current patch runs are the only runs worth investing time in, never understood what's impressive about beating a version of a recent release no one else plays anymore. Current patch any% WR holds way more clout than any patch imo since literally anyone could buy the game, play the game, see that run, then say to themselves "Hey I could do that or better" and then go do it. No downpatching, no learning old interactions and mechanics, just playing what you played but more quickly. Invalidating out of date speedruns should be done, this happens with so many things in life, something gets outdated and updated, it gets replaced with the new. Leaderboards can become read only lists with dates and times and patch notes. If you're not playing the game anymore, why should your name be at the top of a leaderboard, or maybe more importantly, why does that matter to people? Just move on, or come back and play the game again and get your name back up there. Just play the game how it currently is and how 99.99% of everyone else is playing. Here's the other thing, devs don't give a shit about speedrunners, they give a shit about stuff in their game that is unbalanced, and it turns out, speedrunners use unbalanced stuff because it's fast. I'm not in the slightest sad that determination/RKR as well as some other busted interactions got fixed because it was pretty obvious that wasn't intentional, just like hoarfrost dps. Minor skips like Gideon's being fixed is definitely not aimed at speedunners, if a first time player skipped that fight, there goes all that investment the game made having you interact with him in the hold. It sounds like you're saying Elden Ring will be in the parrywalk speedrun phase of ds2 for its foreseeable future, that makes me sad, since ds2 became an incredibly tight and nearly glitchless speedrun on current patch as the devs fixed up the game before new parrywalk was found. Seeing ER in that more balanced state exictes me way more than seeing more of dist's 28 minute route or slight variations. As a spectator, skipping less and doing more fighting because you have less damage is really fun to watch. As a speedrunner, longer fights mean you have more time to use superior skill to get that time advantage, cleaner fights will save much more time than sloppy ones. I totally understand hardcore players downpatching just to get that time down down down, but I truly feel that downpatching doesn't really enhance the souls speedrun experience for the runner or the viewer.
@@ghnami1352 I think this really is dependent on the actual runners/the category, and how they are running things. As a long time viewer of speed-running, there's lots of reasons people down-patch, not just time/speed. Some parts of tech found in runs is simple not fun/grating for a runner. Could the zip glitch have anything to do with the animation skip for falls? When you slowly walk off of some ledges the falling animation doesn't activate and you just appear on the ground below.
So after a while the game stores the intended fall distance in memory until it builds up enough for the game to think you fell but instead of placing you straight down it places you at line of sight translating vertical momentum into horizontal momentum insted.
