This episode was great, I loved the equal air time from all three of them, and everyone helping each another with their abilities. Great teamwork, despite not even being teammates!
use a long peice of threaded rod on the bottom axles to span the chassis. Then use some aluminum or carbon fiber tube over the threaded rod to stiffen the chassis.
Yes, people are allowed to learn. I'm actually watching these video's since I'm learning a lot of it. But how can I learn from someone who doesn't even has an idea of how to control an Arduino wirelessly... Am I not allowed to learn?
I really like this idea. Half wondering if it would work as a weekend competition for conventions. Announce a chassis a week before the event so people can prepare their plans. They get the robot Friday night, can build, 3D print parts, and so on through Saturday, then you have a design judging contest on Saturday before starting the battles.
They make brushed speed controllers in the RC hobby (more so for RC cars). So you could use the PWM signal to control those motors. I don't know if that DXe can do the channel mixing though.
Just google it. they're on aliexpress (helps they mentioned it came from China): www.aliexpress.com/item/tank-Robot-DIY-Chassis-Smart-track-with-two-carbon-brush-motor-for-Stainless-steel-tanks-t100/32612672364.html
+theHeckwithKaren thanks. I like that you didn't advertise them in the episode, actually. Cheap kits with no instructions shouldn't get too much free advertising.
I would like some help in getting an amateur radio digital dvmega board to work on rpy v3 with gsm module at the the same time. gsm for data only for the py
Surely the microcontroller is completely unnecessary, if you turn on delta/elevon mixing then the receiver would be able to control the tank drive system directly assuming that the motor controller takes a pwm input.
Felix's is this one right here: www.sinoning.com/metal-aluminum-alloy-smart-car-tank-chassis-kits-crawler-tracked-vehicle-chassis-robot-chassis-wali.html.html
Hey Ben, next time you guys do this, you should measure your bolts that you used for the axles of your 'wheels' and then put threaded rods that run the width of your robot. This would provide your 'sturdiness' that you were looking for and could even provide some more safety to the electronics.
No. He said he used the Kdevelop-IDE to write Arduino sketches, but still used the Arduino app for compiling by using the external editor preference setting.
way too much time addressing the camera - i feel like i'm watching a reality show where the contestants have to take 1-on-1 time with the camera to dish out the latest gossip. Please, more electronics and design, less talky talky.
Most new RC transmitters can be pared with the device they are meant to control. I realize their a little expensive. I still think this would have been the best option. I race and fly all the time and I've never had a problem with other radios taking control of my RC models.
That was our original intention. Felix really wanted to experiment with different RC options, so we let him try to homebrew different things rather than just buy them all.
I'm just waiting for Felix to show up with a bot that shoots 6 foot flames in ep. 2. Popping balloons before the others can even get close. And maybe burning down the shop, we'll see if there's time for both.
ok, so this is the first time I have ever given a thumbs up to a tech video for a Star Trek reference. lol What will your robot be fueled by? Quadrotriticale ? ;)
A tank only beats J5 on a battle if it has next to no electronics, otherwise it will use that hacking antenna to take it over and do something mean and funny with it.
If you use a high power Blu-ray LASER which should be able to destroy all the balloons on your opponents bots, BTW why not use a VCR head-drum motor to drive a wheel that has foil razer blades on which spin around as 18000rpm and should be able to shred your opponents balloons.
I figured a best way to use servo signal to drive a motor , just open a cheap servo and take out the pcb inside , use the original servo motor pins as signal it works
I like listening to Felix for some reason, he's always so calm and collected.
One of the best episodes ever. Apart from the great technical aspects and challenge, it shows the chemistry between all.
This episode was great, I loved the equal air time from all three of them, and everyone helping each another with their abilities. Great teamwork, despite not even being teammates!
That karen face :P Shit just got real XD
?
5:50
Karen Intensifies...
Ok, so no one's gonna pick up on the fact that a guy called _Felix_ called his robot _Kitten_? :P
He's the real life _fix it Felix!_
...whenever he gets in a fix, he reaches into his bag of tricks...
Felix is the funniest out of the three.
shav muttley He's so different from when he first started! It's awesome :D
Mmmmm...cat food. :P
Karen's really growing on me. I think i'm slowly getting over the trauma of Alyson leaving the show. :-)
I LOLed so hard when Felix said "the same micro controller that is on the... Arduino" 22:02.
I like Felix's enthusiasm in this episode. Felix, you've come a long way, buddy.
A de-esser for Karens voice wouldn't be unusefull!
Sounds like Robot Wars, just without death and only minimal amounts of destruction.
That's what I thought.
It's clearly intentional.
+MrManBuzz Ruka
robot wars is back though in ben heck and on the BBC
UHS Productions It's from the VN so it's Luka :P VN > Anime
This was an awesome episode. Wish they were all like this!
use a long peice of threaded rod on the bottom axles to span the chassis. Then use some aluminum or carbon fiber tube over the threaded rod to stiffen the chassis.
I'm liking the more equal air time from all three of them.
I really think that it adds to the show
People aren't allowed to learn?
Yes, people are allowed to learn.

Can you post a link to those kits?
Just google it. they're on aliexpress (helps they mentioned it came from China): www.aliexpress.com/item/tank-Robot-DIY-Chassis-Smart-track-with-two-carbon-brush-motor-for-Stainless-steel-tanks-t100/32612672364.html
We bought them on sinoning.com.
+theHeckwithKaren thanks. I like that you didn't advertise them in the episode, actually. Cheap kits with no instructions shouldn't get too much free advertising.
Awesome. I would love to see build sheets with the completed projects!
how is the name from the transmitter and resiver what felix is using???
Ben do you think you could release the code for the Arduino on your bot I'm working on a similar robot
For controller board is it possible to use arduino esplora?
That's the episode I wanted from you guys please do more on robotics
Karen = the Kari Byron of the Ben Heck show!
can u send me the link to where Karen got her robot I want it
One of the best episodes
I think Karen needs a pop filter, them S'ss's!
Is it just me, or were there loads of fingers in front of the lens throughout the video?
Ben would you please make a video on reverse engineering a part from a photo the way you did with the top of your robot im using fusion 360 for cad
I would like some help in getting an amateur radio digital dvmega board to work on rpy v3 with gsm module at the the same time. gsm for data only for the py
Were can I get that robot kit from please
www.sinoning.com/
The bloopers at the end are great! Moar!
Surely the microcontroller is completely unnecessary, if you turn on delta/elevon mixing then the receiver would be able to control the tank drive system directly assuming that the motor controller takes a pwm input.
Where did you get the kits from?
Felix's is this one right here:

Try using the blynk app, it's amazing for controlling things wirelessly
Karen's weapon idea sounds interesting. She could even have the balloons attached to the center pole if the rules allow it.

11:34 Ben cuts a part, part goes flying and hits wall, Ben looks, "meh", continues.
Ben, I think the wheel screwed in that way so you put it on last so you can put the belt on easier.
Link to kits?
hi all
I would like to see you build a gamecube portable I have seen others build them on you tube, but I would like to see your take on it.
what about a plastic shark with a 2watt frickin laser
Is that C# what Felix is using to program?
No. He said he used the Kdevelop-IDE to write Arduino sketches, but still used the Arduino app for compiling by using the external editor preference setting.
Ah right! I should clean my ears out. :P
Oh, I'm not sure if he mentions it in the episode. I meant when I just walked over and asked him. I'm sure your ears are fine. :)
way too much time addressing the camera - i feel like i'm watching a reality show where the contestants have to take 1-on-1 time with the camera to dish out the latest gossip. Please, more electronics and design, less talky talky.
it's supposed to be a parody of Robot Wars.. are you stupid?
Excactly, if he had watched any Ben Heck videos he'd know that.
I like a variety of shows.
I agree
Its a parody of a reality show :P
linustechtips did something similar but with actual mariokart rc cars. cant wait to see this finished
next season up the ante by creating homemade / custom versions of a kit
..... Quadcopters hitting targets !
You should start a Battlebots team Ben!
Most new RC transmitters can be pared with the device they are meant to control. I realize their a little expensive. I still think this would have been the best option. I race and fly all the time and I've never had a problem with other radios taking control of my RC models.

Didn't channelsuperfun do this?
I use the NIBObee with the berry module so you can control the Robot with a RaspberryPi what's about this for the basic
i want to know what Felix is using to write the Arduino code, its clearly not the Arduino IDE
It's KDevelop. Presumably with the arduino plug in.
You are correct.
Kdevelop has one... Nice!
I laughed a lot with Ben taunting LMAO
I'm just waiting for Felix to show up with a bot that shoots 6 foot flames in ep. 2. Popping balloons before the others can even get close. And maybe burning down the shop, we'll see if there's time for both.
The site they got these kits from would appear to be sinoning dot com by the way
it's called robot wars here in the uk
ok, so this is the first time I have ever given a thumbs up to a tech video for a Star Trek reference. lol What will your robot be fueled by? Quadrotriticale ? ;)
Hurry up and make part 2 and 3 in lease
Karen is the only one with an appropriate t-shirt. Shame on the competition. Shame!
5:32 - Nice Dire Straits reference there.
would it be possible for u to make me a Bluetooth speaker for me if I send u the parts ben?
these r what I have bro
two small speakers and a Bluetooth mogul out of a Bluetooth speaker.
make more of this vids
A tank only beats J5 on a battle if it has next to no electronics, otherwise it will use that hacking antenna to take it over and do something mean and funny with it.
So what's going on with Felix and Ben? They used to do more stuff together.
This channel is getting more interesting!
Test?
Getting very very close to 500,000. Only about 200 more
Hackbot wars..... @The Ben Heck Show you should participate in BattleBots :D:D
registration.battlebots.com/
Great episode , love it :)
Here's me thinking Ben Heck was off the the UK to take part in Robot Wars!
Almost 500,000 subs!! Great work!
*This is really cool. Especially the remote controller made by xbees.*
I love Felix he's the best :v Also shout out to him for being a Linux man
I suspect Felix doesn't want to talk about his weapons because they violate some international arms control treaties.
How about a weapon that shoots darts?
23:44
i was skimping around. I took this COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTEXT.
If you use a high power Blu-ray LASER which should be able to destroy all the balloons on your opponents bots, BTW why not use a VCR head-drum motor to drive a wheel that has foil razer blades on which spin around as 18000rpm and should be able to shred your opponents balloons.
This is the thought I had :P
That's such a good idea. Love it!
Why is it still Wednesday??? XD
Oh, is it going to be Hackbots this Friday or will we have to wait another week?
We just love suspense. One more week. :)
“Laddie, don’t you think you should . . . rephrase that?”
give us part 2 tomorrow please :'(
hahha love the "mockumentary" style :D
Her shirt and hair change automatically! awesome!
just realized ben is the ultimate nurd
Yay! Thumbs up for the regrettable acting!
Why doesn't Felix just call Karen -- Karen?
'I had a similar problem as Mr Heckendorn' I can barely even pronounce that just say be
I really like felixes mono tone personality... seriously. :-)
this is basically robot wars. with balloons. actually that sounds pretty fun
This sounds epic
I like to think the 28 people who disliked this video are enemy engineers Ben vanquished on his path to fame.
WAIT? So who's running the CAMERAS?
Sweet shirt Karen! Michigan in da house! 😜
Woot!
Ladies and gentlemen,
This... is...
BATTLEBOTS!
Felix is like shy Obama.
+Reese Me haha maybe. Regardless Felix is the best.
sweet "troubles with tribbles" reference :)
Are flamethrowers allowed? That should work just fine ;)
I figured a best way to use servo signal to drive a motor , just open a cheap servo and take out the pcb inside , use the original servo motor pins as signal it works
Can you build a PlayStation that plays all the Sony consoles
Me thinks a high powered laser pointer might pop a balloon? Just a thought
Ben, you should put an electromagnet on your bot!
Love the reach shirt ben, the best game ever
5:50 Savage 😂
pls setup your mics right
I've built one project similar to this, but I used a Bluetooth mmdule to connect to a PS3 controler, worked great, I think Karen should try this ;)
I love Felix. Kitten for the win!
Who wants to place bets? Five bucks says Felix will win.
