  • A rock anthem for many of my generation. To me, it's about those" tough love" speeches we all got from our parents, or even a mentor outside the family when we veer off course in our thinking or actions.
I started recording this song just as the world was seeing the light at the end of the covid tunnel, then put it away for a time because I wanted violin/fiddle on it, just wanting to keep it organic in nature. I brought it back out to finish after deciding to play the fiddle parts myself with my the help of my new sound library.
I dedicate this sing to all those who've either experienced "tough love moments", or anyone who've been privileged enough to mentor others by sharing hard learned wisdom with those of the younger generation. We all know that most often, a dose of truth doesn’t taste good when we're on the receiving end, but we eventually come to realize (years later), we're thankful for it. My father taught me “Don't Be a Victim… Be Victorious”. For me, the moral of this song is simply that.
(Written by Tommy Shaw) ... paraphrased for emphasis...
"You've got it all in the palm of your hand…
…and You're fooling yourself if you don’t believe it"
“…Get up, get back on your feet
    … let's see what you've got
Just take your best shot, and don't blow it”

FYI. Dennis DeYoung did not write this song. This was written and sang by one of the other singers, Tommy Shaw. In fact, he admitted that the song was actually about Dennis Deyoung and his observations of how Dennis was dealing with their newfound fame. Otherwise, that was a descent cover. I like how you made it your own instead of just trying to sound like the original.

Thanks for clearing that up Dan. I actually remember hearing that now, years ago and had forgotten it. Looked it up on Bing search and I was misinformed. I should have it all corrected now. Thanks much!

Yes...my Facebook post actually explains this issue.
I actually made a mistake in the initial ad but corrected it. For some reason the correct version won't show when I post it on Facebook. So I just gave up. It's been weeks since the fix...still won't show the correct version. Go figure. Thx Patty.
