If one of those pine trees had a disease, would you treat the disease first And Made sure it was healthy before you Begun to prune it

None of the pine trees in the video are diseased but are quite healthy, so withholding pruning was not an issue in this case. Had they been diseased or stressed, yes, my pruning activities would have been slim too nil, to be sure. The only thing I would have done would be to remove dead wood. Other than that, we would have taken measures to reduce stress, promote growth and get them healthy again before pruning.

I'm new to this but others who do what you do refer to the style as Niwaki. Are they the same?

To the best of my understanding and based on my studies, niwaki is a Japanese term that means "garden tree" (niwa means "garden" and ki means "tree"). So in a general sense, niwaki refers to the care of all trees in the garden. However and specifically, niwaki refers to the cloud style of pruning as Jake Hobson explains in his book entitled, "Niwaki". On the other hand, sukashi (a less used Japanese word) specifically refers to pruning larger trees, not in a cloud (or pom pom) style, but in a more open and natural style and is akin to bonsai but with larger trees. This is my best understanding of the differences between these two terms. If someone reading this is a Japanese garden craftsman or has been trained by one, I would cherish and respect your input on this subject. If my understanding is incorrect, please explain and, if possible, provide references. Thank you.

Your understanding is very correct. And you explained the terms very well. @@HoshanaRabbah
