Thanks so much for watching! Be sure to check out my followup video on how to find your first clients as a music producer: ua-cam.com/video/PIhpho5oPwU/v-deo.html.
Thanks Tom! I signed up about 2 months ago and did alot of this intuitively, I am currently on 11 reviews and charging crazy low prices to try and get to the front page!
That’s so awesome! I’m glad to hear it’s working for you so far. That’s definitely the move. I did the same thing. Once you get that returning client base you can start moving closer to charging what you’re worth! Keep playing the long game. Thank you for the comment!
@Emma Harrop I totally feel that! I’ve always had a hard time with that as well. But it does get easier over time as you begin to be more honest and objective with yourself about the value you can provide to others.
Great info Tom! I've been using SB for years, but only as a resource to hire singers and musicians. Unfortunately, I slept on it for trying to get work, but no more. Thanks so much for laying it all out. Now I have to check out the rest of your channel. (subbed) 👍
Your videos are informative and you seem to genuinely share everything you know. That's both impressive and a source of good karma :) Greetings to you from Egypt.
Thanks so much for this comment! I’m glad my intention translates. I definitely want to be as transparent as I can and share what I know. I want to see others succeed. I think there’s plenty of opportunity for all of us!
some advice for a non-english speakers? (i know the language, but is not my mother-language) for example, some of my service are close to songwritter, but i don´t see much people from latinamerica or spanish speakers, for example. I think i will forced to start to writte music in english :c. I will be grateful for a advice 🙏🙏🙏
My thought is you may actually find more success if you lean into a Spanish-speaking customer base. There's no way you're the only Spanish speaker on the platform. Certainly there are others looking for help in their native language!

It’s honestly great for everybody, no matter what your skillset is. Songwriting, mixing, vocals, mastering, producing, session musicians - lots of successful people in different areas on there. Thank you for the useful information. I would like to know if you have a forum where we can have further discussions. Additionally, I would like to know how many days after delivery they make the payment.
We have a Discord server, but that is mainly for music marketing stuff. The client generally pays when they're happy with the files. If not, you can always ask!
Hey Tom, amazing video. When you recommended routing your current business through soundbetter, would you get your clients to contact you via the site, or did you send them an invite? If so, how do you send invites as I don't know how to do this, can't seem to find this (is there a way to invite people that aren't yet on soundbetter or would you need them to contact you?
Hey thanks for watching! There is an option inside SoundBetter to invite your clients directly via email. That’s what I’ve done in the past. I don’t remember exactly where it is but if you look for it, it’s there.

hi tom, thanks for the video! really helpful, only just learned about sound better but am really inspired to give it a go. how important do you think nicheing is? i find it really hard to decide on a niche cause i have quite a few styles , and also a few disciplines. is it worth having more than one profile ? but i guess this spreads you too thin plus you would have to pay for multiple premium profiles?
Hey! Yes, it totally is. They have changed the wording and now refer to it as an “endorsement”, which makes me believe they’d like to see it used it more as a one-time thing instead on a job-by-job basis. All that being said, yes, you can absolutely send outside people to SoundBetter to leave you a review without having worked through the platform. Thanks for the question!
This video was super helpful. What if you never had any clients before singing up for Soundbetter? How do you get clients off of the platform? Could you do a video on this?
Great video Tom! Are you able to start out on a basic membership and then apply for a premium membership in the future? Does the $40 monthly fee occur once you are approved, or are you charged the $40 fee just for applying for the premium membership in general?
Yes! You can start and maintain a basic membership for as long as you want. And you can apply for premium whenever you want to as well. You won’t get charged until you are accepted as a premium provider. Thanks for watching!
In order for your clients to leave reviews on Soundbetter would they have to be members of the website? Can non-members leave reviews on your Soundbetter page and if not how do you go about approaching clients to register to do so?
Kyle Krysa what Being Beelyta said is absolutely right. You can have previous clients leave a review for you in the form of an endorsement without having to join the site if they don’t want to.
@@pete4ism a lot of factors. Firstly, the average cost per job that is hired and completed is much higher on SoundBetter and more in line with my space in the market as a provider. Pricing on AirGigs is far too low due to providers’ attempts to beat the competition. All that ends up happening is a race to the bottom in terms of price and, therefore, a reduction in the integrity of the market as a whole. It’s not a sustainable revenue stream. Secondly, the means of communication, bidding, creating, and completing work is much more integrated and efficient on SoundBetter. Their system is simply more streamlined and effective. They also have a built-in layer of security for both provider and client that protects both in the event of disagreement. All native to how they structured their system from the beginning. And thirdly, AirGigs not only takes a larger cut of earnings, but they also take waaaaaay longer to process payout for work completed. This coupled with the already-lower earnings dictated by the market on the platform make it underperform compared to SoundBetter. Of course, this is all through the lens of using both platforms to earn. As a musician looking to hire others, I’ve only ever used SoundBetter, so I’m afraid I can’t really make a comparison from that perspective. Thanks for the question!
