Thank you for the kind words. We are with him every single day and doing our best to provide a safety team around him. We coordinate with the salmon farms (where he lives) and make sure they don't get too upset with him. We just saw him a few hours and he is healthy and alive. Not living a good life, but we are hoping to change that. Please visit OneWhale.org or our FB and Insta for regular updates! xoxo
It will be great if Norway can have its own beluga whale sanctuary, but it will take quite a while, won't it? Iceland already has a beluga sanctuary, how about sending him there? It is quite urgent, isn't it?!
What is urgent is to get this film team away from the whale. They fabricate "evidence" and show the case completely wrong. Usually the whale has peace and quiet. Hunting for food and traveling wherever he wants. He is free and healthy. It is wrong to put him in captivity. Please take a look at onewhale Insta and FB today. A picture of Hvaldimir with a ball in his mouth. It was the Onewhale team that bought the ball and played .. They have bathed with him several times, woke him up when he slept and chased after him by boat.
Unfortunately the beluga sanctuary in Iceland is corporate owned by Merlin Entertainment, which is actually a an captive aquarium company that captures sea life (such as sharks and rays) and puts them on display for entertainment and profit. Merlin "rescued" the belugas from their own awful shows in China after public outcry. We are against these practices and don't want Hvaldimir there. We'd like Hvaldimir to be protected by the Norwegian government.
@@onewhaleorg I would urge you consider any option that removes Hvaldimir from areas with boat traffic. He's going to get chopped to pieces at the rate he is going. Surely any option is better than that - you can always send him someplace better, you can't bring him back to life.
@@onewhaleorg Thats bs and the exact type of stuff that fake charity's spout in order to divert attention. The owners of that sanctuary made a commitment to refuse to keep all whales and dolphins long before they purchased that park. And when it was purchased in china it contained 3 belugas they immediately funded the operation to have them put in a sanctuary and it wasn't cheap. You are insistent that the whale must stay in Norway even if it is not in his best interest, and you are trying to reach a unrealistic goal by telling people at every chance you get,!that this supposed sanctuary must be at least 2 by 1 km in size. Please tell us what you have done so far with the money that has been donated since all volunteers pay there own expenses when coming to Norway to "help out"???
Don't forget the pilot whales tragedy, who are very similar to the beluga, only darker. The pilot whales who are unfortunate to swim near the Faroe Islands (essentially a Denmark territory) also need protection. Over a thousand of these beautiful and docile whales are killed every summer in a ritualistic, medieval, retrograde festival of blood, sadism and cruelty known as "grindadrap". Look it up!

Fourth, the stereotypical American the slang term 'Murica is generally used to reference are usually Trump supporting, NRA loving, science denying nimrods, who tend to love hunting and aren't likely to care about the plight of whales. Just a thought...moving him to a special fjord is perfect but I don't think he would do well without human contact of some kind. Being with humans makes him happya nd I think it is highly likely that he would fall into a deep depression without it. If he were ever to try and integrate into a pod I think it would fail. Pods are v v reluctant to let a stranger in and would likely injure him terribly in an effort to drive him away. He's happy now and that's pretty darn important
Good luck, getting him safe in a country with legal whaling! Regulated, but legal, nonetheless. And the man who said that some locals say “kill him and the problem’s solved” speaks volumes.
I can't describe the feeling.. I only know that I love him..🐬💝 if he could talk he would say..he loves us too and doesn't want to be alone like this. He died from being hit by a boat propeller..? Do I understand correctly..? 💔
No, he got injured by a boat propeller, he is still alive. He may appear to enjoy human company, but that is because he has either been born into captivity or put into captivity for a long time. We do not know how he was treated or what sort of testing/training he experienced while in captivity in Russia. What is obvious is that he has had extensive contact with humans and does not know how to be a whale. He acts like he likes humans because that is what he knows. His behaviour around humans, the biting and opening his mouth for food makes it seem that he was trained with food, and that has led to him seeing humans as a source for food. You say he loves us, he says he's hungry.

@@Zeverinsen It's widely known that he hasn't lived in Hammerfest for 2.5 years. Sorry, this is incorrect. And you might want to check your sources on who is posting that he is happy and healthy. Are they a whale behavioral scientist? Because OneWhale actually has one of those on their team. Please pass on the facts for us... the fake news is tough to get past so we can actually help this whale.
As of September 5th, he's alive and well, gaining weight, looking happy. He seems to have decided to live in a remote fjord in Hammerfest, and he sometimes swims to the docks to see humans (maybe he's bored).
I am genuinely curious if there could be a private fishery established for him in a fjord, that was not blocked off. That way he would have a steady source of food that would prevent conflict with the commercial fisheries, and it would attract him to an area that could be free of boats. All I can think of is that after being kept in captivity and trained, all he wants is to be free. It would be such a cruel irony to keep him captive in a relatively tiny space (versus the vast distances a whale can traverse) out of a motive to protect him. Perhaps his freedom to choose where and how he lives is what is truly most important to protect? You can kill the spirit while trying to most perfectly preserve the body.
I do 100% genuinely appreciate the passion and effort you have put in to help this lone creature that has already been so heavily impacted by human actions. Choosing to advocate for a creature that can do nothing for you is really commendable and a needed thing in this world, so thank you for caring for him!
That's *literally* how he lives today 💀 He lives a free life in a remote fjord in Hammerfest, where nobody bothers him He only gets checked on every now and then. In fact, he voluntarily swims to local docks to greet people every now and then. You should always check things before you believe them.
@@Zeverinsen OMG you worked very hard to spread fake news. Please stop. It's just not true. He DOES NOT live in Hammerfest wild and free. We are with him. We are still working with Norway to designate a reserve for him. And we would like to rescue other belugas who are currently trapped in tanks for ticket sales. It's not a quick process so we appreciate you spreading the word.
@@ladythalia227 Hi Marianne, when was the last time you saw him in person? Probably never months ago. I saw him two weeks ago, and every month before that. If you want to spread misinformation like the other Facebook “whale experts” out there go ahead, but the only one who suffers from your actions is the whale.
I heard he was healing well from the accident. Usually, we don’t get many updates about Hvaldimir during winter. I’m sure he’ll be fine. He survived last winter just fine.
@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodsm4708 Thank God, if true... I would say the experiment with letting him roam the harbors and shipping lanes unsupervised has come to a halt. @@fredriksvard2603 Hopefully there's a group of people with some authority to directly protect him. As I said before, I think the idea of letting him roam is insane - he's too habituated to the idea that human boats mean fun and food.
@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodsm4708 So no? What exactly would you suggest then?Currently they aren't even being subjected to any tourists and are living in a beautiful large bay, way better than any aquarium could offer. Would these animals be subjected to any cruelty Vestmaneyjar would be less than likley to stand for it. This statement might surprise you as Iceland is one of the few countries that sadly engages in whale hunting even though the majority is against it...But i assure you that our people have large love and respects for whales. They don't seem to be in the business of selling marine animals as far as I can tell, but I'd be interested to know more.
He's too attached the humans. He was likely born or raised in captivity since very young and doesnt even know how to hunt for food. He stayed behind and was taught to venture outward to slowly integrate back to the wild. The real shame comes when the humans track him and impose danger like parasites bacteria viruses and propellor injuries upon vladimir. The other two whales may or may not accept him but even if they do, Vladimir must detach but the ocean is very scary for a single whale. There are alot of dangers out there for him. Can only pray for this precious baby. Most whales released in the wild from captivity don't live long. Perhaps in time by using sonar vladimir can tune into a pod or little white and little grey. Find each other and build a family unit. This is truly a heart break.

For this reason I really think the animals should be left free and safe. However, I get confused because there are so many other animals with certain amount of intelligence as well. So, i just realized that with all my rathe r bold statements i only crezted more questions but NO Answers! 🤐
Personally I'd rather eat another animal that was caught in the wild, instead of those who are mass-bred and slaughtered in captivity. Unless you're vegetarian or vegan, I'd say this comment is a bit hypocritical if you don't care about the actually *atrocious* dairy industry, first and foremost.
He was clearly raised in captivity and he's one of the smartest animals in the ocean, he'll be fine. There are a lot worse things waiting out there for Beluga whales than boat propellers. Humans like to pretend that we are separate from nature, and can fix or improve the natural order of things, but you cannot control everything, and death is a natural part of it all. The whale seems happy around boats and people, let him be, if you want to make a real difference in the world, make a video about the illegal whaling that still leads to hundreds of whale deaths per year.
You really expect China to stop training animals in captivity because Norway had the expendable income to build an entire sanctuary for a single whale? Get a grip.
@@SIMUL4CR4 It sounds like you didn't watch the video. But it does sounds like you're a whale behavior scientist (which OneWhale actually has on their team) and you can definitely tell he is HAPPY. I don't understand why he shouldn't be able to live where he currently is. He made his own decision to be there, right? So why can't he stay there? And why shouldn't he be able to make contact to other whales?
He did not chose to be here. He had no decision making in his location at all. He was born in a Russian sea and captured by humans and moved to Norway. Also, there are no belguas within his reach. Give the animal anesty, safe, care, love and a place to be
He is such a beautiful soul
He just gets to you
My friend just now told me that there's a rumor going around in Norway that someone shot this poor innocent creature to death. Pure evil! 🤬😭
He s friendly, kind and seek people, take care, save him. NOT KILL SUCH KIND ANIMAL
Hello, onewhale team. Please please take care of that innocent and cute soul 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 i am crying after knowing about him. He is alone in that populated area. Where a lot of boats are running 😞 please please take him to any whale family, like in previous year ( little white and little grey belugas send to an open sanctuary). Please 🙏🙏🙏😭😭😭😭
Please visit OneWhale.org or our FB and Insta for regular updates! xoxo
Takecare of the anial, all who need help, care, so lovely, kind animal
RIP beautiful 😢
Prayers and good vibe visuals for the safety and protection of this precious whale.
I worry he will become another Luna (the orca) sad story.
Look it up!
Caucasian male go back to murica its non of your business
@@garlicbread967 It's funny, your comment has different levels of ignorance. First, conservation should be everybody's business. Second, with a name like Pedro Cogoy, he's not likely to fit your stereotype of Caucasian. Third, the correct spelling of 'non' is none. Fourth, the stereotypical American the slang term 'Murica is generally used to reference are usually Trump supporting, NRA loving, science denying nimrods, who tend to love hunting and aren't likely to care about the plight of whales. Congrats on packing so much ignorance into such a short sentence (if you can call it that, with it's lack of punctuation).
WHATTTTTTT???😡😡😠😠😠😠. I'm ANGRY. Denmark is supposed to be an advanced nation! Imagine some locals even wanted to KILL HVALDIMIR . Horrible!

He’s just a whale he doesn’t deserve to die. Maybe if people left him alone maybe he wouldn’t be biting? He is still a wild animal
Way to go Norway.. help the wheels.. the world needs more of this.
Email sent. You made this advocacy easy to do. I applaud your efforts it took a lot of care and consideration to help this wonderful whale.
If he has a gash from a propeller these animals are smart enough not to make the same mistake twice. But the nets thing is a legit concern I suppose.
What about the Beluga sanctuary in Iceland? Why don't they join forces to make a bigger community?
why is this video so under rated
People who said kill him are not human.
Why can't most people just appreciate nature from a distance and wait for their own special interaction with animals instead of trying to force it?
Poor dude. I’d cry scream and throw up to see belugas live and living in the wild. ❤️
I love this. I was wondering how he was doing. My grandfather was from Norway - I am hoping to visit the motherland soon❤️❤️
Good luck, getting him safe in a country with legal whaling! Regulated, but legal, nonetheless. And the man who said that some locals say “kill him and the problem’s solved” speaks volumes.
Awwwwwwwww please please ( people need to stop ) I hope they don’t kill him. People are just sick. Those whales are so sweet 🥰
I am crying my heart out!
🐳🐳🐳🐳
I can't describe the feeling.. I only know that I love him..🐬💝
if he could talk he would say..he loves us too and doesn't want to be alone like this.
@@cruel_brittania
thank you very much.
I'm glad to hear..😍
He is like a puppy who likes to play naughty and lonely.. because he is alone. I want him to go back to the sea, forget the relationship with people..go back to nature. his real home Will it be too difficult..?
The thing I fear the most is..
Fear of being attacked by Orca..
He very cute..💝💝💝
He still lives in Hammerfest, and is seemingly very happy and healthy.
Any update to his current situation?
There used to be a facebook page, but it hasn't been active in a very long time.
please go to onewhale.org or our GoFundMe page for updates thank you!
Been seeing a lot of newer vids on TikTok lately. Probably from the new round of tourists coming to see him
As of September 5th, he's alive and well, gaining weight, looking happy.
He seems to have decided to live in a remote fjord in Hammerfest, and he sometimes swims to the docks to see humans (maybe he's bored).
Any updates on his whereabouts
That's *literally* how he lives today 💀
He lives a free life in a remote fjord in Hammerfest, where nobody bothers him
He only gets checked on every now and then.
He is 400 km away bothering a salmon farm, looking to the workers for companionship and sleeping under a their commercial work boat. It's neither natural or "happy" in fact it is very sad.
This is an old video. Wondering if Norway did provide a sanctuary?
We are still working with Norway to designate a reserve for him. And we would like to rescue other belugas who are currently trapped in tanks for ticket sales. It's not a quick process so we appreciate you spreading the word.
He’s a free whale and you can follow him on his Facebook page. He’s doing very well
@@ladythalia227 Hi Marianne, when was the last time you saw him in person? Probably never months ago. I saw him two weeks ago, and every month before that. He is neither “free” nor “doing fine.” He sleeps under a salmon farm barge that wants him gone; he gets gravely injured regularly; and he is painfully lonely. If you want to spread misinformation like the other Facebook “whale experts” out there go ahead, but the only one who suffers from your actions is the whale.
So cute and smart!
Wait what Happened to him? Last I heard he went missing after a propeller incident
The "natural approach" is not working, and will likely result in the eventual death of the whale. I would gladly donate to see him in a proper sanctuary environment where he won't get chopped to bits.
@@fredriksvard2603 Hopefully there's a group of people with some authority to directly protect him. As I said before, I think the idea of letting him roam is insane - he's too habituated to the idea that human boats mean fun and food.
He's dead
@@fredriksvard2603 Dude he was murdered buy a boat propeller...
I got an idea .. stop fighting each other and fight for the whale because it's not like we don't need them to survive ❤❤❤❤❤
Why is he talking about ''the first whale sanctuary'' ? Iceland already has a BELUGA whale sanctuary in The Vestman islands. Please bring him there!
That “sanctuary” is actually owned by a private aquarium company that sells large marine animals to China for their shows. So no
@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodsm4708 So no? What exactly would you suggest then?Currently they aren't even being subjected to any tourists and are living in a beautiful large bay, way better than any aquarium could offer. If their intention was to profit of this then that would be laughable. I might aso add that us Icelanders have a high moral and ethical standards. Would these animals be subjected to any cruelty Vestmaneyjar would be less than likley to stand for it. This statement might surprise you as Iceland is one of the few countries that sadly engages in whale hunting even though the majority is against it...But i assure you that our people have large love and respects for whales. I truly do have high hopes for this sanctuary, even if its not being run by Icelanders they do occupy our land. I love Belugas very much and i will personally be keeping a close eye on this sanctuary and its progress.
@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodsm4708 Where did you find this information? According to the Sanctuary's website, it's supported by Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC), Merlin Entertainments and Cargolux Airlines. Merlin owns one of the ocean parks in China (which also supplied the Sanctuary their first two beluga residents so far). They don't seem to be in the business of selling marine animals as far as I can tell, but I'd be interested to know more.

The SANTUARY WAS TO BE IN THE SOUTH OF THE ATLANTIC...
why can't he go with those other two belugas from china who were relocated to iceland? Little White and Little Grey?
He's too attached the humans. He was likely born or raised in captivity since very young and doesnt even know how to hunt for food. He stayed behind and was taught to venture outward to slowly integrate back to the wild. The real
shame comes when the humans track him and impose danger like parasites bacteria viruses and propellor injuries upon vladimir. The other two whales may or may not accept him but even if they do, Vladimir must detach but the ocean is very scary for a single whale. There are alot of dangers out there for him. Can only pray for this precious
baby. Most whales released in the wild from captivity don't live long. Perhaps in time by using sonar vladimir can tune into a pod or little white and little grey. Find each other and build a family unit. This is truly a heart break.

Isn't Norway one of the remaining countries with an active whaling industry?
Yes Norway and Japan...Japan has gotten the most heat in recent years but Norway does the same crap. It hunts whales and they feel because they didn't sign the CITIES through the international whaling commission they are free to kill these animals at will.
@@chrismccabe1795 I've never been the " save the whatever" is kind of guy , but I recently through watching UA-cam videos learned a lot about whales and just how intelligent they are and how vital they our to our world. For this reason I really think the animals should be left free and safe. However, I get confused because there are so many other animals with certain amount of intelligence as well. I don't believe there should be a moratorium on hunting or raising animals for food. After, God did put the human race over them to provide for our needs. So, i just realized that with all my rathe r bold statements i only crezted more questions but NO Answers! 🤐
Sadly yes. We are hoping it comes to an end soon.
Personally I'd rather eat another animal that was caught in the wild, instead of those who are mass-bred and slaughtered in captivity.
Unless you're vegetarian or vegan, I'd say this comment is a bit hypocritical if you don't care about the actually *atrocious* dairy industry, first and foremost.
this is truly sad
Its not our fault. You just have to keep your distance. And the captains have to watch out where they are going.
Since you're the expert, we can assume this highly social animal doesn't want the company of other belugas. Not lonely at all, in fact, you've assessed he is happy. So, let's forget it, we'll let him fend for himself alone in the fjords for the next 40 years. Yes, the salmon farms want to euthanize him, but that's okay - it is part of "nature" !!! We have all learned so much about how "nature" works. And about Norway, more than we could ever learn by actually being here in the country. Thanks for your insight.

Can they have him be with Little Grey and Little White?
Aww ❤️😔
He’s lonely 😞
I don't understand why he shouldn't be able to live where he currently is. He made his own decision to be there, right? So why can't he stay there? And why shouldn't he be able to make contact to other whales?
He did not chose to be here. He had no decision making in his location at all. He was born in a Russian sea and captured by humans and moved to Norway. Also, there are no belguas within his reach. Finally he is domesticated. Like if you took your family dog and put him in the woods and said be a wild dog. He would go to the the nearest house and try to find a family to care for him. You can read more facts about Hvaldimir at www.onewhale.org Thank you!
@@reginamatkins We still don't know why Hvaldimir showed up here though. Your comment makes it seem like we kidnapped him, and currently keep him in captivity, when that is not how he's living his life currently.

How did you read he was "moved to Norway" and make the leap to kidnapping? And where do you get that he is in captivity? Neither accusation are in that comment so there was no false information...
