  • For small people like me, larger camera bags can be awkward. Well, not this one. It goes from super slim to a normal backpack size at the most- all while being able to carry a seriously decent amount of camera gear in typical ThinkTank fashion.

    Very nice review, Appreciate the effort you went to, describing this setup. I have just purchased one myself, for a big trip around Tokyo & Japan also... very flexable bag..

    Got v1 of this bag. Love the straps. Don’t like lack of bottle pocket and no space for camera with lenses attached and not great quick access

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 років тому

      Yeah it's definitely not the bag for that. For quick access a messenger style or ThinkTank's Turnstyle would be a bit better, or of course another brand. The best "quick access" bag I've found so far for me is the Peak Design Everyday 20L, but it has it's frustrations as well.

    Problem with this design is if it get a knock or kick it damages gear.

    It's that Bruins hat Scott. Makes you an outsider anywhere but new England. Great video, looks like a nice bag.

      Haha, yeah I have to get a winter style Bruins hat too! And thanks as always :)

    Fair point , but I lock mine on but we all learn and that’s a hard pill, $$$$$ 💪😉

    Well you can always take off the lens hood, that would make it much smoother. I mean the hood takes about 1.5 seconds to screw back on

      I've had lens caps get squeezed off and scratch the lens in bags before, cost a few hundred dollars to fix, which is why I like keeping the lens hood on in my bags whenever possible.

    Would be a great backpack for me but the biggest downside for me with it is it's weight which is about 2kg by itself. Right now I'm sticking to my PeakDesign everyday 20L.
    I liked your mount for the GoPro, got myself something cheap from Aliexpress but the most funny thing I ended up using something else! My GoPro is connected to a short extendable tripod, it's like a handle when it's not extended and it actually goes into the shoulder pass for sunglasses and sits there perfectly, very easy to move from mounted near the chest to holding or putting it

      To be completely honest with you I'm shocked to hear that 2kg weight haha... after using it it definitely didn't strike me as weighing that much and I never noticed the spec itself. I love the PeakDesign Everyday 20L as well... one of the handful of bags I use on a regular basis, but I often wish there were more pockets like this has all over the outside.
      That's a great idea with the mini tripod sliding right in there on the shoulder! Very simple and easy. I had another mini tripod with one of the magnetic receivers on top of it too, so I could switch this over to a handheld setup like that fairly quickly so I can see the appeal for sure :)
      Thanks again for watching and commenting! Always good to hear from you :)

      @@ScottDumas Lol, I really liked that bag but when I saw the weight I was also shocked, The peak design itself isn't the lightest, I really love it but whenever I get some groceries or want to add a jacket or something I have no more space. would be perfect if they'd add some compartment between the laptop and the camera places that can expand when needed, would really make it the perfect bag for me. Well I'm going to fly abroad with it for the first time next month and I'll see how it goes. But honestly for someone like you (with the gear you use and since you didn't notice the weight here) I'm surprised you are not using the 30L version.

      Haha yeah- I hate bulky backpacks so I went for the 20L. I've used it to travel (both internationally and domestic) quite a lot and it's incredible. Not super organized because of the small number of pockets, but I've still loved it. I did love this Shape Shifter as well, but it's completely different. Like apples and oranges :)

    Nice in-depth review, which I’ve been watching while waiting for the courier to arrive with my Shapeshifter 15 V2 (which he just has!). I know a lot of press photographers in the UK and this is the only bag that many of them will consider using, it’s that good. Don’t forget, you can also use the Thinktank Pro Speed and Thin skin belts with this bag to add additional lens pouches etc. Btw great shout re the Black Rapid backpack strap - that looks like an essential for me - I’ve been using a Peak Design Slide but it’s not perfect for my needs. What was the make of the Go Pro shoulder strap mount? I couldn’t make out what you said? As for the Shapeshifters 2kg weight, well I haven’t actually noticed this spec until I saw your video - I’ll be using a Lumix G9 mirrorless system with this bag so that should offset the bags weight :-). Cheers.

      Hey thanks so much, and I hope you love the bag once you get it :)
      The BlackRapid is great- only downside is that it's hard/awkward to take your bag off or get something from it after attaching the strap. With some practice it can be done though :)
      As for the GoPro mount, it was a few parts put together from 9.Solutions. They have some magnetic quick mount parts that can be used for a huge number of things, including of course GoPro :) I highly recommend them!
      Thanks again for watching! :)

      Yes I could see that would be a problem but looks like a great solution for city/travel walk-rounds, sport and music photography which I do. Plus with another Breathe and camera on the other side you wouldn't need to get into the bag! Thanks for the link, I've just found a company here in the UK that stocks 9 solutions 👍

    Good overall, but why don’t you reverse you petal shades instead of having them sticking out?

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 років тому

      Sorry, I feel like I'm probably missing something super obvious, but I'm not sure what you mean here?

    • @davidgreen3563
      @davidgreen3563 5 років тому

      Scott Dumas Hi It was probably me in that I used the words petal shades, instead of lens hood. So reverse the lens hood and you save space.🤔👌😉

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 років тому

      @@davidgreen3563 Ah! Got it haha, sorry about that. The thing with that is the lens hood being that way is the height or length isn't the issue... it's the width, and the width of the hood would be the same reversed or not. I like keeping them on when possible too, because I've had a cap get pinched off inside a bag before and end up scratching up the front glass costing a few hundred to repair :(

    The chest strap not easily removable? Just use scissors :)

      Not exactly the point haha ;)
