    love ya Bart but I am with Scott. I feel the shootout should be a comparison of brand of Scotch you are tasting not so much of a speed run . Bart I love the game face keep it up and Scott stay cool. Love the show keep up the great work. You both are the scotch gods.

    Bart being honest for a sec, “sacrilege”. Then realizes he might hurt some tender feelers and says no you can drink it how you want. 😅

    My wife and I JUST opened a brand new bottle of 10 year just now! Our 6th bottle within the last year. it's our favorite!! The only other expression we've had from Laphroaig is the cask strength, which we still liked, but was a little bitter to us.

    Ouch... cask strength for $38? Here I am only 4 years later and paying $87 for it! 😭
    I haven't had the luxury of trying the 15 or 18 yet but I have to agree with Bart's intial comment on this one; the C.S. is just fantastic! As far as I'm concerned, it blows the rest of the lineup out of the water... Of course, that's just my $.02
    Keep up the great work guys! 😁

    10 Cask Strength is the best of the Laphroaig I've had. The normal 10 is a great daily, and the Quarter Cask is the best for the money.

    Tonight(now morning) was my 3rd sit down over the last couple weeks with my first peated scotch, the standard 10 year Laphroaig. My first tasting was all peat but I'm now able to get a little more flavors on my 3rd go around. Never say never but this probably will never be my "go to". I will definitely come back to it over the next several months as my taste buds mature, and will also be trying the triple wood. we'll see what happens. I guess I could end up being a peat freak like Bart, but probably not...lol

    • @ScotchTestDummies
      @ScotchTestDummies  7 років тому

      Thats similar to what happened with me, but it took me awhile to warm up to the peats. Now I like them, and have several on my shelf, but I still prefer a good sherry scotch. scott

  • @jesseregenauer630

    I discovered the select cask about four months ago. Probably one of my favorites and surprisingly a complex smoke power house at only 40%. I absolutely get a nice cigar ashtray with fruity sweetness, sea salt brine, cinnamon & vanilla-----the smoke does indeed show up as a bit delayed but then lasts throughout the finish. Just fantastic and one of seven malts I am using in an affinity bottle. Crazy shit guys------THAT MUCH SCOTCH to review-----like a couple adult kids in a candy store..... ----damn fine candy to be sampling...... :) CHEERS!!!

  • @scotchgod8478
    @scotchgod8478 7 років тому +2

    you should try the laphroaig px cask, too. I had it last night with my mates. I'm always looking for a bit more sherry sweetness and friendliness when dealing with laphroaig and the px Cask offers it. it's very much a logical continuation of the triple wood and the peat though still strong is not so much to the fore.
    highly recommended 👍

    Bart did get a little carried away but I am a Laphroaig fan also and I also get a bit excited whenever I Get a new bottle of Laphroaig. My favorite is the 18 year old and will drink it year round if i can find it. Next favorite would have to be the 10 year cask strength but mostly in the fall and winter because it will definitely smack you in the face. Keep up the good work.

  • @foodquig
    @foodquig 8 років тому

    I agree with you guys about the triple wood... That one blew me away too, and it must have done the same for everyone else who got a bottle because it sold out fast and we can't get any more right now. I still can't get over how cheap Laphroaig is down your way. The 18 would be nice, but it's about $200 here. The 15 is also prohibitively expensive. I believe the triple wood was around $100 when I could still get it...

    • @ScotchTestDummies

    Laphroaig is my favorite distillery. I have all these bottles open right now as well. My top three are Triple Wood, Regular 10 and the 18 - i have an old green container on the 18. I agree that the 15 is wanting. Cask strength 10 is loved by many but not my favorite for some reason. I think i have batch 5. Quarter Cask is too woody for me. Select is the worst but is still enjoyable for a laphroaig lover like myself.

    I love Laphroaig. In my area I have noticed that the 10 year is hard to find right now. I am in Ontario Canada and have had the same problem finding it in 3 other provinces. Do you know if anything is up with the 10Y?

      We have not heard anything about supply issues. Plenty around our area at least

    Nice one guys. Great shootout. Bruno did get his feelings hurt though. I'm with him Bart --speed is not a factor. That said I've had them all and my top three are: 18 (love the sherry/peaty combo), quarter cask, standard 10 yo.

    I have all of these plus 4 years of the Cairdeas and a couple old 15's. 30yo are long gone except for a couple samples I saved. Try different batches of the Cask Strength, they vary in ABV from 55.7%(pre-batch) to 59.9% with #008 and have subtle changes in power and sweetness. Batches #005 & #007 are amazing, #004 & #006 were less impressive. I see it's batch #006 in this shootout/tea time tasting ;-)

      Next time you are in Dallas hit Spec's, Total Wine or Goody's they will have them, Total being the best prices, Spec's better selection of independent bottlers, and you can check their online inventory to know which store has what.

      Only going to find older Laphroaig C/S batches in stores with slower moving inventory. Goody's is the older chain of stores and will have some.

    I don't get how you can even taste the Select after you've had the other stronger ones. I have a bottle of Quarter Cask and I bough a bottle of Select a day later. I could neither smell or taste the Select after drinking the Quarter Cask. I had to wait about 3 hours before I could taste and smell the Select properly. You guys are very entertaining = subscribed :)

    Good grief! You guys are forcing me to expand beyond the QC and 10 yr. I will sometimes have an inexpensive scotch or Irish blend over ice on a hot Texas summer day. I have found that adding a splash of Laphroaig 10 yr. improves the blend significantly. Try it. Love Laphroaig.

    Very enjoyable, thanks :) I've only tried the 10 and QC but liked both. The QC seemed a lot sweeter and a more oily mouth feel. Not a peat 'monster' like the 10 but excellent all the same. Just wish we got the 10 at 43% here in UK. May have to pop up to Islay for a bottle of the CS 10!

    Triple wood, quarter cask , 10 year, cask strength for me. Cask strength just too alcohol forward. Triple wood is like drinking smoked caramel. Tried it and then immediately bought two more.back up.bottles.

      Bart here. I do not but feel I should. One problem (or blessing) was a super sale on the regular 10 year and the cask strength. It was so good I bought a 12 bottle case of each. Those stocks are still strong so I’ve been singular in batch diversity.

    • @ConnahJay
      @ConnahJay 5 років тому

      Scotch Test Dummies Awesome Bart! What batch did you buy a case of! I really love batch 10 and 09... I slightly prefer 09... more balanced, not as aggressively “oaky” and spicy as the batch 10. They are pretty close though!

    Here in Europe the Laphroaig 10 is bottled at 40% and that's a little bit weak for this whisky imo. So I prefer the QC.

    Loved the shootout. You've made me realise I need to replace my triple wood which I finished a while back.
    Unfortunately, here in Oz we also suffer the 40% 10yr old ( Buffalo Trace we also get at 40% whereas most reviews have it at 45%)...and we pay about $65 USD for it...you get cask strength for $38...can somebody get me a green card?

    Interesting how you identify a mint flavor in the Laphroaig 10. I used to think I could taste toothpaste but nobody else in our club believed me.
