- Guthrie Theater, Minneapolis, June 8, 1969 (Early show) - The last part of Shakin' All Over and the end an incredible concert. This part is a long Naked Eye-like tune (close to Woodstock). [Updated on September 11, 2010] Since I changed the names of the other two SAO parts, I thought it'll be nonsense to not change this one, so it's now Naked Eye.
1. Heaven And Hell
2. I Can't Explain
3. Fortune Teller
4. Tattoo
5. Young Man Blues
6. It's A Boy

20. Naked Eye
If only there was a higher quality version. Alas, it's still magnificent. A piece of musical treasure was captured.
Pete always downplays his own musical inventiveness but this is fascinating, and primal in places. Love the way Keith takes the lead at around the 5:50 mark -- he makes Pete's riff for him.
Spot on! -Well observed!
Man I think that's the earliest of naked eye I have ever heard
In his sweater vest, Pete looks like the local town librarian.
no idea they played there so long ago! the Guthrie is a great location
oh my god the who are amazing!
is this possibly the best guitar version of Naked Eye ive ever heard? maybe!
Yes it is! Roger damaged his voice during the concert so Pete decided to do another version of Naked Eye.
Awsome! Keep it real! +++++
Look at how long Pete's fingers are in the photo. If you want to be a accomplished guitarist, that is the first inescapable requirement of many
@1969thewho Thanks for cluing me in to this performance! Just blistering! Pete is just sick sick sick here! Hiwatt gain, Gibson P-90's, and the occasional stomp of the Fuzz that makes it seem like the whole electric grid is going to melt down.
Yes, yes, some of that was John- very low for Guitar
i always wondered how Roger felt like during these long-mindblowing-instrumental jams the used to do.
"How am I going to keep Moon away from my hotel room tonight?"
Must've been a bit tedious at times, but he seemed to be the consummate team player and also he genuinely thought the other three guys were the best in the business (which I concur with) so I'm sure his attitude was jam away dudes!
As heavy as anything at that time, power pop my White arse!
Wow, this is a version I have just discovered. Thank you so much for sharing.
Yes, Bloated Blimp fans, The Who was the better live band and, as someone else mentioned, this is as heavy as anything at the time.
Thomas Patrick Parker You are right, that was a tabloid hit on Pete and even the Police department did apologize to MR. TOWNSHEND afterwards But that kind of smear of a reputation how do you get it back because some want to believe in the worst in people sometimes - And that's why Roger and Pete have become blood brothers since - Roger went to the mat for Pete - and I fell bad that happened to Pete because it was an EMINENCE FRONT, " BULLSHIT."
This is typical Pete 69-70 so cool!! Ah heavy -the Blimp 4/69 Winterland- none heavier!
and he kept the vibrato bar on the guitar for this pic...
Very cool! Thanks.:)
Kevin here, absolutely mind blowing
@Fredrockroll Roger hurt his voice at this concert, and Townshend sang more than usual. Might also account for the long solos (although they are present in others concerts as well)
the begining is the riff from Naked eye...
Duh. It is Naked Eye. Masterpiece. Pete is a fucking genius. A pure. Fucking genius.
Could be the my generation medley.
Fuckin great
5:24 Castles Made of Sand?
Death Star version.
This recording is 6% too fast. In order to listen to it correctly you have to put it into a recording software program, go into a "change speed" (NOT "change pitch") feature and ender -6. Cassette recorders typically ran at different speeds and were notoriously inconsistent - therefore it is also probable that the player used here is not the one this show was recorded on. Recordings made on a recorder running too slow inevitably run too fast on a machine running at correct speed. Take it from someone who knows.
great observation - it does feel too high pitched, 'thin' and too high tempo
Sounds like Pete is mimicing Zepplin's "Dazed & Confused".
Heh. ""Zeppelin's" "Dazed and Confused". Cute.
(Two words: Jake Holmes.)
@@Jessica_Roth Mimicing is far different than ripping off. Actually, I don't actually know what I was thinking eight years ago. Whatever.
@@Jessica_Roth if you sincerely believe Zeppelin didn’t write any of their version for themselves that’s hilarious
@@Jessica_Roth Let me tell you, Zeppelin's version destroys everything about the Jake Holmes version. Every band began by covering their heroes' songs, Zeppelin just didn't give credit.
@@cutg2722 Well, aside from being impolite, that was rather criminal, which is why I don't cut Zepp any slack on the issue. Obvious differences in the finished product aside.
