Avoca Street is also quite popular for commerce, there is the 150 year old Coach and Horses Hotel. Lived there for 10 years and left to move back to England in 2007...can't belive they have trams now...thanks for the upload, brings back good memorys
Such childhood memories. Lived at 123 Belmore Rd. early 1950s. Hannan’s Butchery used to be right behind Captain Cook statue. I loved Randwick.
I lived in botany street 23 during 2003-2005, miss randwick!
Thank you. Been stuck in Germany for the past year and a bit. This is just a little reminder of home
You're welcome! Thank you 😊
I stayed at Randwick when visiting Sydney for the first time in 2015 to send my son to UNSW. Your video brought back good memories of this cosy little town.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I am glad that this video brings back good memories. Thank you 🙏😊
one of my favorite place to hang out over the weekend , miss all the mates up there 🥰🥰🥰
I used to live in Randwick in 1990s. Many shops have not changed but there are a few new ones. Also light rail which is fantastic! It is first time that I've seen the light rail coming into Randwick. I remember Royal Randwick Shopping Centre with branch library. It would be good to do The Spot at St Pauls St and Perouse Rd. There was Peters Corner with Randwick Presbyterian over road on corner of Alison Rd and Belmore Rd. Mayor Margaret Martin got Waverley Randwick Philharmonic Society grant when I was president in 1998. Library is named after her.
I lived there in the 90s. Wonderful memories! Seeing the spire of the Catholic Church got me so nostalgic. Thank you! How about a walk down to Coogee beach?
I will walk around Coogee one day. I will add it to my list. Thank you 😊
Beautiful walk. I love it. Thank you.
Randwick nice to see
I really miss these places.... I was studying in UNSW in 2002-2004.... I wish I could visit Sydney again one day....

I studied in UNSW in 2003-2005 and lived in randwick, miss Sydney!
Quick video of Belmore Rd which is the main shopping hub of Randwick. Though many buses have been cancelled now due to the deeply unpopular tram, the cute bookstore that used to be near the Ritz (now a knick-knacks place for I think over a decade now), the bowling alley long gone and so many of my favorite stores and restaurants having closed down (between lock-out laws, Uber Eats putting a strain on businesses and COVID has really diminished the former culinary diversity) I still love the place. But oh how I miss all the great former places to eat when you wanted a break from cooking. From Azteca's (the only authentic Mexican spot in the city for over 25 years where you could get mole and taquitos etc), Salt and Lemon near St Marks for quick grilled octopus and chips, La Cocina which had awesome Peruvian BBQ and purple compote and now the Moroccan place among others, I hope in the future culinary diversity returns because other than a tonne of Thai food it's just a sea of pizza and burgers for the most part. Back in 2010 they had a great kebab place but it didn't make it. The excellent Asia mart is long-gone, as is the health food store, and Harris Farms took over the former fresh food place, too. All the awesome dollar stores are gone now too, the only surviving one downsized to a super small space on the corner of Belmore. And you missed the historical mural! Yep, things done changed!
ah Randwick I know it well have walked these streets many many times. Thanks for the video.
@@davechristian7543Nowhere near far from it.
Used to live along Botany St as a UNSW student. Randwick has changed since. But great to see the butcher still there. They were kind enough to saw up pieces of a reef cod (from one of my home breaks - Fiji) we (flatmates & I) pushed up in a trolley 😁. Ah those good old days....the friendships, countless BBQs, adventures, pub crawls and of course studies☺. Thanks for the upload!❤
Thanks for bringing back my childhood memory.
You're welcome! I'm glad this video brings back good memories! Thanks for watching. Have a great day 🙏😊

Sydney's buildings have impressive roofs on the ground floor! People can walk away from the hot sun!😃👍
So bright and colourful
I know Randwick well; I lived there in the early 2000's. I used to walk down the hill to Coogee beach and go to see movies at the "Randwick Ritz" cinema.

First like
Was 20,000 times better and more interesting in the 70s and 80s.
Can't believe how much it's changed since then! Maccas, KFC, Oportos...the chicken shop was called Tiffanys back then and Dr Balzer was the local doc. Wonder if Sophie's is still there.
@@dyingsun23 The Maccas and Oportos are relatively new. Alot of the great restaurants have closed down as have many stores as you cannot get away with charging high prices for cheap goods anymore. The days of retailers buying items for $5 a pop and charging Australians $80-100 per item are loooong gone. When I told one retailer 12 years ago the necklace she charged me $80 for I found for $6 online she turned beet red. $25 you can justify but a $75 mark-up for cheaply made goods? Hell no. The store did not stay open for much longer after that. When I was living overseas, I got a great pair of sandals for $15 and remarked, "Man, if this was Oz this would cost around $120". 3 years later, the exact same pair of shoes (minus one beautiful decorative element) I found at Westfield for $122. You got the point you could predict how much you were being over-charged and now that Aussies know how much more they were being over-charged, many have gone online. Things done changed!
Cities come and go in waves. The 90s was great. Than after the Olympics the gentrification pushed out so many of the cool, creative folks. 10 years later it was great again, than the lock-out laws hit. Than Uber eats led to many restaurants closing down as people were eating out less. And than COVID hit. Hopefully the next wave will be funky versus deeply generic as no one needs yet another wellness center, or artisan bakery, or bland cafe with even blander eats. Seriously.
