Samboy started the skywalking (hang-in-the-air and dunking) trend in Pinas basketball(dunking was rare at that time).....but the real and better skywalker was vergel...He mastered what Samboy started. *note: Paul Alvarez started the power slum dunking trend... Vergel was a hybrid of Samboy and Alvarez...he was better than the two, but his reign was short-lived...and Samboy loyalists wouldnt accept any other skywalker unfortunately..thus Vergel was underrated for his talent

It was like an influx of great sports and music. If I can recall Vergel Meneses, Luisito Espinosa and the Eraserheads were ubiquitous during that year.I think by analogy the Sunkist of yore is like the Dallas Mavericks of today, they jelled but unfortunately imploded.The talent was ineffable but the chemistry came to a screeching halt.

Mon Fernandez was the most intelligent PBA player ever..Samboy the most popular(because of his death-defying attacks and kind personality)..Jawo the one with the craziest fans...but in terms of acrobatic athleticism, effectiveness and entertainment- I think Vergel is the best PBA player ever...quite underrated though..pero bakit pinag-retire agad? did he get injured?

Sadly, his potential was not fully realized.He was a great individual player skill-wise but it seems he could not fit perfectly into a scheme of things in terms of longevity.Derek Pumaren tried to maintain the engines but it was meant to crumble.I respected Alaska, they took their two heartbreaking losses from Sunkist like men and then carved their dynasty. Sunkist became a masterpiece reduced to shit.

One of The Best in Isolation, together, with Ramon "El Presidente " Fernandez. Pag isolation o lowpost si Vergel Meneses at Mon Fernandez mga Maestros Dito. Ang sarap panuorin ni Vergel Meneses Lalo na sa open court at pag nag shake and bake move or Head and shoulder Fake na siya. Sigurado, iwan na agad ang kalaban. Me outside shooting din siya at high percentage sa freethrow kasi Maestro siya ng Foul-bating. He can draw fouls one after the other sa mga defenders niya. Sadly, his potential was not fully realized.He was a great individual player skill-wise but it seems he could not fit perfectly into a scheme of things in terms of longevity.Derek Pumaren tried to maintain the engines but it was meant to crumble.I respected Alaska, they took their two heartbreaking losses from Sunkist like men and then carved their dynasty. Sunkist became a masterpiece reduced to shit.
According to Ron Jacob , he was the most talented player ever born played in the PBA.

My Idol, Vergel "Aerial Voyager " is The Most Exciting PBA Player in PBA History. Siya yung Michael Jordan at Kobe Bryant ng PBA. One of The Best in Isolation, together, with Ramon "El Presidente " Fernandez. Pag isolation o lowpost si Vergel Meneses at Mon Fernandez mga Maestros Dito. Ang sarap panuorin ni Vergel Meneses Lalo na sa open court at pag nag shake and bake move or Head and shoulder Fake na siya. Sigurado, iwan na agad ang kalaban. Me outside shooting din siya at high percentage sa freethrow kasi Maestro siya ng Foul-bating. He can draw fouls one after the other sa mga defenders niya. Sana pag aralan ng isa ko pang Idol na si Kobe Paras ang style ni Vergel Meneses lalo yung low post move at one on one isoltaion play. Kapag na develop ni KP 6 KOBE PARAS yung low post move like Vergel Meneses, magiging successful siya hindi lang sa PBA kundi Sa NBA na pinapangarap niya. ang mga kabataan noon halos focus sa sports particularly basketball, kahit saang kalye may baskeball ring..kahit alas 12 ng tanghale naglalaro pa rin kami ng basketball pagkatapos manonood ng pba.. ngayon, wala na masyado, puro na lang computer ang mga kabataan ngayon..nakakamiss talaga ang buhay noon.

Wala na yung mga ganitong klaseng mga players ngayon sa PBA.the talents terribly declined thru the years.the PBA were so much fun to watch back then.let start off with the high flyingnguards with the likes of The Flying A Johnny Abarrientos,Boybits Victoria,the exciting high leapers like Kenneth Duremdes,Mr.Excitement Bong Alvarez,the one and only and my idol the Skywalker Avelino Samboy Lim,and of course the Aerial Voyager himself Vergel Meneses.isama mo na rin dyan ang mga power forwards na nag bibitin din sa ere like the Bull Nelson Asaytono and of course si Noli the Tank Locsin at ang Tower of Power na c Benjie Paras!!the names i mentined were only a few who made the PBA very entertaining to watch back then.and of course nandyand din ang mga enforcers special mention si the Destroyer Rudy Distrito.nakakalungkot na napakarami na mgam filams ngayon na naglalaro instead of this homegrown talents.filams na himdi naman matin alam kung tunay ba o hindi.ang dami daming mga home grown talents na gusto maging PBA player bakit hindi sila gawin priority instead sa mga filams na to.nakaka miss ang dating PBA.ang PBA na pumatok talaga sa pusot isipan ng mga mamayang Pilpino ay iba na sa dati!!

1995 nung peak ni meneses isa syang scoring machine. normal lang sa kanya 30 pts. game nun. pag isolation play sure 2 points na kapag hindi mo siya double team.
according to ron jacob, if sana point guard ang nilaro ni vergel meneses, he could be the best point guard in asia. he can pass, he can dribble, has the moves, and definitely has the height advantage kahit chinese point guard pa ang kalaban.
