A Codec does the compression and there are different Codecs available, SBC generally being the oldest and least efficent, AAC, Apt-X (HD) and LDAC are more efficent higher Quality codecs, but they cost money for licensing. To put it simply: 1. LDAC 2. LHDC 3. apt-X HD 4. AAC / apt-X 5. SBC BUT: The AAC implementation of Android devices was in the past and still is not optimal from manufacturer to manufacturer, i.e. AAC often sounds worse than SBC. In combination with Apple Music and iPhones in particular, AAC has the advantage that it does not have to be re-encoded but can be sent directly to the headphones, which is why AAC can sound better on iPhones. Meaning: In many cases it is advised to fall Back to SBC for your Bluetooth headphones on Android (can be done in Bluetooth settings for each Headphone), when other higher quality codecs are not available.
the Koss porta pros have been my new all time favorite headphones, all the pros of earbuds and headphones, and only two cons (for me), has a wire, and looks a little unique in public. definitely getting these for my friends against their will 👍

Porta Pros surprised me back in the day by how much the actually produce bass for the build and how well they are tuned for the price. Too veiled for me nowadays, but in case you don't want to spend one billion dollars on audio, you can just buy these (maybe a cheap dongle too) and be done with it. Used to drive these with the Moondrop Dawn.
Here I am thinking my KPH40 were the last Koss headphones I ever needed to buy. God, they nailed it this time, after the abysmal first non-wireless wireless Porta Pros. Incredible how they managed to put everything inside the almost unchanged design.
Watching this review i suddenly realized i am wearing my 15-year-old Portapros...w/ Yaxi pads! I like them for the office better than KPH40's because I think the Portapros sound better at lower volumes. I think the KPH40's need to be played louder to really shine. Pair either with the ifi Go Blu and love sound without spending a ton.
Ughhhh the NEED I have for this but in their black and gold edition to match my current pair or PortaPros. I yelled at you when you said to calm down, as if you can actually hear me. Lol. "THEY'RE TWS PORTAPROS!"
AAC has the same Bandwidth as SBC so no point expecting a significant better output. Only SBC and AAC is very unfortunate and a hard pass for me. If you listen to taiko drums and flute on a simple track sure it might be enough. But try more complicated or convoluted songs (pretty much any Punk rock song) and SBC will make a mess out of it. The informations that get lost while squeezing thru the codec can never be restored, it is not a matter of DAC, amplifier or driver quality. What is gone is gone. aptx HD would have been cool as it can be used on pc/ laptops.

A small piece of plastic, shaped with the file, and tiny bit of blue tack would keep you from voiding the warranty while still letting you keep the spring set to light
They should just release a version where you pay a bit more for LDAC, seeing as SBC and AAC just aren't that great. (People did it for MQA, so why not LDAC) I'd pay the extra to have a codec that isn't crap.
I have some of the Koss Portas and KHP whatever they are wired. Very cool. But I currently am rocking the wonderful VMODA BT Crossfades I bought like 3 yrs ago, and they are spectacular, so I just don't need these. Do these even have any power? The VMODAs have tons of power for BT phones. They are also comfortable all day long, literally no pressure or discomfort. Battery life is beyond belief.
@@denislemieux7294 The VMODAs? Not to my ears, they have some great bass, but they aren't like Beats the bass is controlled, tight, etc. more than deep and annoying. A bit of a low end emphasis but not too much. They also boast excellent mids for vocals, have a good soundstage of sorts, and the high end is even fantastic, not clashy or harsh at all. Overall I would describe the VModas as snappy and warm sounding. Bass is solid but never overwhelming. I have the Sennheiser Urbanite XLs, the bass on those is a lot deeper but not nearly as defined.
Listening to this review on my gen 1 porta pro wireless 🙂 these look to address the problems i have with the gen 1s. Edit - but also seems to raise new problems/concerns 😅
There's some cushions pads you need to check out for these... check them out to say if these are too thick or cool... if those others need more volume, these will be worse... but there is purple and the blue and red combo... or either or or black

I miss my kph30i’s, my favourite headphones but they broke at the headband, Koss replaced them for me for free three times but every pair broke in the same place. Now I use AirPods Pro’s. Maybe I should give these a go.
Zeos - quick question - is the type C to 3.5mm a dongle dac or is it an analog input? I.e. can you plug the type c end into a phone and the 3.5mm into like a bluetooth speaker and it WON'T work?? I'm assuming it's analog. And if so, that's the type of cable that you can use to make the dyson zone wired!

All SBC receivers have always supported this profile, no updates needed in receiver devices. Now LDAC... could still be relevant, but only if locked at max fidelity, i.e. 44.1 kHz/ 16-bit/ 909 kbps.

These sound way worse than the last Bluetooth version. I tried with all different bluetooth codecs. The one you mention helps, but still a lot worse than last version. :( Super sad, this form factor is so much better than the stupid cable around the back of your neck. Of well. My issue with these is the price. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 250BT that’s half the price and they sound great! The only criticism I have of them is that they are not suitable for video or gaming. The lag is too much. Speaking of which….. Why didn’t you conduct a lag test on these?
Just finished up with all these mods last night. The first time I put them back on, I realize one of the screws on one of the sliders has wiggled out, rendering the "main" slider pretty much broken. Haven't even listened to them yet, and already fucking fell apart. What is this quality?

I own a file... But sandpaper works too. Just gotta be careful not to scuff the metal. Don't want to make you r brand new portas ugly.
The easy solution for that is to add some masking tape over the metal parts before filing or sanding anything

Can you still detach the headband from the ears still, like with the wired one?
No because these have to be wired to the electronics. Didn't matter on the passive ones.

My issue with these is the price. I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 250BT that’s half the price and they sound great! The only criticism I have of them is that they are not suitable for video or gaming. The lag is too much.
Speaking of which….. Why didn’t you conduct a lag test on these?
The Lag went away yesterday. It seems to do as it pleases on my Sony.

I've had YAXI pads for PortaPro and Grado and they both sound muffled to shit. They are fine after coin modding.

Yep, listening to this on vacation on my $20 KSC75 and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Just finished up with all these mods last night. The first time I put them back on, I realize one of the screws on one of the sliders has wiggled out, rendering the "main" slider pretty much broken. Haven't even listened to them yet, and already fucking fell apart. What is this quality?

Just got these in and for me they sound weak compared to a wired pair running from my Qudelix even without eq.
