First time when I visited Palermo with my partner we stayed around Ballaro market which was amazing, interesting and very close to the sights of Palermo. Next time I visited alone as a solo female traveller I stayed at Politeama area and I loved it! Listen to this ragazzo everything he says it's correct 😃
We visited Palermo In November. We absolutely loved it. Fell in love with the local coffee Morettino. We are going back again this November & cannot wait!
Last month we stayed at Family Affair Palermo. Emanuela is a wonderful hostess and gave us lots of great information and suggestions for sights and places to eat in the city. Highly recommend.
Love your videos! Thank you for all of this very useful information. We have Best Western Hotel points and are thinking of using them for the Best Western Ai Cavalieri on Via Sant’ Olivia 8. It will be mid November of this year for a few days. It looks like it is just outside the Politeama Liberta. Is this street OK and what do you know about this hotel? I really appreciate your advice.
Ciao! Thanks so much for the kind words-glad you're enjoying the videos! About the Best Western Ai Cavalieri, the area is definitely safe. You're just outside Piazza Castelnuovo, which is basically our downtown. If you don’t mind walking, you can get to most places on foot, but you’ll need to be used to walking and enjoy it. The heart of the historic center, where everything happens, is Quattro Canti, and it’s about a 15-minute walk from your hotel. I haven’t personally stayed at this hotel, but I’ve had plenty of feedback from others who have. The location is great, but some rooms are a bit outdated and small-they could use a renovation. Wi-Fi can be hit or miss, and sometimes the service isn’t the most attentive. Overall, people are generally satisfied, but there’s definitely room for improvement. Hope this helps, and enjoy your stay in Palermo!
Ciao! Glad you loved the video. About La Zisa neighborhood, it really depends on where exactly you're talking about. Personally, I'm not a big fan of staying in La Zisa. It's not a neighborhood where I'd choose to book a hotel. Sure, it has some cool spots like the Zisa Castle, which is a UNESCO site, and the Zisa Cantieri Culturali where they often have events and concerts. However, for a tourist, it doesn't feel the safest at night. If you plan on walking back to your accommodation late, you might not feel 100% secure. I'd recommend looking for other areas to stay in. Hope this helps!
Will be there for the first time in May. Been a few times to Italy but never Sicily.Very excited to go. Staying at Hotel Quattro Conti which I assume is in the heart of the old city.
I have booked the Hotel Quattro Conti for my father who is visiting Sicily in June. He loves Italy and has wanted to visit Sicily for so many years. I hope your trip in May is great fun!We Are Palermo and Nico - great videos!! So much info without the video being an hour and without being rushed. So nice!
Just came back from Sicily and loved it. Palermo is raw, vibrant and historical. Everywhere was packed at night, and this was early May. The hotel is right in the middle of everything with a great outdoor rooftop terrace. I'm sure your father will enjoy.
Ciao! It's pretty safe to walk from the Historic Centre to Politeama after a night out. The main streets are usually bustling with people, even late at night, so you don't feel uneasy or anything
I loved this video! We are visiting this fall and are so excited. We are staying in La Kalsa, on Via Lungarini 48. Is there area ok and not too close to the train station? Thank you!
Ciao! You're going to have an amazing time this fall. Via Lungarini is really close to Piazza Marina, which is a lovely spot. No worries, it's a safe neighborhood and not too close to the train station. Enjoy your trip ;)
Wow Nico! I love all your videos! I will be retry to Palermo after 40 years! We are looking at the Politeama Luxury Suites. I know it is not in your list but do you have any “local” insight on this hotel? I appreciate your help!
Ciao! It's great to hear you're heading back to Palermo after 40 years - the city has definitely changed a lot. About the Politeama Luxury Suites, I've never personally stayed there, but I've heard some positive things about it. Location-wise, it's spot on. It's close to the Politeama Theater, and if you're up for a bit of a walk, you can get to Teatro Massimo in about 10 minutes. That's where the historical city center begins. From there, it's only another 10 minutes to the Quattro Canti, which is like the heart of the old town. To get the best experience, I suggest walking along Via E. Amari, then heading to Piazza Castelnuovo, and taking Via Ruggero Settimo until you reach Teatro Massimo. These are all pedestrian streets and make for a really pleasant walk. It's honestly the best way to soak in the vibe of Palermo. Just a heads-up, the area around the B&B is pretty safe, but I'd avoid the back of the building at night, where the Borgo Vecchio market is. It might be interesting during the day, but at night, it's not exactly the best crowd. Hope this helps, and have an amazing trip!
Is the Palazzo Ventimiglia Suites in Palermo in a good area? Should I have any concern? A few I know rare about that place that it is really nice. I wanted your opinion. Thank you. Love your videos!
Palazzo Ventimiglia Suites is on Via Vittorio Emanuele, one of Palermo's main streets. It’s a great spot to stay - a beautiful pedestrian street that’s lively day and night, with people walking around constantly. It’s safe, no worries there. As for the place itself, I’ve never stayed there, but I’ve visited it. A lot of people from the WeArePalermo community have stayed and told me they had a great time. The only thing I’ve heard is that the Wi-Fi isn’t the best - but honestly, that’s pretty common in hotels here in Italy. Hope this helps, and thanks for the love on the videos!
Nice Video Nico thank you 😁 i am looking for a AirBnB in Via della Loggia 90133. is it a Great and Safe Spot for me and my wife ? We visit Palermo in September for the First time I hope u can help me ❤️
@@Gianluca-e1x Ciao! Via della Loggia is just off Corso Vittorio Emanuele, one of the main streets in Palermo. It’s a small street that leads to the Vucciria market from Corso Vittorio Emanuele. This area is generally considered safe. However, keep in mind that it can be noisy at night, especially on weekends. I’d recommend checking if the B&B has good soundproof windows to block out the noise. I don’t know the specific B&B, but the area is considered safe overall ;)
I saw holiday appartments. But what about long term letting? Looking for somewhere safe but reasonably price.Tried idealista etc and nobody responding as a single lady want to feel safe any ideas please?
Unfortunately, most apartments in Palermo are managed by real estate agencies, and the only way to find long-term rentals is through sites like Idealista or Subito.com. The problem is, not all agents speak English, so when they see a message in English, they often just don’t reply. I totally get how frustrating this is - I’m on your side, and yeah, it sucks, but that's just how it is here. What I’d recommend is calling them directly. Sometimes, they’ll put someone on the phone who speaks English, or you can at least set up an appointment to view the apartment. Locals here usually call, check out the apartment, and if they're interested, go to the agency to make an offer. It’s a hassle, I know, but calling might be your best shot. Good luck!
Hi Nico! I had a question, are there busses that go from the city center to mondello? The city centers seems like a nicer place to stay, but visiting the beach would sure be fun too!
Ciao!Yeah, you can catch the direct bus number 806 from the Politeama-Libertà neighborhood right to Mondello and back. It's super convenient for a day trip to the beach from the city center. Just a heads up, the bus runs more frequently during the warmer seasons than in winter, so you'll have an easier time catching it if you're visiting when it's warm out!
I appreciate your videos as we are planning our trip now. Before I watched your videos we studied and booked the Grand Hotel Wagner. Do you have any comment on our choice? Thanks
Grazie mille for your kind words about my videos! I'm glad they've been helpful in planning your trip. Regarding your choice of the Grand Hotel Wagner, I think it's an excellent choice. The hotel is in a great location for exploring the city and is situated in a very safe and quiet area, even late at night. They have made significant improvements in terms of service and the hotel has been recently renovated as well. There might be minor inconveniences, such as occasional WiFi issues or small hiccups here and there, but overall, it remains an outstanding hotel. I hope you have a fantastic trip, and if you have any other questions or need more information, feel free to reach out. A presto ;)
@WeArePalermo Great! You have put me at ease with our choice. I will surely end up watching your entire video series on Sicily. It is insightful getting advice from a Sicilian rather than someone that just visited there a time or two. Thanks again! Ed
Hi Nico, neighborhood Capo market is bad area for vacation? I have book Kardía apartment in Vicolo Abbadia 8. I have to cancel the reservation? Thank you. Your videos are perfect!
Ciao! Thanks for the kind words about my videos. About your question, Vicolo Abbadia 8 cuts right through Capo market. You're in the "touristy" part of the market, which I wouldn't describe as dangerous, especially during the day when it's bustling with people. It's a very characteristic place, and I recommend visiting it. However, at night, it's not exactly where I'd send a friend to stay. Late at night, if you're coming back from a night out, it's not exactly frequented by Palermo's nobility, to use a euphemism. Also, consider that it could get noisy early in the morning due to the market. If you decide to stay there, make sure the apartment has excellent soundproofing, as the market noise can be a real issue if the windows aren't soundproofed. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank you very much for perfect answer. I canceled it. I find two apartments now. First 27 Via del Parlamento and second 56 Via Giardinaccio. Its good location for you? Can you help me choose, please?
I would definitely go for Via del Parlamento. You’re between Via Vittorio Emanuele (one of the main areas) and Via Alessandro Paternostro (cute old alleys with nice bars). Super safe day and night. You can come back late at night, and there will always be a lot of people around ;) Hope that helps!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! As for Alle Antiche Mura di Ballarò, you'll be in a safe area, so no worries. You'll be close to the Ballarò market, yet far enough from its main streets. Since you're in the historic center, some streets might not be very well-lit, but there's no need to worry. Just take the regular precautions you would take anywhere else, and enjoy the city without fear. You'll be just fine! ;)
Thanks so much for posting these videos! They are extremely helpful! I am planning to visit Palermo this winter. I am wondering is it okay to come in December? Will restaurants and stores be open? Do you recommend any day trip from Palermo in winter? I really appreciate it! Thank you
Ciao Linda, I'm glad you found the videos helpful! Visiting Palermo in December is absolutely fine. Restaurants and stores will be open, and the city will be lively, especially during the holiday season. Just keep in mind that the Mondello beach area might not be as active during the winter months, particularly at night. Buongiorno! Thank you for all your tips on Palermo! We will be staying in Palermo in April and will be staying at the B&B Angolo 83 on Via Roma 83. Can you tell me if this is a nice area? I have read that it is close to the Historic Center. Also, We were told that we can park for free on the street behind the property or there is guarded parking for a fee or the garage called "Autorimessa Aidamicristo" via Garibaldi, 41 or Via Magione, 42. Can you tell me what you would advise? If we park the car in a garage we do not want to leave our car keys with anyone since it is a leased car. Grazie mille.
Buongiorno! The B&B Angolo 83 on Via Roma 83 is actually located within the historic center, just 5 minutes away on foot from the Quattro Canti (Four Corners), which is the heart of the city. You'll be able to walk to the major attractions without having to use your car. When it comes to parking, I'm afraid you can't park directly on Via Roma street, but there are some side streets where you can park for free. Please keep in mind that this is a ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone) area, and you'll need to purchase a daily pass to drive or park within this area. To learn more about ZTL in Palermo, I recommend reading this article: wearepalermo.com/news/vehicle-parking-palermo/. In terms of private parkings, it's common for them to ask for the key of the car, as they have limited space and need to move the car around.
