Very similar to April's comment below, I am 47 years old, and I am taking my first college class, English 101. I am writing my first comparison and contrast essay on two amusements parks, Disney World and Universal Studios, using the block method. Thank you for doing an amazing job explaining the break down of the 4 paragraphs. I am SUPER nervous.
And the essay can only be 800 words.. YIKES!!

Glad the video was useful. I have not heard of the "chunking method" for the comparison contrast essay. Usually, when we refer to "chunking" with language, we use that term to explain how we break information down into smaller bits or "chunks" to make understanding faster and easier. Hope this helps!

what about if you were asked to write an essay on comparing and contrasting a subject, do you still include the compare and contrast in your introduction?
You need to include the topic that you will be comparing and contrasting in the introduction. Hopefully, this answers your question. Best of luck with your essay. You can do this!!

Yes. There are different types of essays - such as Compare/Contrast and Argumentative. Do you need to write one for school? If you watch our videos, hopefully they will give you the tools you need to write one. Keep trying. You can do this!

Hello, so is a block essay just a essay with four paragraphs?
When I taught it to my class, we just had 4 paragraphs. Hope this helps!
I wanna ask this method
If they asked me to write an essay out of 5 paragraphs
The first body paragraph about subject 1
The second body paragraph about subject 2
And the third body paragraph is it right if i write the similarities between these two subject??
When I taught it to my class, their papers only had 4 paragraphs. The introduction, similarities between the 2 subjects, differences between the 2 subjects, the conclusion.
If you need to write an essay with 5 paragraphs, I would probably suggest that you use the Point-by-Point method.

I am working on it (block method) right now. I am writing the second paragraph but it is difficult because having to introduce the other concept that is getting compared/contrasted is just dull to work with. Right? 😂

As for your paper - I believe what your teacher wants is for you to pick 2 things and show how they are different. For example, let's say I wanted to discuss the differences between Chicago and Houston. I would pick 3 ways in which they differ (geographic location, building structures, city layout) and give specific details about each of those.

A nice clear explanation. However, it's incorrect to say that something is "different than" something else; it's different 'to' or 'from' something else. You can use 'than' for comparatives such as bigger, smaller, faster 'than'.... Additionally, the correct sentence is 'show whether there were similarities, differences, or both'; not "was". I'll never understand American English. Just saying.
