First pretin your wire with the help of some flux, this will make soldering the wire to the board a lot easier. Also you don't need so much tin on the board and add some flux when soldering the wire to the board, this will help with creating a good solderjoint. For this kind of work a good liquid flux works better then the paste flux you use.
