De atunci însă şi până în 2010, nu a mai existat nici un indiciu despre osemintele lui Mihai Viteazul. În 2010, călugării de la Mănăstirea Plăviceni au făcut o descoperire de excepţie, respectiv un schelet care se potrivea în ceea ce priveşte dimensiunile cu cel al marelui domnitor. Preotul a fost hotărât să facă un test ADN şi măsurători antopometrice ale oaselor descoperite folosind material ADN de la mama lui Mihai Viteazu, Teodora Cantacuzino, înmormântată la Mănăstirea Cozia.
Acum, supoziţia călugărilor de la acea vreme s-a adeverit, după ce a fost definitivat raportul medico-legal care atestă faptul că osemintele corespund ca mărime celor ale domnitorului, iar din cadavru lipseşte capul (care se află acum la Mănăstirea Dealul), dar şi celelalte elemente lipsă ale corpului.
