I love that you filmed on your deck- beautiful background. I think I need to track my DNFs, too. I think I've gotten pretty good at choosing books that I'll finish, but every now and then there's a DNF. So keeping up with them might help me see why I don't like them. Funny because I loved Mansfield Park so much more the second time around as well.
Yeah, I think MP has to grow on you a little bit. 😆 I really enjoy sitting on my deck in the summer (morning and evening anyway, not the middle of the day!).
One reason i have difficulty with doing a lot of challenges is that i often end up picking up things I'm not as interested in, so i can understand what you mean with that. It sounds like you’ve had a good reading year so far! I've been quite satsfied with my reading.
Yes, finding the balance is tricky. I used to only mood read, but then I was always dissatisfied with my reading choices in the end because I mostly read what was easy and only occasionally challenged myself. So then I slowly started doing reading challenges to help me branch out... but there's definitely a line where the reading challenges overtake the reading and it becomes about the goals rather than the pleasure of reading. Some months I do better at balance than others.
My goal was to slow down and read more classics and I definitely feel like I’m meeting that goal. And I feel like it’s changing the kind of reader I am. I’m tasting good literature and so I’m finding myself dnf’ing a lot of modern reads because it’s lacking the depth. It’s very interesting, but I like it! ☺️
That is so true! The more classics I read, the more I want to read them. And the more brain candy I read, the more brain candy I want to read. 😆 The same thing happens to me with food, too. 😆
I had no complaints about The Hound of the Baskervilles, my favorite Sherlock Holmes. I chose it as a novel for a Lang Arts class I taught and was so pleased that it went over splendidly. Have you read any of the short stories? Tell me if you would like a suggestion.
I found The Hound of the Baskervilles to be very enjoyable. I'm sure I have read other Sherlock Holmes stories but it's been a long time. I have a volume of them that I'm going to start working through.
It was great to hear your update. I have really been enjoying my reading this year. I can relate to what you said at the end about reading what you want to be reading. I made a list of 40 books I want to read before I turn 40 next year. It’s mainly to encourage me to get to books that I have been putting off because I tend to grab whatever sounds good at the time but don’t make as much progress on the books I really want to read. Happy summer reading!
I love the idea of 40 before 40. It's too late for me, but maybe I should do 50 before 50? I should do it now because then it will give me more than 5 years to get to it... great idea!
I tend to be a quick reader, so one of my goals this year is to savor my reading. I choose my favorite(s) of the month and then scrapbook in my reading journal. This has given me more time to linger on the story and enjoy it again. Also, I did not set a numeric goal this year and I am loving that. My favorites so far this year have mostly been classics with the exception of Born of Gilded Mountains.
Oh I like that - to savor your reading. And I like your idea of scrapbooking it. I didn't always set number goals, but I like it currently. That is subject to change. 😆 Yes, the classics always sit deepest and move the most.
I totally forgot to include The Letter Tree in my Disappointments in my checkin video. I guess it just didn't come to mind because I was only thinking of bad books lol
I like hearing about your progress this year as I've only recently gotten involved in the book tube world 😅. Your comment about "truly wanting to read the book" is making me think... I don't read quickly or very much so I should be extra choosy😅. I like your journal 📓📑!!
Thank you! My reading life has definitely fluctuated and changed and morphed throughout my life. DIfferent seasons call for different approaches. Right now, I really just want to read the books I want to read but "never get to". I can't wait forever, because there's only so much time!
Ha! Dead trees all over our neighborhood. They're all on common property so the HOA is responsible for clearing them. They did mark one of them (probably the one you saw in the video), so hopefully will be taking it down at some point this summer.
@@insearchofwonder oh an HOA that will actually do something good. 😂 Anyways the deck is a great spot for your videos... Very calming... My 2 cents anyways.
Mansfield! 🥰🥰🥰
I love it!

Oh yes, another Mimi Matthews lover! I don't understand why I don't run into more of those on booktube, I think she writes such good love stories ❣
Yes! I love her books so much.
I loved the location of this video! Just perfect for summer. 💕
Thank you! I really like filming out there as opposed to inside.
I've read so much more than I thought I would, which is both a good and bad thing 😅
LOL I know exactly what you mean!

I don't think Cormac McCarthy will be for you.... he's really dark. 😅 I've read all of his works.
I don't mind dark.... to an extent! We'll see!
I need to read The Hounds of Baskerville! Love your deck!
I enjoyed it more than I expected to, for sure. Looking forward to reading more Sherlock HOlmes .

💯 agree ladies!! They make me look for better writing and prose in non classics.

But oh no! GOdmersham Park is on my long list, on the shelf... 😝do i want to find your why dnf video or stay in ignorance and hope for bliss? Hmmm :P
Oh you might love it! Many people do. Give it a try and see what you think.
Ooh, yay! I just got the Sophie Irwin and have that on my short list TBR... glad to hear it was a good one!
Yes, I want to read some more by her!

Fun book tracker in a bujo (or planner, whatever you personally call yours) 😊

Yeah it wasn't bad just not as good as I expected.
I love data, statistics, and informative videos like this. Great video!
Good, glad you enjoyed!
Another vote for getting to Scarlet Pimpernel!
yes! I need to! I want to! I just haven't. 😔
You need to read Scarlet Pimpernel!!!

Love your deck!
Thanks! We recently freshened it up a little so I enjoy sitting out there.
Oh no, The Letter Tree is on my TBR!! I'm nervous now!!!!!
So many people loved it, I'm sure you will, too!
@@insearchofwonder I don’t love historical tho… I might still try it , who knows lol
Great update and I love the deck location! Just a heads up... I see a dead tree in the back ground. 🤣
