- I cannot believe how long I’ve been working on these ✨ FREE ✨Merton Gershun for American of Martinsville Bali hai nightstands. The amount of time, supplies and STRESS is crazy! Not the smartest business decision to keep working on these but… I’m determined 🤣
Here’s how I did it! 👇🏼
+ stripped using @GreenEz stripper
+ used carbide scraper and wire brush to remove the paint with the help of some lacquer thinner
+ used @JBWeldDIY kwikwook epoxy putty for veneer repairs
+ used @realmilkpaintco oxalic acid to remove water stains
+ sanded with 120 grit using my @festoolusa and @SurfPrepSanding (Use code FURNITUREDR10 for 10% off!) and @3MAbrasives
+ applied @myoldmasters oil based pre conditioner
+ applied @MinwaxUSA walnut gel stain
Now.. I know I was wrong to even try a dark stain on blonde mahogany but ya girl was desperate. So PLEASEESEE give me all your ideas on how to fix this!
And BTW when I say I was scammed... I mean I AM THE SCAMMER... I scammed myself lol

What was the scam? Are they fake Merton Gershun?
The amount of work to fix them up 😫
@@thefurnituredoctor ... that's not a scam
There’s a saying… “throwing good money after bad money”… I’d paint em & be done with it.
So you got the furniture for free, how was you scammed?
I didn’t realize how much work it would be 😫
@@mknowles2090 Not a scam. Disappointed maybe, but scam is not the correct word for your disappointment.
Have you considered maybe painting it blue?
🤦♀️
@Trammiliin • 🤭🤪😆
😂
🤣🤣
Not even funny.
You did a phenomenal job….can you remove the existing fluting on the drawer fronts and apply new fluting maybe??? 🤷🏾♀️I think even if you paint it, I believe those “pimples” will show through. I can’t wait to see how you’ll magically transform this piece with your genius idea!!!!
Was about to suggest the same
Hmmm maybe!
I would let the stain off again asap if at all possible. I know it is a pain. But the longer its on the worse it will get.
Once its off:kovwr with sheets to prevent dyst and let them be and just cgill. The go and have a look at the original design they were ment to be. Maybe this time You like them as they are and just get them as close as possible to the original as in a restore rather than a flip.
If you still want to flip then: a very dark brown stain can work with very light natural top and legs/bottom.
Good luck!
Thank you!!
Way more effort than I would have give. Well don!
I'd paint the drawer fronts and sides where the most color issue is and then try and get the top and edging to a nice stained wood if possible!
Thank you! Good ideas!!
You will find the solution as you learn more about the subject. Nobody is dead. You're not being sued. You don't have cancer. Relax and wait for the answer. It's out there. In the meantime, you are becoming an expert. Congratulations.
Thank you!
Dang. The comment I didn’t know I needed 😅
Please let us know what you eventually do with these. I would strip them again and use a light colored paint wash. I might consider replacing the fluting because the dots are not attractive.
I would remove the drawer fronts and put a laminate on it!
Good idea!
No scam if you didn’t pay anything.
Hahaha
I agree with the painting the middle section and the flutes. Maybe go with the a white or black. Using an airbrush to get in the dimples without plugging them up. The top and bottom sanded down and darker wax to bring out the wood and maybe hide the staining a bit.
Thanks!!
What about putting wood expoy or wood filler in all the pimples?
I should try
That's the reason they were painted instead of stained 😂😂😂😂 GOOD LUCK!
Thank you!!
You could lean into the stained pimples by leaving them as they are, and creating a safari theme with stencils, or decals, and paint on the sides and top. I know it sounds kind of goofy, but I follow a couple of furniture artists. I have a feeling they would see the front as an animal texture, and draw it out somehow.
Or, you could paint the darned thing a neutral and use gray wax to tone down the front. Good luck!
Ooo good idea!!
Hmm. What do you think caused the issue? Looks like the oil stain did not absorb evenly. Do you think a pre-stain wood conditioner would have prevented it?
Oh hmm maybe!
But I’m not sure why it didn’t absorb evenly
black in the front would look good 👀
Oh yes I like that idea!
Paint it girl
🥰
Paint them!!
Yes!!
It was a good video to see from her
🥰
Good job. ❤
Thank you 😄
Cut your losses. Paint the fluted part with dark paint and sell them for whatever you can get. Even if done well after another month, these will still be pretty ugly. Sorry. My two cents.
👍👍
Lighten the color
Good idea!
They would look super sexy in black
Like your thinking!
My 8 yr old daughter can do this.
Make her a UA-cam channel then
Honestly, I think paint might be your best option here. Black or dark grey.
I love this idea!
Remove stain and paint the drawer fronts black or whatever color is best look. You were so close. Hate when that happens.
I know right!!
Hello, I have been watching your videos for a while and I know that you do tremendous work, if you want to make them look like raw wood, those effects are also beautiful in my opinion, and the drawer would look more like paint... I hope it helps for a new idea! Can't wait to see how it turns out
🥰🥰
@@thefurnituredoctor you did it, they look awesome
