I gave you the heads up, right :D Yes Festive Minor is my favorite on the album as well ... So much emotion on this and I like how sax and trumpet talks to each other. Yeah, interesting misprint, but I guess the previous owner took care of this record to write the personnel on the cover. Lol funny I found Winelight for the same price. Favorite track is of course "Just The Two Of Us". Solid records man ! :-)
wow, thats very cool! The album already became one of my favorites. You won't find originals like this here in Germany - lucky you :) thanks for watching
Hi, Grant Green Idle Moments is one of the first connoisseur series LP pressings by capitol. I have a copy of it, and it doesn't sound terrible. Still nothing like the original van gelder pressings from the 60's. I believe it was pressed from Ron McMaster's digital source.
I think my idle moments isn't a connoisseur. I need to check it again. All connoisseur sound good but the idle moments was over compressed somehow. I think its a normal capitol one. Thanks for watching :) Armien
+AudiophileLaws does it say mastered by ron mc master? I'm pretty sure its one of the earliest connoisseur series they released. that doesn't mean they did a great job at it. it has the mastered by capitol stamp in the trail-out? in any case, I have had it and found it to be not terribly bad. maybe some of them sound better than others? that's possible too. I've had capitol masters that truly stink - mostly impulse re-issues. I think they have re-discovered how to master vinyl in recent years though.
+Ian N AFAIK, there were 5 batches of 6. The first batch were digital transfers. By the end they were back to analog.1994-07-12 Ornette Coleman - The Empty Foxhole Andrew Hill - Judgment Bobby Hutcherson - Components Freddie Redd - The Connection Wayne Shorter - The All Seeing Eye Baby Face Willette - Stop And Listen
+KoolKatJazz well, if that is the case then perhaps my copy simply sounds great and his doesn't? That is also possible. The connoisseur pressing is more than good enough for regular playing. It beats the cd.
+Ian N anything is possible. I used to own all of them but sold them to upgrade. I remember having a "WALLY" in the deadwax. The Top Ten series were also very good.
If you don't mind my asking, what sort of outer sleeves do you use? Do they fit gatefolds? All of your album art looks amazing. I bought a bunch but they're very loose and cloudy as heck. Also, any inner sleeve recommendation?
I am using The famous "Blake Sleeves" There are two different sizes available: One for normal albums and one for gatefolds. They look really fantastic. Very shiny and glossy. They also have a flap so you can close them. I am just using normal poly lined inner sleeves but of course there are the good Mofi ones or Disk Keepers. Thanks for watching :) Armien
The 180 Gram version of Sonny Clark's Cool Struttin on the Classic label is a better pressing than the 200 gram! Personally wasn't a fan of Classic Records when they switched to 200 gram pressing. Their 180 gram pressings that was pressed at RTI was way more superior
Charles 91771 Hello Charles, that's so good to hear. You are one of the first persons who agree on my statement that the 180g Classic Records were the "ultimate". They are almost impossible to find here in Germany but they are simply better. I am not the biggest fan of the 200g pressings as well. Of course I buy them when they appear but I wish Analogue Productions would have continued pressing at RTI instead of buying the Classic Records pressing machines. Of course they always deliver solid quality but still. Thanks for watching :) Armien
AudiophileLaws Wow so that's why Analog Productions switched to 200 gram vinyl. I didn't know that Analog Productions bought Classic Record's pressing machine. I totally agree with you they should have continued working with RTI. Thanks for the information i appreciate it very much!
+Charles 91771 I disagree, All my 200 gram are better than the 180 gram Classic records. And all of Classic Records were pressed at RTI. The problem was the 200 gram needed extra dedication to press and RTI wasn't up to it. Once Classic Records folded RTI released all the crap that they pressed, It was so bad that Analogue production bought the Classic records rights and opened their own Pressing plant. They wanted nothing to do with RTI. RTI has nothing on the new QRP Plant.
+KoolKatJazz I'm speaking from experience! All my 180 gram were dead quiet. I purchased around 4 different 200 gram Blue Note & they had the same problem. They were noisy so I sold them except for the Norah Jones lp, because that one my be worth something. I've read some complaints about QRP's pressings.
+Charles 91771 When did you buy your 200 Gram? I own 90% of Classic record pressings including the first originals that came with cards. I never received one bad pressing from them when they were still in business. CR quality control was amazing. When they announce they were done. Everything was dumped on the market, hell with quality control. I bought CR 200 gram Horace silver Horace scope from ebay 2 months ago still sealed and it was awful and even scratched. Nothing like the 200 gram when they were still in business. Every plant has complaint but RTI is notorious. All you have to do is google RTI pressing quality. Oh and I had to return a John Coltrane Blue train from Music Matters because of a scratch.
they are great records because they have big artistry inside, I mean they have been played by great musicians in a period of time when jazz was really great. The right people at the right time. But the recordings of Blue Note Records are trash. Horrible grain, they sound like you have beach sand in your loudspeakers; the drum is noisy, the sound of the piano is little, boxy, compressed. How do you call them audiophile recordings?? if you make a good patient search you will find hundreds of better sounding records: all those made by Verve, those recorded by Mercury, Atlantic, Columbia CBS, CTI Records. And the paradox is a lot of these better sounding recordings have been recorded by the same Rudy Van Gelder who recorded for Blue Note Records! so I have to find out he was a good sound engineer and when he worked with good stuffs and great studios, the recordings were good, but in his home recording studio he had poor mikes and devices. Greetings from NE Italy ciao

Outstanding jazz pressings Armien.
Thanks for sharing them all. I loved the Japanese Duke and the Verve Stan.
Way to go~

I want to get the Grant Green, Horace Silver, Paul Chambers, & John Coltrane Albums in my JAZZ Vinyl Collection!
Thank you

As always: Fantastic new stuff! There are some really interresting albums. Some of them are on my wantlist.
Hello Axel, thanks for watching. I am sure you will find some of them soon.
Have a good week :)
Excellent Japanese pressings. The Bridge is so great.
yes, I really enjoy it too. It already became one of my favorite Sonny Rollins. Thanks for watching!
great jazz!Atomic Basie is so good.I grew up on Duke Ellingtom and Ella!

I am sure we will find some hot stuff at the next Brussels trip. I need to start saving money already :D
Amazing pickups - have many of these digitally, but I was happy to find an original Gerry Mulligan in a dollar bin.
wow, thats very cool! The album already became one of my favorites.
You won't find originals like this here in Germany - lucky you :)

Sua coleção é maravilhosa! Parabens!!
Will you come back to the V.C we miss your videos
The Sonny Rollins on Music Matters is supposed to be amazing

The best blue train is the Classic 45 RPM one sided lps.
Hi! I have a quick question regarding Classic Records pressing. As for the blue note label(3:04), what does vinyl and dead wax looks like?
Gute Auswahl und Pressungen. Wo bekommst du denn die ganzen Japan Pressungen her? Die kosten ein Vermögen!

From this Horace Silver record, Steely Dan sampled the piano into their hit song "Rikki Don't Loose that Number" 😊
