    I have to say that I was born almost legally blind. It is only through the mercy of God that I can see. This thought brings to me joy and a heart that cries out "THANK YOU LORD! God didn't owe my sight

    Quite humbling. As Our Lord said to St Margaret Mary Alacoque when she asked Him why He chose her, in response Christ said: "I could not have found someone more insignificant to spread this devotion (of the Sacred Heart) than you."

      She was such a little dear! Clumsy and awkward, mocked for her gaffes, humiliated constantly. Just a precious darling! No wonder Jesus chose her.

    Wow, this really spoke to me. My husband was killed in a car accident a couple months ago, and I don't think I've felt like God owes me ... but maybe I do, because I've felt like it's unfair and horrible. I've neglected to be grateful for all the good things in my life that I don't deserve. Thank you for this word.

    I don't know how often I hear "If God existed, then why is there so much cruelty in the world?"
    The way I see it, God don't make these cruel things that we see around us. People do.

      Archyski what about cancer and diseases that causes people to suffer?

    • @Archyski
      @Archyski 7 років тому +9

      Carrot Megpoid God doesn't give people cancer either.
      cancer is created by a combination of many things like viruses, lifestyle, smoking, unhealthy food and so on, and many peoole are genetically speaking even more likely to get cancer than others, no matter how good they live. We all had cancer close to our lives, and are still having it.
      But your opinion could easily be, that why does God allow good people to get cancer or other sicknesses?
      My own view is, that sicknesses like cancer, is yet another thing mankind had to live with since Adam and Eve were thrown away from God's paradise. But Jesus says in the bible, that he will one day return in a final battle against evil, and from that day, there will be no more sickness, cruelty or death.
      If God removed sicknesses like cancer and other cruelty like war and hunger right now, then there wouldn't be any point of waiting for Jesus return.
      That is just one answer to your question, but it is one big mystery for all people I think.

    • @Archyski
      @Archyski 7 років тому +6

      Thҽ Blɑςƙ Lҽg It is complicated when we only have our faith, in a world where faith alone isn't enough anymore.
      You do need evil to know what is good. The only reason we know about goodness, is because it's the opposite of evil which we also has experienced one way or another. But I don't think that God takes Peoples health or money, millions of people are in good health and have lots of money. And they don't need God, because they feel they have everything. But the bible warns us about the love for ourselves, where we don't need God.

    Fr. Mike, I do love to listen to you. You are super charismatic and go straight to the point. It is absolutely true: everything I am, my self-being it is an act of love from God to me. You and I are contingent persons. It is a mystery of God´s love our existence. Praise be the Lord, who is My Lord, My King, My God, the Only True Transcendence Meaning of my Existence, and I become The Temple of the Holy Spirit, when I receive Him the Eucharist in Holy Communion. Big and strong hug in Our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the only source of love and redemption, with the Sanctifying Grace of the Holy Spirit, in the Glory and Authority of God Father almighty. Amen.

And then i get on with another grueling seemingly senseless day, same as the one before and the one before that one. I try so hard not to be negative, but I can't stop. Every day is a struggle, but i do try to be mindful every morning as I wake.

    Yes he does. We did not ask to be put here and suffer in this world therefore the thing that put us here is the reason for all our problems and suffering. He should accommodate us in every way because of this imposition.

  • @jsmilers
    @jsmilers 7 років тому +5

    Any loving father, including God, owes his children the expectation of a good life, with minimal suffering. Not a single one of us asked to be created and brought into a world full of death and disease. The being who launched us into this situation most certainly does have a responsibility to offer us protection and happiness.

    • @enshala6401

    • @zzc8505
      @zzc8505 2 роки тому

      @@enshala6401 that's a judgement right there. Lots of faithful Christians are trying to do their best, not "rejecting God's gifts," yet many suffer serious tragedies, not simply not having their random wants satisfied. Lots of innocent children go through horrible stuff (or will you say they are "rejecting God's gifts"?)
      So, why don't you study the scriptures better and pray that God can grant you a modicum of non-judgemental compassion?... so that at least you'll have a drop of wisdom to realize that the problem of suffering is much more complex and essentially inexplicable in human terms, and it's not about "rejecting God's gifts."

    • @enshala6401
      @enshala6401 2 роки тому

      @@zzc8505 my goodness, what in the world are you talking about. Firstly, regarding my education in Scripture, I have completed the 5-year in-person Protestant Bible Study Fellowship course, and two graduate-level courses from a Catholic University. What is your Biblical educational background?
      Regarding your problem with the statement that people reject God's gifts, are you saying no one on the planet does this? That's absurd. EVERYONE rejects God's gifts - it's called SIN.
      Finally, regarding the tragedies that people face in life, of course it's sad, and they deserve our tender loving care in practical ways, such as hugs, donations of time and money, prayer, etc. God loves everyone, and everyone experiences pain. Being people of free will, we can love God in spite of the pain.

    That's called having an optimistic and positive outlook on life. "I didn't do anything to deserve all the good things that God gave me"? True. But I didn't do anything to deserve all the bad things that God gave me either. Adam did. I'm paying the price for what an ancestor of mine did a long time ago. I didn't ask to be born. Sure, you're going to say that God could kill me anytime He wants, and yes, that is true. But why create me in the first place? Why bring me into this world? Did He ask me if I wanted to experience life? Did I consent to it before I was brought on Earth?

    • @isaiahblickenstaff4773
      @isaiahblickenstaff4773 7 років тому +7

      TheLHShowChannel When you say we are paying the price of the sin that Adam committed, that's kind of true in the sense that you are born with original sin but if you are baptized, you are washed clean and renewed by Jesus Christ. But we still need to be forgiven for the sins we've committed, not just Adams. And thankfully, He loves us so much that he died for us to rid us of our sin. And the reason he created you was so you can spend eternity with him in heaven. If you weren't born, you wouldn't have that chance. That's why he created you. Sorry if that was long but I figured I might be able to answer some of your concerns :)

Don't expect Him to make you hear His voice, just sit and let Him speak to your subconscious. Then be patient. You'll get your answers.

    I'm majorly depressed, I have no hope, I cry and pray and beg God everyday for help, I attend mass and do all I am meant to do with all of my heart. Forget earthly goods, if I am not even guaranteed happiness or joy in my walk with Christ, then what is the point in any of this?

    • @athreeringcircus
      @athreeringcircus 7 років тому +3

      God doesn't have to do anything for us. But he does. It's not about if God chooses to let you in heaven it's about if you would truely choose God.

      And as for the depression I can only tell you that if the world tastes of ash, spit it out. Fill your day with rosaries and prayers.
      I used to do only what I was meant to do. Now I try do do everything that I can, putting God at the center of my life, making him my ultimate goal. Thinking of him in every aspect of my life, not just what will happen to me when I die. We don't have to be priests, nuns or missionaries to be saints, we just have to truly choose God.

      As someone who has struggled with major depression, I suggest seeking therapy, and meditating on what exactly is making you depressed. Obviously pray and ask God for guidance through your trials, but also seek help.
      And you are guaranteed eternal happiness and joy walking with Christ, but not without trials. It is much more difficult to be without God and to suffer, than to be with God and to suffer.

    • @kimfleury
      @kimfleury 7 років тому +9

      In addition to what Quinfan10 advises, I suggest a meditation on Christ's Passion, because in His Passion He experienced *every* suffering we do, including major depression. As you meditate on His Passion, go to that place where He suffered depression and hopelessness -- "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" Join Him in that moment. Step into His place, and ask God to accept your willingness to suffer this. Ask Jesus to allow you to console Him in that moment. You know He suffered the same thing you do *for* you, not so that you won't experience it, but to save you from the rightful consequence of original sin (which is torments from real demons and eternal separation from God). That's even worse than depression, it's unimaginably worse. But Jesus loves you so much that He suffered everything just to save you from that...and to be able to be with you for eternity. He wants you to be with Him forever. Are you willing to share a little bit of His suffering, knowing that it comforts Him on the Cross when He feels abandoned? At the Mass, when the priest raises the Host, it's symbolic of raising Christ on the Cross -- offer your suffering to Him at that moment, join your suffering to His, ask Him to allow you the strength to bear your suffering so that you might console and comfort Him, and thank Him for allowing you the gift of sharing in His Passion. Then you may find that joy isn't a "Jesus High," it's intellectual -- it's knowing what He did for you so that you might experience unimaginable joy with Him forever.

    Fr. Mike, I appreciate you pointing out that God does not owe us things we do not need. However, it doesn't not mean that He does not owe us what we do need. There's a difference between demanding the things that we do not need, and begging for the things that we do (such as whatever is needed to bring us to Him). For example, in order to love, which Christ calls us to do, we need to be loved first. We know that in Christ there is enough love for us, and that God WILL provide what we need in order to complete what He asks, otherwise He would be lacking, which He in His essence is not. However, this opportunity may come to us through purgation and purification and mortification. But essentially, it's God preparing us for Himself to do His will. God does not owe us anything because He has already provided what we need, just as Azaria found in his sufferings means to worship God, while they might not have been what he imagine worshiping God to look like. To say that God does not owe us anything is more about God giving us everything that we need to obtain our greatest good, which is Him, than about the idea that God could if he wanted to just not care about us because He doesn't owe us anything (which can be the fear that arises in that statement). It is okay to ask God for things, but to trust that if He does not provide it, it is because He has found a better means of giving our souls what He has created them to need, which life His Son bought for us by His blood.

      I'd like to suggest Scott Hahn's lectures about the Virgin Mary. I don't know why there is such misinformation about Mary, the hatred of Mary is inspired by the Jews and Satan.
      God announced Mary's role in Genesis, when He told the Serpent that He would make it (Satan) and the woman (Mary) enemies and that in the future, she (Mary) would crush Satan's head.
      God chose and created Mary without sin, so that Jesus could be born of an immaculate womb and receive perfect education and love. In the New Testament, after the Apocalypse, Mary is also in direct opposition to Satan.
      The first Marian Prayers recorded are from as early as 240 A.D, even before the New Testament was written and put together by the Catholic Church (around 400 A.D).
      For these reasons we shall honour Our Blessed Mother, as Jesus told his most beloved disciple from the Cross, this is "your Mother", and pray the Rosary every day.

      People who met Mary and Jesus and saw Christ restoring eyesight to the blind, raising the dead and who witnessed his ressurection and who were later persecuted and also crucified, in good spirits, like Peter who asked the Romans to crucify him upside down because he thought he was not worthy of dying in the same way as the Lord; those people would disagree with you. They saw something way beyond the physical world and many of them could have avoided their deaths but didn't because they were never the same after experiencing the divine miracles and wisdom of Christ.

      hoopoe bird "Worship" and "idol" are incorrect words. We Honour and Pray for and with Mary for her intercession on our behalf, when we are finally to be judged by Christ for our sins. Do not forget Christ has given the first 30 years of his life to Our Lady, and only 3 to his disciples, that's 10 times more. Mary is human, like us, but she was created without the original sin.
      You also have failed to grasp the distinction between "idol" and icon. Doesn't your church also has a Cross or a Fish symbol? Well, that is an icon, it can inspire, inform and make our faiths stronger. Just like photos or images of the Saints can.
      Through sinless Mary and Christ, God's second plan to substitute Adam and Eve, who were also created sinless but fell to sin, God intends to grant us Eternal Life after our death.

      It's not worship, and I'll explain. You quote from the Ten Commandments, that might mean you are a Jew, if that is the case, you do know that God's Son is also announced in that book. He was with God from the beggining of Creation: "In the beginning, there was Logos, and Logos was with God, and Logos was God."
      Christ is Logos/the Word/ Reason. God the Father, the one you refer to, is the Creator and the Holy Spirit proceeds from them both.
      Christ was not 50% God and 50% human,rather, he was 100% God and 100% Human, fully human and fully divine; therefore it is natural for Christians to venerate his image, as He is God himself in flesh, that would not constitute idolatry, which is sinful.
      God created his Son, and also the angels and humans, out of His sheer kindness and a desire to share His own blessed life.
      I know where you are coming from, I too was once an atheist, agnostic, and simply theist until my theological understanding matured into Catholicism, it might be that, since you are here watching a priest's video for some reason, one day you will too.

      You will find what you are looking for in the Gospel of John, where Jesus indeed afirms his Nature. Jesus' message is not of worshipping him, but of giving testimony to the Truth: the saved will be those who feed the hungry and clothe the naked, visit the ill, imprisoned, comfort the lonely, loving God with all our hearts.

    And that is why I don't ever sing "God Bless Americ." Given the text and the musical composition, the song cannot be sung without a sense of triumphalism. That is, a sense that God owes us a blessing because we're such a great country. There is no tone of suplication, entreaty, humility in the song.
    I was pleased to find that the hymnal we use at my parish doesn't include this song. It's remarkably short on anything 'patriotic."

    The problem I have with God not owing me anything is that you can't expect anything from God and therefore you can't trust Him. He seems to be more concerned about redeeming sinners than rewarding those who are trying to be faithful which frequently frustrates me. If God owes nothing does it make sense to ask for anything? Does it make sense to even pray or try? It's better to be a bad person, forcibly things you want and then ask for forgiveness, isn't it?

    I wouldn't emphasize what God doesn't owe you and answer that with Creation. Rather, understand that the Bible declares hardship from the moment of believing in Christ. A faulty understanding of God shows a faulty understanding of the Bible. Therefore, if a person thinks God is going to protect and provide all of our wants and desires, obviously has not read their Bible. But here is the difference of our emphasis: Friends, we live a sin fallen world. Hebrews 11:6 states that those that have faith in God must believe that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. But be careful here: God will reward us and give true believers what they deserve in Heaven Matthew 16:27, Luke 6:35; Revelation 22:12. Our rewards may never be realized here on earth, but after this life, God promises to reward every man and woman for what they have done in the New Kingdom of God, Heaven. Its not a matter of God owing us anything, its a matter of knowing that God is faithful to His promise. We can take that to the bank because its value is worth all eternity.

    So do we earn or merit anything? Any blessings from God? Favor?
    I had people tell me during a relationship - as happy as they saw me with her that that i “deserved it” for all the good I had done or been to other people, Spiritual and religious study and service and she left me with that “I (she) deserve it” as if to say she had suffered enough in her life or that she had done enough for others or prayed enough to “deserve” better. Well, she did- probably was told that either by friends or someone she started seeing behind my back.
    Seems we often get what we deserve in the judgement, negative sense
    can we merit blessings in our life? Do we not deserve anything for our efforts in the spiritual and physical life? FML

      Hello Daniel, I am very sorry about what happened to you (the woman in your life left you for someone else). I believe God blessed me in a way I didn't deserve, with a husband I loved but it was a difficult marriage, but that's how God showed me I needed to be "Born Again." I was blind to the sin in my heart and had to repent. We don't deserve blessings, but God will bless you when you don't even see it coming.
