Hey Ryan!! Yeah, I wasn't expecting you to be as informed. What a refreshing change from most law enforcement people I've met! Thank you for being so cordial and friendly!! 🤓👍👮♂️
Ken, you are an amazing pilot! If I didn’t live 890 miles from you, I would hire you for tips, tricks and smooth moves as only you can do. Thanks for the many hours of quality entertainment in allowing us to see things we would never get to see. Well done Sir!!!
Hey Ken this is one of the best vids you have done! Great location and explanation prior to the flight of the process to obtain LAANC approval and the launch process. Nice views of the building and footage to show the top and restaurant. You have more guts that most of us for sure! Get your preorder in for the Skydio 2 so we get your evaluation of it.
Great movie. You've answered many questions I've pondered on and inspired me to fly in city areas.......legally. I live in Yorkshire, UK, and York screams out to filmed from the air. Many thanks Ken and keep the movies coming.
Not all the advice outlined in this video is accurate in the UK. It is totally illegal to fly over York city or ANY other congested area. I strongly recommend search "uk drone laws" before getting yourself into trouble.

I'm from Memphis and am fixing to get a drone so I was trying to find out what regulations were specific to Memphis. I click on this vid, boom, it's in Memphis. How about luck! lol. Hopefully I'll be able to fly around Shelby county without any problems. Nice to see another Memphian on here. Keep up the good work!

It would never be allowed here of course due to our increasingly draconian anti drone paranoia. I hope you folks appreciate the freedoms you have.
Hey Paul! Yes indeed. I'm very thankful for LAANC and the FAA for allowing us responsible drone pilots to make a living AND have fun while doing it. I hope the rest of the world will eventually follow suit, as there's so much beauty to document in your corner of the planet!
We do and lately many us are more aware, with radicals wanting to try to take them from us just to gain more power, but then our country was created on the rights, the people being in charge and the government in servitude of the people and means of the people to defend themselves against radicals if necessary just hoping there are more people that want to keep them than be enslaved without. Wish you well.
Thank you Ken for all your hard work. To put these videos together takes alot of diligence and hard work. Keep them coming please! I learn something new every video.
Very cool Ken. That's something I'd like to do here in Denver. The state capital is a few blocks from where I work and would love to fly around it especially at sunrise.
Hey Ken thanks for teaching us how to be safe and how to use the drone properly in different scenarios. I love your videos and just to add something about cops, I was setting up my inspire1 to fly it at Palm Beach Island which is an Island for wealthy people, I already had checked the air space and everything was a "go" when a cop approached me and asked me what I was trying to accomplish, because people call the police around here on droners, so I told him that I wanted to film some scenery right next to the ocean, while I was talking at the same time showing him my FAA registration and whatnot, when he replied: Ok, just fly I will go away, hopefully no body would call on you, have fun, by the way I fly drones too. And then he drove off. I gave my wife a look who was serving as a spotter at the time, totally speechless because I was expecting a scolding instead a "have fun".
Ken, Thanks for all the videos. Your videos have been very helpful showing how to fly and apply the FAA rules to practical situations. Thanks to you, I've started taking some really nice videos of some of our downtown scenery as well as some cool shots at one of our reservoirs. Subscribed!
Very Cool Flight, Ken! Thanks again for another fun exploration flight around your neck of the woods. BUT, in this case, your neck of the woods was a crumbling concrete building, LOL! I WAS waiting for you to fly through one of the broken windows. I was hoping to see the inside of that ole restaurant, now that would have been over the top! Thanks again, Ken, looking forward to seeing you again at SPINUP, take care!

I should move to America and retake my pilots license and really enjoy flying... in Spain you need eyes in the back of your head .... maybe one day ...the authorities will calm down and not be so paronoid about their own corruption 😂
Hi Kaine. Unrestricted areas is not a problem but flying over Villages or Towns is unauthorized without permission which could include having to apply to 3 different bodies....Local TownHall.....AESA ...Military body. We operate through a website called .......drones.enaire.es. Which we use to check unauthorized air space, controlled airspace and restricted air space ( application needed in all cases). These can take 10 days each to get permission which normally comes back as a NO NO. We have no mobile apps designed to operate in Spain and no office that would handle an application made on a phone. We are truly in the fckin dark ages in Spain. The application process usually removes the enthusiasm to do the flight and fines are uncontrolled and can be any stupid number.
I'm confused on the definition of "anti collision" lighting as asked on the LAANC request form. Didn't think the common navigation lights on the craft qualified and that a high visibility strobe was necessary? Am I wrong?
Great vid Ken. As I live with n Chicago I have to deal with these concerns all the time. What are your stick settings for slow smooth pans & orbits? I still struggle with that and keeping my subject centered like you do so well.
Apologies if you’ve already answered this- Did you need special permission (from the city??other?) to launch from that location? I know airspace is FAA, but where I live (US), I’m pretty sure I have to have permission from the property owner(if private) or a permit (if public) to launch the drone at wherever I am standing. I would love to be wrong about this- so if you know something I don’t, or an easy way to resolve, please tell!
very cool video !! Maybe you can tell me Ken . I thought it was 400 feet from where you originally took off was your max? So if your above a building even though you took off at ground level is it 400 feet above that building now?? ( 400 feet from ground level or 400 feet from the top of a building you took off from maybe or is it just 400 feet from any object(building).
I love your videos ken! We need more fpv/ GPS drone meet-up in Tennesse !! I'm here in the Knoxville Area I've commented on Josh Bardwell videos and said we need a knoxville meetup
I think we could use some of you action types to the greater St Louis area. There are very few places you can fly around here, downtown is basically a no fly zone due to Arch grounds, stadiums and the government. Going across the Missouri River I contacted the St Charles county parks system but of the thousands of acres of parks spread all over the county they limit drones to a few hundred square foot area of one park located at the westernmost boarder, and have rules that don’t match the FAA’s but won’t admit that. I’m not sure what to do but private property is about our only option around here.
That's a shame. When I heard the FAA was about to make the arch a no-fly zone, I drove up there and filmed it ONE day before it was off limits. Such a beautiful city!
nice video!! just a suggestion, lay your antennas flat and turn the range extenders around facing up instead of facing the sidewalk. It seems to work better on my P4 that way when i'm flying directly above me.
Nice music and nice work on the joysticks! I would have done the flight pretty much the same way as you did. I know you can exceed 400 ft over the building per FAA, but I haven't been able to defeat the limit on my P4P to do it. Iv'e been using litchi which I prefer over DJI go because I find it easier to make pre-plan flights. Airmap is great, and I've used it (and verifly) a few times inside of class B to get an authorization number which took only a few seconds. The location was just beside a flight path at Houston IAH. I could watch planes on final approach as they came in to land from where I was located. The icons for the planes actually moved across on my screen as they came in to land. Pretty cool stuff. Thanks for the video!
Ken, the Drone U guys say that the people behind AirMap are trying to gain the power and influence to be able to charge people for time in the air, therefore they use the "UA Sidekick" app. I switched and I use that now instead of AirMap.
Hi Ken, You have similar rules in the US as we do in Canada. It is good to know, so If I travel down there and want to fly, then I will know what to expect. You guys make a great team, and your flying skills are top notch! You had some smooth captures of the building! Happy Droning!
Smart getting dude there to watch the drone. You know what your doing, Took notes. Avid flyer. Full up legit. Got Armap a few weeks ago. Didn't think about the insurance. Thanks!
Wow quite a sight, and great information... wild that the tallest building around is abandoned, condemned but for good reason. Thanks for Sharing this.
Epic episode! A beautiful day for a flawless flight. Thanks for showing us how it's done. Never been to Memphis until today and I got a kick out of the pyramid.
Fun video Ken. Exploring and shooting video is what I hope to make time for with my drones. Still working on my flying skills. You do give me encouragement to try!
So much good info in one video, thank you for sharing all of the app names etc. that you use. Incredibly helpful, I am just getting started in all this, I do not want to be "that" guy that screws it for all of us. Knowing the rules and grey areas is a good thing ... nice vid what a beautiful day for film.
Do you not carry a blanket insurance policy that covers you any time you fly so you aren’t having to pay $25 for insurance every time? Or is that a cheaper route than having a standard policy that you pay every month?
Even your soundtrack is on point, fits perfectly, love all of your videos brother 💯,. Oh and I recently rented the Mavic Air 2S to get some MORE features than I have with my mini 2,. Which arrived yesterday afternoon overnight FedEx and I was soo excited just simply the size comparison and it's like I could sense the increased power before even turning it on,.. until I decided to show off in front of company and family by doing a hand launch out through the kitchen window and just as I thought it was pretty much already airborne I began to lower my hand just to cause the sensors to idk "panic" from the tilt and hand moving before it was prepared and the propellers stopped and it crashed to the ground breaking his right leg 😒😬👀😳🤦🤷💩 thankfully the antenna and motor wires were still intact, and for just the moment for a quick fix I 👀😶 super glued the leg back on 😬 renting it for $311.00 for 5 days I don't really have the time or money to wait on more shipping and repairs or replacement at the time,. Which I JUST NOW thought 💭 of the "replacement" and that they could have had me a replacement here by this morning (if they had one in stock) but yeah, just wish I had been recording when it happened... 💭💩🤷🤦🤦🤦🤦🤔🥺😔😒👍🤣🤣🤣 But I love it's performance so far, and been on here watching tutorials for different filming and photography modes and tips and tricks,... So before sunrise I will attempt my first go at night time hyperlapse video along Kellogg (US-54/US-400) right on the west side of downtown Wichita Kansas,. Well being that's only 2 blocks away, and can't really fly too far due to the radio interference being in the city along with trees and buildings eventually becoming an issue at about 1.3 miles out AND being right outside of an airport restricted zone but still within the first 2 warning zones that show up on the fly app. .... 😶👀🤯🌚
great video Ken, have subscribed, I'm a new drone owner, and actually haven't gotten to take her out yet as it's rainy season here in Seattle and I live close to the airport, I love the camera quality of your Drone and am quite jealous! mines a budget and probably better for a beginner, i went with a Holy stone HS720E. I'm still learning about the apps such as Airmap and such, I only plan to use it as a hobbyist for now, but would like to one day get that Part 107 so I can use it on my channel as I grow.
Fun, miss your video work. I see you have a N2 Pro dashcam. I recently did a review on it. Curious as to what you think of it? I loved mine, but I sold it.
Curious as to what height you would enter into AirMap for this flight plan? Would you enter “400ft” or the actual altitude you would be flying? (400ft + height of the structure)
Another great"training" video Ken. Thank you. My local airport hasn't instituted the automated authorization as of yet however the grids are all on-air map and it says it's coming soon. Boy is that going to be nice!

Great video. I really enjoyed your filming
I'm confused on the definition of "anti collision" lighting as asked on the LAANC request form. Didn't think the common navigation lights on the craft qualified and that a high visibility strobe was necessary? Am I wrong?
No, the lights must be a strobe.
Great vid Ken. As I live with n Chicago I have to deal with these concerns all the time.
What are your stick settings for slow smooth pans & orbits? I still struggle with that and keeping my subject centered like you do so well.
Another COOL and educational video Ken! Ryan was a pretty cool contact! Great video, thanks!
Thumbs up immediately upon seeing you driving a manual RX8!
ZOOM-ZOOM!!🤓👍
Apologies if you’ve already answered this- Did you need special permission (from the city??other?) to launch from that location? I know airspace is FAA, but where I live (US), I’m pretty sure I have to have permission from the property owner(if private) or a permit (if public) to launch the drone at wherever I am standing. I would love to be wrong about this- so if you know something I don’t, or an easy way to resolve, please tell!
Property owners don't own the airspace above their property. Just use common sense and don't piss anyone off. Happy flying!
I think I'm really going to enjoy your channel, Ken. Cheers!
Thank you Don!
Great flight!! You have steady hands 🙌… great music choice , great content and was surprised when the cop knew you 😂
What kind of signal booster do you recommand 2.4Ghz and 5.8Ghz? I should use it only one.
very cool video !!
400 feet max AGL if you are a hobbyist. Only part 107 holders can fly 400' within (or directly above) a structure.

Great agken Ken. Loved the part with the cop...Just shows you, one can NEVER tell......
nice video!! just a suggestion, lay your antennas flat and turn the range extenders around facing up instead of facing the sidewalk. It seems to work better on my P4 that way when i'm flying directly above me.
Yes, always face the range extenders toward the drone. They narrow the signal and you could break the connection. 👍
@@KenHeron I'm no professional. I just noticed yours were facing down
Nice music and nice work on the joysticks!
Glad you liked it!
BTW, you can set your height to 500 meters in the DJI go app.
Ken,idk what it is about your informational videos.....But i like em...
Ken, the Drone U guys say that the people behind AirMap are trying to gain the power and influence to be able to charge people for time in the air, therefore they use the "UA Sidekick" app. I switched and I use that now instead of AirMap.
Way cool! Thanks for this one, I work in downtown Sarasota, FL. I use my drone for my building surveys, 12 floors.
I know this video is a over a year old. Man Ken you have some skills - LOVE YOUR WORK>
Thanks so much!
Hi Ken, You have similar rules in the US as we do in Canada. It is good to know, so If I travel down there and want to fly, then I will know what to expect. You guys make a great team, and your flying skills are top notch! You had some smooth captures of the building! Happy Droning!
Excellent content, good to see USA Police is nice and friendly, thanks from London - YASAJ TV
This is the first video I've seen of yours. I subbed! Nice shots!
Thanks Kenny!🤓👍
Smart getting dude there to watch the drone. You know what your doing, Took notes. Avid flyer. Full up legit. Got Armap a few weeks ago. Didn't think about the insurance. Thanks!
Glad to help, Christopher!
Happy flying!
How awesome are you!!!! Not only do you fly and make great videos....but you drive an RX8 my all time favorite vehicle other than a drone
Hey, thanks Jason! 🤓👍
@ 5:55. I thought obstacle avoidance was on in RTH. Or did they have it off?
Wow quite a sight, and great information... wild that the tallest building around is abandoned, condemned but for good reason. Thanks for Sharing this.
You bet.
Love the Marvin the Martian profile pic! Are you going to blow up the EARTH?! 😜
So did you go in? I wanted to see he inside of the restaurant!
Doesn't the P4P avoid obstacles like large buildings upon RTH?
You can always use Smart RTH too.
@@Thunderbyrd. That's what I thought!
Interesting, cool, and informative video, Ken! Doesn’t your Phantom avoid obstacles in RTH mode?
Thanks!
Yes, I had RTH off from a previous job when the crash happened.
Ken Heron oh, OK. Thanks for the reply, Ken, I love your channel!
Just a quick tip on flight altitude, you can go above 400ft because you’re flying above that building. 400ft from the top of the building
ua-cam.com/video/YUXLTMFxsV4/v-deo.html
Really good video. I find it instructional on how to drone the right legal way. Thanks
Hey Ken,
What kind of range extender have you got on that radio?
I'm looking to get a range extender for my Phantom 3 Standard.
There's a link in the description.
The company make them for the P3 Standard too.
When a parade passes by... That was awesome!! I thought you were gonna take a "peek" inside the restaurant!! I think it's time for "lash" call.
You do give me encouragement to try!
i'm there too! good luck !
Happy flying and best of luck to both of you guys!🤓👍
thanks for the video--Ken, what is your favorite Drone for under $1000 as far as durability and support
So much good info in one video, thank you for sharing all of the app names etc. that you use. Incredibly helpful, I am just getting started in all this, I do not want to be "that" guy that screws it for all of us. Knowing the rules and grey areas is a good thing ... nice vid what a beautiful day for film.
Do you have a video showing more of the crash in AC NJ?
What a great, unexpected beginning to the video! Too funny!
The only time I forgot to set my RTH higher than the building, I realized it and canceled just in the knick of time… did you try to cancel it?
Do you not carry a blanket insurance policy that covers you any time you fly so you aren’t having to pay $25 for insurance every time? Or is that a cheaper route than having a standard policy that you pay every month?
Can anyone clarify the FAA regulation Ken quoted? What are the CFR subsections?
Thanks!
Happy flying!
YES KEN BACK WITH THE GOOD DRONE VIDEOS
Fun, miss your video work. I see you have a N2 Pro dashcam. I recently did a review on it. Curious as to what you think of it? I loved mine, but I sold it.
Curious as to what height you would enter into AirMap for this flight plan? Would you enter “400ft” or the actual altitude you would be flying? (400ft + height of the structure)
Actual (maximum) altitude AGL you plan on flying.
Just found you and your videos. Very helpful for a beginner. Thanks
Glad to help!
I have to say, thee hast drone balls. Those interior shots are amazing.
Another great"training" video Ken. Thank you. My local airport hasn't instituted the automated authorization as of yet however the grids are all on-air map and it says it's coming soon. Boy is that going to be nice!
It's getting easier to get approval every day. 🤓👍
